Liberty's Edge

you've been telling me you were a genius since you were seventeen,
and all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean.
But those weekends up at college didn't turn out like you planned,
The things that pass for knowledge I can't understand.

Steely Dan - Reelin' in the Years (is that the name?)

Liberty's Edge

ayyup.

How about this one:

She pulled off her fingers til she left only three.
She screwed off her right leg right over the knee.
She pulled off her false wig, her bald head I behold.
Oh good God Almighty, only nineteen years old?

She pulled out her eyebrow, which was black and sublime.
She pulled out her false teeth, which was only nine.
She pulled out her glass eye, on the carpet it rolled.
Oh, bad luck and damnation to your nineteen years old!

Paizo Employee Director of Sales

Kaz... No idea.

Here's one that should be a gimme:

(At least, I'm pretty sure it will be for R-type)

And I looked around at all the eyes on the ground/
As the TV entertained itself/

‘Cause there’s no comfort in the waiting room/
Just nervous faces bracing for bad news/
And then the nurse comes ‘round and everyone lifts their heads...

Liberty's Edge

Good morning sunshine awake when the sun hits the sky.
Look up, the sounds that surround the day that you die.
She waits for you inside a hole in the ground,
And there's one way, thinking you might get the upper hand.
Dear Newo Ikkin how's Apollo been treating you?
Has he been a good boy since the day I left?
Give him my love and a sweet kiss for his head,
Because I won't be coming home--when you get this, I'll be dead.
Norris and Larry.
Gloria to nowhere.
Son, I think you better take my hand.
Pray we'll make this one out alone.
Captain, we've lost all systems control.
Son, I'll see you in my sleep.
Now is it all you've shared with them that makes us paranoid?
Is it the truth that one day you might be someone you're not?
Is it all you've shared with them that makes us paranoid?
Is it the dream that makes us real?
I'll miss you and wait for you out here.

Liberty's Edge

Same vocalist, different band:

There's a light in the shed that will help you find your way.
But through this dark, you deserve by bleeding thrugh that machine.
Well, little did you once know,
In the reach for the telephone,
In the dark we have watched as from near beyond the grave.
To bear the mark of his work all the Watchmen of our way.
And that which we feel untrue,
If it's me then it isn't you,
Lay down, relax, come on, now,
What you thought once was yours is ours now.

Stay with me to guide this dream,
Before they bury me.
I've been waiting up all night for you.
In a nightmare that was made for me.

Love the Hayseed Dixie. Some of those songs, "Have a Drink on Me", work better as a country/bluegrass song. You heard their KISS tribute? "Lets put the X in Sex" takes on a whole new meaning.

how about:

Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile....

Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,

I haven't heard the KISS one, but the Metallica covers slay me (figuratively).

Oh, as no one has it yet, my lyrics from above are:

Spoiler:
Grim Faeries - Faerie Raide. I wanted to post "Water Shadows," but thought it'd be far too obscure.

I don't know if it's cool or sad but while I didn't know a single song so far (except for the starter which I'm guessing is "This Charming Man" by The Smiths) 70's sitcom themes apparently come to me:

Spoiler:
Theme from WKRP in Cincinnati

How about this one:

Insanity, the normal state
The left hand the hammer, the right the stake
Driven so deep into the heart
It's killing love, it's killing faith
It's killing 'cause it's from the heart

- Chris Shadowens

Wow, there's a tune I haven't heard in ages. Black Lodge is on my playlist, a few Persistence of time songs, Bring the Noise, but that's about it.

Attempt #2:
It is a special one; it's never seen the sun;
it only comes out when the moon is on the run,
and all the stars are gleaming.

It's a bit of an acquired taste, I guess... Steely Dan's one of those bands I like enough to turn up the radio when they come on, but, at the same time, I don't have any of their albums. I often find their music a bit twee, but the lyrics are always clever enough to warrant a listen.

Well, they are heavily jazz influenced, so if jazz is not your cup of tea... Which always gives me a problem in these games, since most of what I listen to doesn't have lyrics. OK, try this:

"Sun is shining in the sky
There's not a cloud in sight
It's stopped raining
Everybody's in the play
And don't you know, it's a beautiful new day."

This was just in a Doctor Who episode, of all places. Not going to ruin it though. Can you tell I like background noise? Must...not...be...alone...with...madness...

Was it? Good grief, is nothing sacred?

Really? I don't recognize it and as I've gotten through series 3 I've deleted them from the DVR (still have Torchwood to watch, though) so I can't go back and skim. Which episode? Trying to think of recent eps with noticeable music...Blink? ...Gridlock?

Love and Monsters. Don't work to hard tracking it down, it was pretty awful.

