The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergard is a low-level mini-campaign. Adventures feature dungeon and wilderness exploration along with roleplaying.
I plan on posting most weekday mornings before 7 AM Eastern time. I’ll then respond the weekday morning that follows everyone posting their reply.
I’m looking for five players with a balanced party. I have most of the Wizards books, Dragon magazines, and access to the Dragon Compendium.
Once I have five players I’ll post more campaign details on the PBP forum. That post will include my e-mail to send characters to and some other details such as setting specific prestige classes and organizations.

I might be interested. I am possibly about to join another campaign but if it doesn't work out I would certainly like to join. I'll let you know. If I do join I call dibs on the sneak slot in the party. What is the starting level?
The starting level is 1st. Not sure if you like prestige classes but there is one called the twisted lord with sneak attack and several abilities to mess with opponent's minds.

I'm intrested. I would like to play a dwarven ranger if I could.
Great choice. A dwarf clan has recently moved to the settlement of Hemyulak and is scouting the neary Blackreach Mountains for ore. The village just happens to be known for producing rangers.
Goblins are a common favored enemy with animals and monstrous humanoids being somewhat common as well.

Cool. Harlynd Dorak the goblin-slayer it is then. Any further info on the clan or on how we should generate characters? Or should I just wait until other people have joined?

The clan is typical for dwarves, except rangers are more common. You can develop some ideas and send them to me to look over or I can provide some for you to examine, whichever you like. I'm assuming Dorak is your clan name, so it should be Clan Dorak.
Character generation will be just like in the Player's Handbook (4d6 method) and 1st level. If you want to use other rules just let me know and we'll work it out.
I would suggest talking to everyone else (I'm still fishing for two or three more players) before finalizing everything. A connection with one or two other characters would be helpful.

I confess to being tempted. I've never played a play by post game before, however, and I'm not sure how they work. I've been lucky enough to always have a gaming group available. That said, I mostly DM, so I haven't had much chance to play in ages.
Anyone willing to fill me in on how play by post/messageboard really works so I can make an informed decision?

I am in pretty much exactly the same situation as Koldoon. Interested, never done a PbP and not 100% sure how, and game a lot (2-3 nights per week), but almost always DM. It seems this could be cool.
I tend to prefer charismatic and/or intelligent characters (warlock, wizard, sorcerer) but can play anything.

Hey Koldoon, I might suggest you check out a few of the other PbP games running here on Paizo.com (under the Play by Post messageboard section) to see how they are run (I'm DMing the "Age of Darkness" one as a bit of a plug!)
It's actually surprisingly easy (I was a bit daunted at first), everyone just basically posts in character when they get a chance, and mostly the games keep running quite smoothly.
Most of the game threads also have an "out of character discussion" thread associated with them, where a lot of the "table-talk" etc. goes on.
They're a lot of fun.

First option is to check out some of the PBP posts here on Paizo to see how it goes. Second option is to read on!
I ran Age of Wyrms for on a Yahoo group last year. Basically, as the DM, I'll post the first scene. Maybe all of you enter a tavern to watch gnome wrestling for instance. I'll be as descriptive as I'm able. If your PCs don't know each other you can post here, in character, to get to know each other.
My next post might introduce an NPC or explain that a fight is breaking out. Again, you'd post how you react and can roleplay with the other players.
When we get to combat or out of character comments you can change your font to bold using BBCode by pressing the button below. You can say I rolled a 21 for initiative or what your attack roll is.
I can also hide text, showing the results of a Knowledge check with a 10, 15, or 20 based on what you rolled.
Etc. Slower than a live game, but with postings coming in most mornings a campaign can really move along.
Slaughtergard is an interesting setting. Lots of NPCs and organizations to join if you like that kind of thing. A few prestige classes. And some classic dungeon crawling and slashing.

shamgar and Koldoon: if you have time to check back here once a day Mon-Fri after 7 AM eastern time then I think you'd enjoy it. Strangely enough, it doesn't play so much different from the table version once it gets rolling.
Mothman made a good suggestion of checking out the other posts.
This is my first DMing of a PBP here at Paizo so I know I'd enjoy having a couple of new to PBP players onboard if you're interested.

If you've got a little patience for a new PbP guy, then I'm in. Having played for nearly ever the rules shouldn't be a problem. I'll just have to get the hang of playing in print.
Can you tell us more about the setting/area? I can either wait to pick a character until we have everyone else signed up since I don't have a huge preference or pick now. Which of warlock, sorcerer, wizard do you think might work best?
Thanks for the help. Pathetically enough, I have every non setting specific 3.5 book or module for reference so if you want to point me a direction I can look there.

