Today is Free RPG Day!

Find a local store near you: http://www.freerpgday.com/

Also, don't forget to Boycott all WotC products!

I'm pretty frustrated right now. I drove to 3 FLGS today in hopes of scoring one. Two had specifically told me they would have them and did not. One said he had missed the cutoff by 2 days and was told he couldn't get anything. The other said, "What free gaming day?". After spending 2 hours and over 40 miles of driving I am extremely cranky.
I really didn't want just the pdf and I also don't want to pay for something I thought I was getting for free but have already paid for with gas.[/rant]

Looking on that link I see that the stores who promised me they would have the stuff aren't on the list. I hate being misled. I could have driven to another one, but don't have the time now and it is 35 miles away. :(

It sucks this isn't taking place in Canada...

Next year...

Magnus the magnificent of these boards is my new pseudo-hero as he went out of his way to pick me up a copy of D0. Yay him!

Alas, looks like I'll have to buy D0 like everyone else. There is no store even within several hours of me.

:(

Ah well, at least I know I'm buying quality.

Shadow Lodge

I had to drive about 25 miles accross houston on a tollroad to get mine!!! He had recieved only about 10 of each free product so we were limited to 1 free product per person. I wish I brought the family now!

I got the Paizo module though, which is what I went for! Wish I could have gotten a few others I went for as well.

And does that boycott involve products such as Expidition to castle Greyhawk, or can we give that one a free pass because it is written buy some of the Paizo greats!?

Scarab Sages

I drove 52 miles to the closest store on the list to my place. They had everything laid out on a table. I had never been to the store before. The workers were friendly and they had a Hero Clix and Warmachine tournies going on. (I miss those days...)
I picked up Hollow's Last Hope, Temple of Blood (Goodman Games), and Goblin Lake (Tunnels & Trolls / Buffalo Games) modules. He was limiting it to 3 a person. He said I could call tomorrow and see if there was anything left. I told him how far I had driven and I got the Hero Lab CD out of him. (I'm sure it's not Mac compatible but I'll dust off the PC to try it out.) [The intro videos worked but the rest will have to go on the PC...]
I'm glad I was able to pick up these items.

Thanks to the gang who put on the Free RPG day.

I got mine this morning! The guy at the store (the manager) said that the upper management had only given him two days' notice about the event and thus he was unable to set up gaming tables or schedule any games for the day. He also only had 3 copies of D0 on hand (and a lot of assorted other swag). Thankfully, I was the first one through the door. :D

I spent the morning looking it over. It's definitely high quality stuff. Having never run a module before, I suppose I might as well start with this one!

Scarab Sages

I was bummed they had no Game Mastery products. I was hoping to pick up another deck or two.

Liberty's Edge

As Swiper would say, "Oh, man!" I knew I should have stayed in Anchorage an extra day.

Damn. For one thing, I forgot today was the day. For another thing, there wasn't anywhere near me anyways.

Oh well. I'm not downloading it, cuz I don't like PDFs. I guess I'll just miss out on this one.

And Monster Manual V! Come on! I'll probably be one of like 10 people to buy it anyways. Oh, and Elder Evils. Otherwise, I do believe I'm done with Wizards for the year.

(Oh dear, I'm a bad boycotter...)

you didn't miss much. My nearest gaming shop is one hour away, they were limiting to one product per person, and the manager said paizo's giveaway (he only had three copies) was the first to go.

Regrettably, no nearby shops were participating for me, either. Still, let's hope it catches on, and is bigger next year. I'd be interested in finding out how I could help to encourage local shops to participate, if anyone could enlighten me.

Just tell them it exists and point them to freerpgday.com.

Why boycott WotC? Is it because they were not a sponsor of the event? If so, they wanted to, but we didn't give them enough time to create something for the event.

I am really sorry you went through this. Can you send me details about the stores you went to and visited so I can tally up the good and bad stores for the event? aldo@impressionsadv.net

I'm glad it worked out for you! I hope we can make it bigger for next year plus have more stores participating so folks do not have to drive as far.

I can! I would say that the biggest push to get stores to sign up was consumers calling and emailing us directly. Every consumer suggestion that came to us got a phone call and/or email from me telling them about the event in detail and letting them know there was a consumer interested.

Let me know for next year!

I must admit that my local place was out before noon of the free product (and claimed that they only had a few items. Less than 10).

So Wingnut much as I'd like to boycott Hasbro they do D&D Day much better. I often get at least a free mini or a poster.
