D&D4 Three Core Books for June 2008 ?

4th Edition

On WotC website, in the 2008 previews, it seems the schedule for the three core books (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master Guide and Monster Manual) has been advanced and compiled altogether for june 2008 :

Link : What's to Come : 2008

If i remember correctly, only the PHB was scheduled for june, the DMG and MM were supposed to come later, like august and october.
So ? Did WotC decided to launch the three books at the same time, to push the 4th edition ?

They changed plans when fans and retailers asked them to have all of the books come out at once.

The original plan was PHB in May, MM in June, and DMG in July.

Like crosswiredmind said, fans and retailers balked and WotC blinked.

Maybe if we balk more they can change some of their plans ;)

Sure - if you get enough people to get behind something you can effect change in 4E.

Oh really ?

Like the cancellation of Dragon and Dungeon ?
Like the succubi becoming devils ?
Like the Abyss warping in the elemental maelstorm ?
Like the tieflings turning into a devilish civilization people, suddenly, out of nowhere ?
Like the drow becoming fallen eladrins ?
Like the bard being left aside from the core classes ?
Like the gnome being relegated as a monster while the tiefling becomes a core race ?
If yes, then cool...
If not, well...

No problem! I'm really an OK guy, despite what some people insinuate about me....

One thing I noticed so far in the product list is that they don't make any mention of any minis: either sets, or single iconics. The 2007 list had those mentioned.

Stuff like this, no. They're not moving. RWoT have a plan and nothing (not even a loud outcry from their customer base) is going to stop them. What that plan is, we'll find out in the fullness of time.

Yeah, that Star Sisterz brand is just the best isn't it. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Or maybe that's a fungus. I'd heard undead can develop problems like that....

I'm not impressed.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that people, when they buy a game, would like to play immediately -- not wait a few more months.

I've accused them of a big disconnect from gamers before. This just supports my theory (though the turnaround helps).

I feel like I'm watching Battlestar Galactica. WotC are the Cylons. Old grognards (like me) are the human fleet.

Except the Cylons have good PR, intelligence, and judgement -- and, in the end, the human fleet will win.

?!?What do you mean?!? I don't have to buy the game. I don't have to play the game. I don't have to recognize 4E as D&D. I call that a win.

Sorry, you'll just be a lone survivor. There will probably be a few others. Most of the fleet will indeed fall prey to Hasbro -- errr, I mean the Imperious Leader :P

I don't care a carrot when the 4th edition is in the market, WotC is not getting a dime from me with the three core rulebooks.

Meh. Those things matter not to me.

Those things are flavor, which are the least important in a core book and the most likely to change.

I'll be playing in Varisia anyway so what's it matter at all? ;)

It just makes it that much easier to convert it to Hero System. : )

I get that same feeling! Only I'm the guy pissed off that they made Starbuck a woman!

I HATE reimagining. Redoing special effects and making minor changes (like the Star Wars trilogy) is ok, but you can't tromp on the sacred cows. Succubi are demons, and Han shot first.

If you look on Amazon you will see there are three sets coming out this year. One in April - dungoens of Dread; One in July - Against the Giants another Huge set; and One in November and I forget the name of this one.

The two Iconics are a Gargantuan Orcus in March and a Gargantuan Draolich (I forget when but I think August).

Amazon has had the Orcus thing for quite awhile, and the Dracolich ad for at least a month. I wasn't aware of the sets being there.

If the first set is in April, then they might be putting up the first previews soon. Not sure if I'll continue with the mini's though, since they'll be geared more towards 4E.

Well, let's look at the pattern so far ...

Enough people apparently complained about the lack of half-orcs and so they will release them on the DDI.

Enough people complained about their plans for Eberron so they backed off.

Enough people complained about the book release plan and so they changed it.

It seems that they are capable of reacting to the fans so it is not beyond the realm of possibility to organize enough of a campaign to get them to make a change.

I would suggest to all of the folks on this board that want to see something in 4E change to write to Wizards. If enough people contact them then they may actually move on an issue.

You can have mine for $40. Seriously, I don't need it anymore and it's in pristine condition.

I'm sorry, but no amount of fan outcries will stop 4E from coming.

That is true. I guess I was thinking of additional content being added or Greyhawk being restored. things like that.

But I would bet you that if enough people wrote in saying that they will not buy 4E they would drop it. Of course that would need to be a HUGE number of people.

Some, maybe. I don't forsee Greyhawk being restored. I can see things like dragonlance or black sun or ravenloft or even a new planescape, but with the new cosmology coming back. But not Greyhawk.

I don't see that. They're already to heavily invested for 4E not to come out. They've had roughly half their normal release schedule since te announcement and I imagine that they took some of the biggest hits as far as decreased sales as well. At this point, they need a major release to make them lots of money. 4E is that product, nothing else will even come close.
