Demogorgon V.S. Grazzt V.S. Orcus

3.5/d20/OGL

Their obviously rivals but if all three went to all out war, pulled all the stops and just fought to the death who would win? My money is on Grazzt.

Orcus doesn't do much for me he seems a little stupid giving up godhood because he didnn't like the name Tenebrous well freakin change it then that was a stupid move... or better yet why not at least wait until after deposing your rivals to quit being a god. I'm sure he could have been way stronger then.

Demogorgon is cool, the pic of him in BoVD has got to be humiliating he looked purty gay to me. What did he try anfd horn in on Yeenoghu he looked downright Gnollish. And another thing in freakin Bastion of broken souls he's trying to kill himself. he just does not impress me.

Grazzt on the other hand is awesome his pic in the back of FC1 with Iggwilv was awesome looking (if not a bit drowish). plus he controls more layers than anyone else in the Abyss.

I give it to the new Prince of Demons Grazzt.

Im going to say Orcus would win even tho I like Grazzt better. Unlimted army of undead is hard to beat. The thing is Asmodeus would wait until two of the three are dead and the third wounded and weak and kill him, so he would be the winner.

While the three stoogies are going about destroying each other little Ms. Queen of the Suucubi (with a little help from a band of prime material adventurers) is taking the throne for herself, all hail the new Queen of Demons!!!

hmm tuff fight; no clear winner in my mind.

I dunno, I didn't really get a "happy" or "carefree" vibe from any of the illustrations in the BoVD. Are you sure we have the same book? And, I mean, who are we to begrudge a two-headed baboon/tentacle-armed/bird-legged demon lord his occasional jaunty good humor? Can't be death metal and savage freaks all the time. Or, maybe it was because of his love of death metal and savage freaks that he was in such a sunny mood. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I get that but He looked more like a hyena then a baboon in that pic. it didn't look half as cool as the pic in FC1... and his tentacles were droopy in BoVD. In FC1 they're powerful and look wicked but not so in BoVD.

wait wait wait Malcanthet no way the way FC1 made it sound she had trouble holding on to Queen of the succubi. though maybe when Grazzt vanquishes his foes he may make her his queen still making her Queen of Demons.

The hyena-headed illustration of Demogorgon from the BoVD never happened. If it DID... it was propaganda from Orcus or Graz'zt.

(In fact, the illustration in BoVD WAS an error... Demogorgon's had baboon heads since before 1st Edition, and he has them again.)

As for who would win in a 3-way fight? Demogorgon. Unless those other chumps had some crafty PCs organizing things for them! :-)

Maybe gaining control of the throne, but now that she's there, the other claimants to the title have pretty much been slapped down. One's in jail, one's worse than dead, and one's too depressed to try to do anything about it.

Malcanthet wins, in other words.

So is there a story with that (that you're aware of)? A simple error, someone wanted to change the look, or what?

Is Shime-Amorae the one who's in jail, or the one who's worse than dead? Or does she count as both?

Also... which one's depressed?

And... is Red Shroud in the contending as a potential up and comer? The last time I saw stats for her (in the adventure path,) she had a pretty impressive challenge rating. Her spell resistance sucks, though. Wasn't there some kind of thing about SR being 11+ the challenge rating, or hit-dice, or something to keep it relevent?

And... I'ma stop now, else I might be thread-jacking.

Yea i don't quite remember which one is in the wells of darkness and sorry i messed up on the before gaining throne while in possession of it thing i just remembered the book going on about her Malcanthets rivals.

Can I just toss my two in coppers here? No? Too Bad.

I just want to say I LIKE the picture of Demogorgon in Vile Darkness. Or at least I don't see why it bothered people so much.

This guy (or rather these guys) made Retrievers. They made the first Death Knights (even though Goat-Boy is more closely associated with undead). They spawned that real ugly mother at the bottom of The Porhyry House of Horror from a broken tooth! And they got to bed TWO Queens of the Succubi (a feat made more impressive by the fact that which ever picture you go by, they're pretty ugly). In other words...

They're the frikking Prince of Demons! They can have frikking Hyena heads if they frikking want to! Capiche?

Whew! Thanks everyone, I'm done now.

I went into more detail in the Malcanthet article in Dragon, but the short version is that of the countless succubi who wanted the crown, only four were ever really in contention for it:

Malcanthet (the first succubus to manifest from the sins of mortal souls)
Shami-Amourae (the one in prison)
Xunvrae (the one who's worse off than dead, and I probably spelled her name wrong)
Lynkhab (the one who's depressed)

Red Shroud's not really in the running, since in the grand scheme of things she's still a newcomer to the Abyss. She could become a contender, I suppose, given time and a few more sneaky political moves.

I don't think it's a matter of whether or not Demogorgon can if he/they want to.

It's a matter of tradition, and a matter of irritation on the part of those who lean toward favoring it. Demogorgon is one of the major, long-lasting, iconic big-bad-villain types of D&D. He was there since D&D went high enough level to have him (though, oddly enough, I think back then, he was a she, <and no one complains about that change.>)

And he's always, iconically, been a dual-baboon-headed demon lord.

Many of the old guard view the hyena-headed change as a sundering of tradition and continuity on one of the most iconic characters in D&D... for the sake of... we dunno... being hip with the current kids who might find hyenas more bada**.

Kind of like... if they decided to turn Lolth into a dragonfly(and said as of now, she's always been a dragonfly) or something because spiders aren't as cool with the current gen.

As for me, I'm also annoyed because I see Hyena-Demogorgon as an insult toward baboons. n.-

I agree i think the Hyena Demogorgon is just a feeble attempt to change an almost everlasting force of evil into some weird droopy tentacled thing. oh and it will be a cold day in the Abyss when anyone turns Lolth into anything... unless she wants another face or whatever.

He'd jump between Demogorgon's heads with two axes and double decapitate him with one hit. Then he'd grab the necks, and squirt Orcus and Graz'zt in the face with them, and they'd be blinded. Then, he'd beat them both to death with the Wand of Orcus.

THEN, Iggwilv would come in, and throw him a bag of gold, and he'd go, "Crom!!! You know my price, wench!" And that'd be that.

The hyena-headed pic was not a mistake, just Demogorgon experimenting with his "Polymorph Specific Body-Part" spell when one of the abyssmal paparazzi snapped a photo and sent it to Paizo.

It's hell being a Demon Prince, everyone wanting a piece of your time or your realm...swarms of quasits just hanging around outside your palace waiting snap those embarassing pics...cut the guy some slack! ;)

Hang on a sec! Conan always gets the chicks. He'd toss Iggwilv over his shoulder, give her a sound slap on the can and carry her off kicking and screaming.

And THAT would be that!

I think I heart you Mr. Jacobs. We need more game designer's at the helm who acknowledge that Demogorgon would win between his three main enemies, though that's not to say that he has the ability to conquer the Abyss in it's entire and infinate self.

I've thought about it; Orcus would win.
Orcus always wins in the end.
