Defeating the Runelords

The promo for "Spires of Xin-Shalast" says: "(C)an defeating Runelord Karzoug stop the rise of the Runelords? Or are there more terrors yet to come?"

I imagine there are, knowing you guys! Seriously, I hope you leave it open-ended. Reading through the Rise of the Runelords, I could not help but wonder what this would portent for a world, especially if Karzoug was not a Runelord, but only an apprentice - a pretender to their ancient and horrible power.

It's a great storyline, from what I can tell. I'll enjoy running it. Here's hoping the opportunity to contribute to this new setting also presents itself...

It will certainly be open ended. As in, there were seven Runelords. Karzoug's just one of them.

There's also seven deadly sins. Just sayin'...

Okay, now I'm curious just which seven sins you're thinking of, mostly because the seven virtues listed in Dragon recently weren't the one's I'm used to. So let's see...

Wrath, Lust, Gluttony, Envy, Avarice, Sloth and Pride, right?

...Yeah, I'm glad I'm Subscribed. This is gonna be awsome.

Hehe... and you'll never see the one representing sloth cause he was too lazy to get out of his lazyboy and kill the do gooders. (Just kidding James keep up the good work).

hmm.. like geomancy ala al-quadim?
Always loved that kind of magic.. especially those "geomancer halls", no doubt filled with magical pools allowing powers to be used by their master. A bit like a book of infinite spells.
Build the stuff at home and they go naked into the field, while brimming with item-power.

Bryon, check out todays Pathfinder blog (LINKY). You see a nice bit of info on all seven aspects of sin magic and the Runelords that mastered them.

Off topic (sorry guys), but which seven are you used to, Sean? The seven that Hal originally handed over were different from the seven that eventually made it into the magazine. I had to do a bit of Internet research to find the seven from the Roman Catholic church (and I do accept that I might have erred, since I don't always trust Internet sources). :)

I'll note: My source comes from too many computer games and my own head largely. I'm not saying you got the wrong ones, just not the ones I normally think of. That said:

Lust -> Chastity
Greed -> Charity
Envy -> Contentment
Gluttony -> Temperence
Wrath -> Peace
Pride -> Humility
Sloth -> Diligence

Again, some of these I blame on poor memory, bad fantasy, good fantasy and too much thinking.

I'm the one who wrote up the Fiend Folio wendigo; that version is mostly drawn from 4 sources mashed together:

Algonquian myth
Algernon Blackwood's awesome short story The Wendigo
Ithaqua, from the Cthulhu Mythos
The movie Ravenous

They're really nifty monsters, truth be told. And by "nifty," of course, I mean "horrifying."

Ravenous is, in my opinion, an underrated piece of work. Complete junk, of course, but fun junk. Good gamer inspiration :)

I love this movie! It's actually got a bit o' brilliance to it. I love the opening scene where the American flag is flying and then all the soldiers dig in on bloody-nasty steaks! Awesome set up for the rest of the movie!!!

Will specific monsters be linked to specific sins, for example, dragons as avatars of Greed, wendigos for Gluttony, lamias for Lust (or Pride) etc.?

I love the wendigo too. I actually snuck one into Shadowdale, but I don't think you'll recognize the result.

Ravenous is one of those movies I grabbed at Walmart for $3.99, but few people else seems to have seen. Figures I'd have to come here to find some that have.