I'm still interested, but I really want to take a look at some of the play by post games on paizo's site.
Also, you note that you own most WotC books + have access to the Dragon Compendium. I might be interested in one of the non-standard core-classes, depending on the group mixture.
Are there particular books I should avoid, or simply that you'd prefer I not use?
This is it for me for tonight (sadly I'm a working stiff). I'll look through some of the other play by post games tomorrow morning and then look here for your answers.

I'm okay with most of the books. I've had problems with psionics in the past however and that flavor doesn't fit too well with this campaign so I'd prefer to avoid that option right now.
We have one person playing a dwarf ranger and another playing an arcane caster at this point. So if you're up for trapfinder or divine caster that would work well. The archivist from Tome of Horror (and on Wizard's website) is an interesting option if you want to be able to eventually cast both cleric and druid spells.
If you have any other questions just let me know. Hope you decide to give the game a shot!

Other non-core classes that would work well for me are Psion, Duskblade, or Sword Sage. (In addition to the prev. mentioned Wizard, Sorcerer, or Warlock) Any suggestions?
I'm looking forward to this.
I'm glad you're in! Right now the only other character picked is a dwarf ranger. If you don't see another fighter type join up then I would suggest the duskblade so you can fight and blast.
If a few more players join up with a fighter or barbarian then I might suggest the warlock. The warlock would be easier to run on a PBP (no spell list) although a sorcerer would work almost as well. But the warlock doesn't have to stop to recharge, which makes the class interesting.
Also, the warlock fits well because of the Dark Cabal. Ebon Cabalists are ruthless aracanists who pursue power to gain what they desire. The Dark Cabal is a guild your PC might be able to join if he is interested and the dark scholar is a prestige class dedicated to studying ancient dark tomes.
The class sacrifices one level of spellcasting (or invocation gain) but gains access to several dark works that give game bonuses--from saving throw boosts to the ability to cast divine scrolls.
I will post a link here to the PBP section with more campaign details as soon as I'm able.
Any questions, please let me know.

This PBP is now filled. Balabar and shamgar are playing a dwarf ranger and an arcanist respectively. Rom and Kevin from my pen and paper game will be joining us shortly.
I'll leave a fifth spot open for Koldoon in case he decides to join in. Koldoon, you can even join in as a test drive. If you decide it doesn't work for you then you can simply post a goodbye with no hard feelings. That way, you could try the PBP if you want but not feel pressured to stay in if you later decide you don't like it.
Koldoon, if you join in and a combat class appeals (fighter, knight, warblade etc.) then that would work well.
Rom and Kevin I'd suggest one divine caster and one trapfinder.
shamgar, please play whatever arcane class appeals. I'd prefer no psionics but the warlock, duskblade, sorcerer, swordsage etc. are all okay with me.
I'll get a link posted here that points to both our PBP in game and out of character discussions. Just as soon as I have some extra time! Monday morning at the latest, but I'm going to try to get stuff posted sooner.

Are you full up or are u still taking players??
King of the Jakers I can take you but I won't have room for any more. I'll be posting a link to the PBP section soon. Welcome!
We have a dwarf ranger, a dwarf cleric, and an arcane guy so far. Haven't heard back from the possible other one or two, so if you're up for a trapfinder we could use one.

I'm still interested. I do have one caveat... I will be on vacation from June 2nd - June 10th and I will, unfortunately, not have internet access at this time. If this is a deal breaker, I'll need to bow out.
Otherwise, it sounds like you're looking at needing a combat oriented character (non-psionic). Let me take a look at the various combat classes (I was thinking possibly something out of Book of 9 swords) and I'll post what an initial idea, provided the aforementioned vacation isn't a problem and there is still space.

The vacation is no problem. You can simply post your PC leaving on some personal business and when you return post back in.
Right now we have a dwarf ranger, a dwarf cleric, an arcane caster, and possibly a dwarf trapfinder. So a fighter type would be great. I know a lot about the Book of 9 Swords so that works fine although a crusader would be somewhat complicated (random maneuvers) to do PBP. A warblade would fit in well.

Here's the link to our out of character discussion and the campaign setup:
Feel free to talk to each other on that forum. Discuss character options etc.
After everyone e-mails me their character I'll create the first post and note that link as well. Questions, please e-mail me or post at the forum above.
I'll plan on posting there from this point forward. Looking forward to the campaign!
