4th Edition

101 to 150 of 213 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | next > last >>

In 4e when a paladin is in your party you need not fear death anymore !
When the paladin attacks all the damage he does to a creature knocks floating little hearts out of creatures which heal you if you touch them, the hearts last for 1d4 melee rounds x10+the paladins cha mod. If you do die you appear back where you started as a ghost and must run to where your body is, once there you do self resurrection which is a ability all 1st level characters get(unlimited uses per day) and then you must heal, just being near a paladin gives you healing 4d12+cha+paladin level+religion Rank Mod+excess feats, magic items and or holy symbols.

4e is gonna be great!

To maximize profit on the sale of the 4e core books, WotC is utilizing a printer press which exploits special needs children in order to keep cots low.

Is that for the ink or the paper?

Yes.

Does that mean that the children they're exploiting to make the plastic minis have to pull quadruple shifts (the double shifts for the minis and the new double shifts for the ink press or something) ;-)

Actually I heard they get LARP people to pose for the minis and then a south american witch doctor shrinks them into minis. I heard it was like making shruken heads but to the whole person.

I also heard that is why the new line of minis are made out of "jerky" so that you can "inflict real wounds" by using them as snacks during the game. This way you need to buy minis at twice the normal rate!

Nah, those ones who are done with the ink are led into a chamber where they're converted into an oily residue that is rapidly converted into a form of plastic for the minis to be sculpted from via injection mold so the next batch of inkers can paint them.

"Keep painting Billy! If you get tired they make you into the minis."

"Hey you! Get him he isn't working fast enough!"
"Oh no!"

*New Billy minis!* (available in 2008)

The next D&D Minis set is called "Anatomy" for a reason!

BBEG Villains will have a special magical power called 'take all the PCs prisoner and lock them in a cell with all their equipment piled up outside and one really dumb gaoler on guard'. The BBEG will not need to roll any dice to use this power- being a special magical transport effect, it will automatically succeed- but unless the BBEG is really powerful there will be a limit on the number of times that they can use this power in any one game.
BBEG Villains will also have special magical powers to be called 'escape from death' and 'escape from death (yet again)'. These powers will also be available using special feats, if you are a PC Tiefling or Warlock, but the player will have to laugh 'mwuahaha' to activate them.

If that is true I will have to switch to 4E.

You can't. I know for fact* that the armpit grease spell is for the fishwife in MM1 but it will have rules on how to play one as a PC.

*By fact I mean complete BS I made 20 sec before posting.

I heard that in 4e, you'll have to actually cast REAL magic spells, there will of course be nominal fees for the uncredited classes that teach magic.

Can I... umm.. look at your answers during the test?

There will be no extra books beyond the core rules. Instead, you have to buy boosters. Boosters have cards with feats, spells, classes, manoeuvres, and all that on them, as well as plastic minis to represent those things. In order to use those rules, you MUST have a corresponding card and miniature.

And the stuff from the boosters will be a lot more powerful than the core stuff, and a lot of favourites will be there: Drow (playable, more powerful than before, no LA), gnomes, druids (more powerful than before, but the forms you can take are limited by what monsters you have)

I hear they're using crack cocaine in the ink and dusting the pages so that once you open one book, you're hooked and have to keep buying them until you die...

I heard in 4E that they are blurring the line between action figures and miniatures.
There will be an "elite" set of miniatures that are fully posable!!!
(And only $15 per mini!!!!)

In 4E all of your core books will burst into flame after 20 uses (but not if you call a hotline to renew your core book access *2.99 per minute*).

WOTC will be releasing further core books one page at a time, every page released will have it's own hardcover front and back and new (recycled) exclusive art!

Also, a new voice chip in every miniature calls you a retarded grognard if you don't immediately buy it as soon as you see it in the blister pack! New technology rocks, yet the game will remain the same!

D&D Miniature line is introducing dungeon booster Chambers set, A random set of rooms from The upcoming module Keep on the Bord...Shadowfell a 178 room set. Dude, that sounds too real...don't even say that.

With the digital initiative, should a GM still find themselves without players, the WOTC Customer Fullfillment will provide live players to go through your adventures.

This will be seperate from other pricing options, as it will be considered a 'premium service.' Certain restrictions will apply, i.e. you must run a quality game and adhere to only rule books and products that have been licensed to you. The Add-A-Player Support team reserves the right to decline playing if your dungeon sucks, though of course you will not be charged after that point.

Details are still pending, as pricing is under review. Look for more details soon on this exciting 'Rent-A-Friend' digital initiative!

Wow, that's cool. Will it also have the option of obtaining a DM?

DMs will be vaccum sealed in huge sized booster packs. Their rarity will be based on skill.

"My mom just bought me all the books" - Common
"I've been running games for two whole months." - Uncommon
"I played Saga, how different can this be?" - Rare
"I was a playtester, but can't tell you about it" - Very Rare
"Hi, I'm Rich Baker, I'm here to destroy your races' back history, and make all these changes." Ultra Rare
"Hi, I'm <Hasbro exec> I'm here to make your game unrecognizable, destroy your secret stash of Avalon Hill stuff, and break your Boba Fett figure. What do you mean Dungeon Master? You know that's our IP, right?" - Chase figure.

:-)

Aberzombie wrote:

Yes, but it's an AI. Quite a good one too.

