Post anything asking for assistance or a helpful evaluation and you can prepare to be eviscerated by anyone who wishes to feel powerful over there. Every single poster over there is the be-all-end-all expert on whatever they decide to spout and they tend to gang up on anyone pointing out that they are acting rudely by turning it around on that person with debate-team tactics and rudimentary psychological BS. I had a run-in while asking for assistance in building a spell-list for a certain concept I had and was beaten for 30+ post about how I was too lazy to make my own list, how dumb I must be for not being able to create a list and, once I revealed that I had a list that I didn't want to post so as not to color someone's opinion of what spells should be on said characters list, was called a liar. I wuv Paizo Golem! It's my bestest friend! :D

Seriously, I must say that this is the most grown-up gaming forum I've encountered to date. I too have an account with Gleemax/WotC/DDI/junior kindergarten, but have never felt enough need for abuse to post there.

These forums are the best resource for getting serious advice about the various products that Paizo crafts, and the members (usually) take the time to think before they type. Even the flames here are spellchecked. ;)

There is also the added bonus of actually being able to ask questions and get answers from the writers and staff of Dungeon/Dragon/Pathfinder. I know that WotC staff sometimes lurk or post on other boards (hello to Shoe and Lurkinglidda), but the responsiveness here is much better.

Okay, enough of this love-in. Back to plotting more horrible ways to traumatise my PC's with green worms!

Aw, the WotC boards aren't that bad...just go there after a bad day, find a thread called "How to stat [insert current movie bad***]?", "What alignment is this character?" or "My DM won't let me play a [insert latest splatbook cheese]!" and inform all the bickering dimwits how and why they need to stop typing at their computers and live their lives.

Well, it's not for everyone. I do recommend giantitp.com/forums for paizo-level coolness.

Sometimes that's just the only way to keep a forum under control.

The tone at the Giantitp forums is a little bit different than the paizo forums, but yeah - the communities are leaps ahead of the WoTC forums.

Yeah, me too. Paizo is the only place that would take in an impulsive, snarky, and amoral bastard like myself. I mean, if I went anywhere else, I'd be shunned, man. I'm like the entire world's creepy cousin who hangs around comic shops after dark. We all know guys like that.

Well, no, I also like the interaction of the Paizo team (in stark contrast to the corporate silence of WotC), the high nice-person-to-meanie ratio (Sebastian excluded, of course), and the razor-sharp banter between the various Dungeon & Dragon writers. It's so witty it makes my eyes bleed. :)

But not legally speaking. Neither federal nor any state law recognizes the transient natural of soul-material as a result of online interaction, regardless of the level of sanity and intelligence, or any soul-loss resulting thereof, of the online participants.

Finally checked the message board there. I've been debating people over there about a free online virtual gametable. Appearantly free virtual game table would be a bad idea, poor poeple should not play D&D (they have better things to do), and if I want a free virtual game table I should make my own.

Anyway there pretty lame at debating. They lack the snarky charm and sarcasm I love so much here at Paizo.

I love you guys!!!

P>S< I'm in a punchy mood so I will probably go back an show WotC message boards, what snarky is all about.

Emphasis mine.

But Sebastian is mean AND articulate. And its funny to read his posts.

At least he doesn't just tell you that you suxxor and not back it up.

Here on Paizo with Sebastian you get a nice little paragraph or mini essay expounding on the flaws inherent in both yourself and your post. ;-)

Seriously thought, its been a while since I left the WotC boards, but isn't it telling that they don't allow you to discuss the novels? Apparently it was because too many trolls picked apart every page of the novels and were exeptionally rude in personal attacks on the authors, etc.

Just do not encourage any of the morons on the WoTC message boards to visit or post on this website. I can do without their drivel here. Paizo's message board is far more user friendly, which is why I stick arround. I've been there trying to figure out what is up with 4th edition D&D. I'm not sure they really look at them. I Think people feel more free to be honest here. The WotC staff do not seem to post on those boards. I got thank the Paizo staff for keeping in touch and actually answer questions and voice there opinions on there messageboards.

Yeah, I just like this place more. I mean, I haven't posted on the Wizards boards in like, six months. Maybe it's because the staff here actually acknowledge that the posters are human...living...sentient beings and not just some program. That and it always boils to the same tedious argument on the Planes board; law/chaos or good/evil?

Hilarity. I just created a login a couple of days ago for the exact same purpose. I wonder how many others are waiting to pounce on whatever 3.5 compatible stuff they put out prior to the launch of 4.0 with a plan of riding off into the sunset with it when the big switch occurs?

That pretty much sums it up.

I haven't visited the WoTC boards for years, but I blame them for the belief that there needs to be a 4th Edition, and that Grappling is clunky, etc...

In short, everything there is an argument. You can't have a discussion, since a discussion can actually have more than one person as "right."

Bad memories. Bad memories.

I remember being told that a weapon can't have Flaming and Frost on it, because it "didn't make sense," and any DM who allowed it was an idiot.

Really open minded there...

Has anybody else noticed WotC's de-emphisis of "it's your game" and my old chestnut of "all you need is dice, rules, stationary and friends"? Maybe that kind if self reliance is bad for selling more books?

If the hidebound attitude that seems to pervade the WotC messageboards is reflective of the feedback the design staff gets, then I despair.
Rules Lawyers have their place, of course, but I needn't tell you that D&D is about making shared memories with friends while cocreating a great story too.

Thank god we have this place at least to remember that.

Kinda plays into what I just talked about;

"D&D?!? Then you'll need at least two hundred dollars worth of books and minis, a hundred dollar subscription to the virtual table for each player (making the minis redundant) and a kidney to offer to Wizards".
That said- knowing the calibre of folks on that messageboards, I expect the posters to be upper middle-class adolesents who've never done and honest day's work and simply don't know the value of a buck.

Paizo's boards are the only ones I can still get to at work, which to me suggests something about their worth in comparison to certain others. There are always well-reasoned discussions here and the posters are actually open to the idea that they may learn something. Certainly a novel situation in this day and age.

Oh, and not enough can be said about the responsiveness and helpfulness of the Paizo staff. Despite a very busy work schedule, they always find time to read and respond to the boards. Also, there is no company that comes close to the awesome customer service that Paizo provides.

firbolg wrote:

The value of a buck is directly proportional to the skill of the taxidermist. ;)

haven't been on the Wizard forums I think since the last Chainmail stuff was coming out, more or less just don't post there, besides I get my D&D/gaming fix here for the most part.

other then I'm not a big fan of the forum formats (thou it's not as bad as it was when I first started posting) here, still all around good forum.