Isn't that "Spanish Harlem"? That's a nice little song. No idea who sings it, though.

This is one of my dad's faves - it's an ELO song. Can't for the life of me remember the title, though.

Couldn't remember that one by title so I looked it up...yea, that wasn't one of the better episodes in the series. Of course, who am I to judge when it comes to a loving an animated slab of concrete? ;)

Ben E. King. I want to track down the Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass version.

It is indeed! Nicely done. I prefer the "The Mamas & the Papas" version myself.

Google for "Herb Alpert" Tijuana brass volume 2.

I looked it up, and that's the version I know as well. I guess I should check out Herb Alpert as well.

Does anyone know this mid-1960s classic?

Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying

hey- how about this one?

Could you condemn a man
If your faith he doesn't hold?
Say the colour of his skin
Is the colour of his soul?
Or could you say if men
For king and country all must die?

Why doesnt Serj redo this one today?
PS: Shiny, love the new Serj one you posted on the other thread.

Oh yeah, keep posting the Anthrax lyrics! Those guys are awesome, though Im not down with their re-formation at the cost of John Bush and Rob Caggiano.

The lyrics must be Yardbirds' "Better man than I". That's a pretty decent song. I've heard a couple of cover versions as well, but greatly prefer the original.

Huh? What's that about a 'new' Anthrax? Please tell me they're not bringing tan freak Joey Belladonna back...

Heres an interview with Bush (now back with Armored Saint...pretty cool!) New rumors were; Corey from Slipknot (now squashed) and Phil from Pantera (still possible??) coming in with Scotty, Frankie, and Charlie and some other dude on geetar.

If you can find video of the announcement of the reformation, post it. It looked like six different kinds of f'd up. Nobody really wanted to be there. friggin $$$. They reformed with the classic 'Among the Living' lineup and went out for a year or so playing only StD, AtL, SoE, PoT tunes...saw some footage on youtube and its cool and everything, but I LOVED the Bush years with the band. Cant even think of what it would be like with Anselmo's shredded voice on those tunes...

Spoiler:
Oh, MacArthur Park is a legit song?!?!? I guess Im not up on 'musical' numbers. It looks like Richard "Dumbledore" Harris did the first version, but I still love Brak croaking out that crazy version he did

Grand Lodge

AS much as I like Phil's voice, it wouldn't be the same. It could be a cool band, though - but they need new material. Otherwise, it would be like Black Sab's Live Evil album - it just does not work with Dio singing "War Pigs" or "Iron Man", no matter how great his voice is.

And, believe it or not, it is actually a real song. Having said that, it just cries out for the kind of treatment you mentioned. Perhaps there is a Leonard Nimoy version out there somewhere? It would go great with "The ballad of Bilbo Baggins"...

I'm apparently in the minority here but I prefer the early Belladonna era, maybe because I refuse to let the old metal die. And no disrespect to John Bush (or his fans) but that video Drunken Nomad posted had me thinking more "My Name is Earl" than an ejected thrash metal frontman. Maybe it was the beard...and no, I don't have anything against beards. :)

Yep. Just saw My Clone Sleeps Alone was its own song. Thanks, Greg.

I play in a band.
We're the best in the land.
We're big in both Chelsea and France.
I play one mean guitar, then score at the bar.
There's a line of chicks waitin' for their chance.
So come on now, honey, I'll make you feel pretty.
These other gals mean nothin' to me.
So let's finish these drinks and be gone for the night,

Another hint - although known for his lyrics, his vocal skills are, to put it charitably, very limited. He's still touring and recording, and his last album was actually pretty good.

First I thought it was Grand Funk Railroad's "We're an American band", but that ain't it. Then I thought it was a KISS tune (they have a number of tracks on this theme), but no. And it's too direct to be AC/DC, who prefer to work with lame metaphors ("let me cut your cake with my knife", anyone?). So now I'm just confused. It it something by Gang Green? This would be pretty typical of them.

Donna Summer did the disco era cover. Don't forget Richard Harris did a version, too. God knows who else? Shatner maybe?

Aubrey, I don't care for metal myself. I prefer the 80s.

Am I the happy loss?
Will I still recoil
when the skin is lost?
Am I the worthy cross?
Will I still be soiled
when the dirt is off?

That rhythm fits with Walk This Way by Aerosmith, but I have no idea.

It fits well with "Achy Breaky Heart", too, but I'm quite sure it's not that either. Did Billy Ray Cyrus recycle his noisome hit with a new set of lyrics? Hmmm....

I know that one... "One thing leads to another", right? Finally all my hours I spent listening to the radio as I grew up pays off!

Unfortunately, I have no idea who sang it - which, for me, is true for most 80s bands.