We here at WOTC are not prepared to discuss the details as of this time, but it's been shrouded under the secret code name "DUNGEONWORLD OF DRAGONCRAFT." You'll be excited to hear a seperate development team is working on your personal electronic DungeonMaster future upgrade, project code name "EBBEORQUEST."

You can expect this AI GM to utilize all the well playtested rules that you've come accustomed to from our brand name line. In fact, 4th Edition was designed to do just this- and that's what really makes it the awesome cool DnD experience you've always dreamed about. We know it will blow you away and change everything you've ever thought about the world's most popular role-playing game.

EDIT: Matthew's reply was pretty good too. lol

Every spell and magic item will be available only on a collectible card available only in random booster packs. When each card is unpacked, a special number is revealed in a trademarked 'disappearing ink' that fades within three days. This number must be scanned in and registered on the WotC website to validate the card, and these cards may not be transferred between owners. (Attempting to write down the number and enter it manually will not qualify, as the numbers have certain characteristics that cannot be duplicated to prevent forgery.)

Due to the extra-special new copyright/trademarking system 'for your protection!' anyone attempting to cast a spell or use a magic item without the requisite *registered* card will be guilty of copyright infringement and these items / spells will not be valid for use in any registered game or at any convention game, per the D&D use license that will be strictly enforced at gaming conventions, to ensure your quality of play and that unscupulous players do not attempt to 'steal' access to the spells and items that you have earned through your hard work and diligence!

Some cards will be rarer (i.e. better and more expensive) than others. 'Common' cards will include spells like Flare and Animate Rope and items like Quaal's Feather Token (Fan) and Silversheen. Spells like Color Spray and Scorching Ray will be highly sought after 'extra rares,' as will be items like Boots of Striding and Springing and Heward's Handy Haversack, but we know that *your character is worth it!*

Anyone found at a convention using forged or invalid items or spells (or the ultra-rare and coveted 'Prestige Class' and 'Prestige Race' options, only available to preferred customers) will be seized and put to work in the salt mines under the WotC corporate castle, per terms of the licensing terms-of-use contract which they implicitly agreed to upon tearing open their first booster pack, or registering for any convention where D&D games are played.

Registed preferred users may be bar-coded for their own convenience. Some restrictions may apply. Not valid in Puerto Rico, Canada or any country that forbids slavery. See package for further restrictions.

Magic items in 4E are going to be "bind on acquire" or "bind on equip" to prevent you from giving them to lower level characters or other members of your party and thus ruining the game economy.

Hey everybody, Ron here, executive for Hasbro inc. Just wanted everyone to know that I'm glad to see all the excitement welling up around 4E and hope that soon we will be able to cycle all this energy into our soul engine to power the floating fortress that is Hasbro HQ. And then the reign of terror will begin...

That's "Kool"

Every hard c will be replaced by k's. First Chapter of the book: Kreate a Kharakter

GP and so on will now be GK - Gold Koins

You have to gain level 20 in at least two klasses before you kan play the last two klasses - only then will they be unlokked in your DI akkount.

In order to play the last two races, you'll have to earn 1000 platinum koins and find three very specifik magik items.

All manoeuvres will rekuire skill chekks in addition to attakk rolls.

The environment will be interaktive in unike ways.

When an enemy is staggered, you kan use a finishing move on him, killing him in ways that will make this game unsuitable for small children or adolescents.

The DM has to shout stuff like "FINISH HIM", "FATALATIY" and so on in a kool, dark voice.

That sounds pretty fun actually. I think I can start integrating the last part into my 3E game right now. "Finish Him!"- I kould do that in kool dark voice. And I can play the music in the background and have someone yell out "MORTAL COMBAT" just before they roll for initiative.

If I got that techno track they kept playing in the movie for every fight, I wouldn't survive the init rolls. My table's full of metalheads. I'm one myself, so I'd bare my neck and give them a sharp sword if I was ever possessed to switch to techno as game music. ;-)

But there we have it:

4e is techno
3e is the Metal!

And we all know who knows more about hell...

4e edition combat will be as simple as the say. Flip a coin. Heads, you win the combat and the enemy dies. Tails, you win the combat and the enemy dies but you lose 20% of your hp.

4E will be as cool, fun and awesome as they say. It will also be more heavily focused on roleplaying and fun then combat and spells.

This is already here for 3.5 - see Goodman Games' Wicked Fantasy Factory adventures. Heroes in WFF adventures have Finishing Moves; certain monsters (like kobolds) are Mooks, and each character gets Cleave and Mighty Cleave when fighting them; and each WFF adventure has one piece of Phat Lewt, a treasure item worth as much as all the rest of the adventure's treasure combined.

Oh, and they recommend the following:

Wicked Fantasy Factory wrote:
How do you know when to use your finishing move? In a WFF adventure, the GM should let you know when an enemy is nearing finishing move range. He should say, “This guy’s looking pretty woozy!” or “You could probably bring the pain to this guy!” or maybe “Finish him!”

Take it as you will.

ArchLich wrote:

This is actually true and the plane itself will be called "Oeberrun". The first iconic will be a spellfire wielding warforged cleric of Pelor.

More rumors:

4E was beta tested on the Atari 2600.

Halflings were going to be changed to "Munchkins", but due to copyright issues and feedback from non-power gamers, the race was changed back to Halfling.

Liches will be a PC race.

All combat encounters will be resolved with a single roll of a d20.

It won't be necessary to pay for the online content to play the game.

Everything about 4E is cool.
