A city like Scuttlecove.

Liberty's Edge

Just wondering if there were any cities planned for Varisia with a Scuttlecove/Tortuga feel to them. My players are loving Scuttlecove. They really got a kick out of my own addition to the city, The Running of the Ghouls. Basically the bigwigs of Scuttlecove took their slaves and put them into a couple mile long gauntlet and released a pack of hungry ghouls behind them. The winner, the first slave to cross the finish line won his freedom. The others...well that wasn't pretty.

Liberty's Edge

Yerrs. I dig that.
I likey the ghouls, dude.
YOINK!!!

Liberty's Edge

Yeah my players didn't quite catch on at first. The I told them it was the annual Running of the Ghouls. At that point I got a choir of awwww...thats bad...then came the dice throwing and pencils.

Liberty's Edge

There's an old adventure called "Maze of Screaming Silence" by Monkeygod that has a lot of creepy wigged out npc's in a chaotic evil village. It's the funniest thing D&D wise I ever read.

I love this adventure. It's pure gold.

Running of the ghouls...

Now that's priceless. I'll remember that one for when I finally get around to running STAP.

Totally. F****ng awesome.

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm never seen this adventure...where can I find more?

or is it impossible to find nowadays?

The closest thing to Scuttlecove in Varisia will be the city of Riddleport. It's not nearly as vile and whacked-out as Scuttlecove, but it's probably not quite as friendly as Freeport.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the info James. I may add in my own version of Scuttlecove...maybe call it Scuttlebutt Cove or Rumorbay :)

Have to have someplace to hold the annual Running of the Ghouls.

Secluded tropical islands are always easy to park somewhere, especially if there's a big ocean. Port Royal here we come. The running of the ghouls. That's a good one. Didn't the most recent revisit of Erelhei-Cinlu (Dragon #302 IIRC) include something like this? Anyhow, your campaign's most depraved city needs to have this festival!

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm. Will have to look into it. Don't subscribe to Dragon, so I'm not sure what this festival is.

Probably the best part of the Running of the Ghouls is the look on my player's face, who runs the cleric. It was a mix of horror, and anger cause he knew he couldn't do anything about it. They were trying the sneaky approach into Scuttlecove.

*Turns the spotlight on Pett*

It seems you know more than you are letting on. Speak or this year's Running of the Ghouls will feature puppies and kittens instead of slaves!

The Styes? THE STYES???!!!

Liberty's Edge

Unfortunately they can't use the Styes. That is the intellectual property of WoTC. Too bad...the Styes were a evil DM's wet dream.

I just adore the Styes. I have the two Dungeon issues that features adventures in the Styes, but I've never had a chance to run them - my group plays do infrequently lately odds we'll all have to quit long before the characters are a high enough level. But I just love the creepy, flavoured horror those two adventures provide.

I love the Styes too, it's just a shame when I wrote the original I couldn't incorporate all the twisted ideas I've been having since - now that would be a realy bad place.

Oh, Pett, you naughty tease, you!
