Iggwilv and the Witch Class?

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

James Jacobs,

First, thanks again for all the great Demonomicon Articles and everything else for that matter! If their quality is any indicator I'm going to let my subscriptions continue into the online magazine versions (even though I desperately want print magazines...)

I've tried to make reliable versions of Iggwilv in the past for our campaigns based on all the sources I could find. Since Iggwilve was called a witch in several sources, witches in literature & D&D have summon spirits and have special relationships with them, and the original demonomicon had both magic-user & cleric spells - I made Iggwilv's primary class the WITCH. One of the earliest versions I made of her was based on the first edition witch from an old Dragon Magazine article that had its own spell list with magic-user & cleric spells. The highest level was the Queen of Witches who had powers that made sense for Iggwilv, like a greatly extended life-span.

Several versions of the open d20 witch have their own spell lists with both wizard & cleric spells and similar powers to the old first edition witch. Iggwilv's most complete history to date was in the "Return of the Eight" module in which she was specifically calle "The Witch of Perrenland".

So, is there any chance you guys will be making a finally revealed and much anticipated Iggwilv a D&D 3.5 Edition WITCH? It would be fantastic to have a 3.5 version of the Witch article presented with Iggwilv as the Queen of Witches!

I think of a lot of people this may be one of the most anticipated NPCs ever, so I think I can say we hope you guys do it justice. I'm afraid just another high-powered Wizard would be a disappointment.

Here's to hope. Looking forward to hearing some comments from officials and fans.

Thanks,
James

As a matter of fact... Iggwilv does indeed get a stat block, but it'll be appearing over in Dungeon #149. She doesn't have any witch levels, though... it's pretty well established in Greyhawk lore that she's a wizard, so that's what she is in her stat block. A wizard 26/archmage 4, in fact. The name "Witch-Queen" is more of a title than anyting else, really.

In any case, she's pretty deadly. Anyone able to cast a couple limited wishes as quickened spell-like abilities or able to cast a spell that forces a CR 22 aspect of Graz'zt to manifest before her to do her bidding for an hour is hardly what I'd call a disapointment. :-)
