Time to sit down and do some academic analysis of the mysterious sigil. I don't expect my oddball collection of scrolls and tomes to contain any remarkable insights, but it might contain a few clues to where to look in a larger library... Mechanically, I guess I'll take 10 (if possible) on a gaggle of Knowledge skills, starting with arcana and religion, then working through history, local and any other that seems appropriate until something or someone interrupts me.

Spoiler for Othos:

Spoiler:
The symbol is completely unlike any particular rune Othos had even come across in his studies, but a thorough examination does reveal a few curious properties. First of all, the design appears to possess some draconic influence. Othos notes that the circular design, combined with numerous obtuse angles, suggests that the symbol is most certainly not elven or dwarven by nature. Again, however, the rune is obviously not a complete one. It seems to be inspired by draconic design principles but a true draconic rune would require far more intricate etchings and many more lines of focal power. Othos' first thought is that this is an imperfect copy of a true draconic rune. However, with the prevalence of draconic iconography in modern magic, the rune could have originated with just about any arcanist who possessed even an inkling of magical knowledge. Even then, why would they intentionally create an imperfect copy? The rune holds no power in its current incarnation and it seems that it could serve no purpose other than that of ornamentation.

If the rune is an imperfect copy, can I see what the original is? Also, does Calimport have any big libraries I could go to to do some further delving? And, finally, what did Beaky bring me?

You're unable to tell what the complete rune could possibly be. Due to the intricate details involved, you could complete a few lines here and there, add a couple things, and turn it into several different runes depending on what you did to it. The libraries in Calimshan are largely reserved for nobility and even then, finding an arcane text to assist your research would be next to impossible unless you were able to gain access to a mage's guild somehow. Since the vast, vast majority of Calishite arcanists are sorcerers, that might be tricky to find. Also, Beaky brought you a silver ring with a ruby cabochon set into it. It's worth about 250gp by your estimate.

"Ah, good boy, Beaky. This is just what I needed." After pocketing the ring, Othos turns his attention towards the source of the thunderous snoring. "Well, what do you know, we just found the Draconic rune for 'baked beans'. Damn amateurs could not even copy it right", he mutters to himself as he strides across the living room, before stopping in the doorway, leaving plenty of space between himself and the outsized sailor in case he didn't like being woken up. No sense in repeating that scene from the Efreet's Djinn last night.... "Ahem. Rise and shine?"

this is fascinating...are you going to continue?

Unfortunately, due to the extended absence and/or disappearance of half the game's players, I have suspended this campaign indefinitely. Perhaps, someday, I will resurrect it.

I know it's been a while, but I'd be up for rejoining if you are up for re-DMing... :-)

Hmmm... well, Grimcleaver is back to the boards and Vattnise is still around, so it all depends on them. Grim, Vatt, you guys up for rejoining? I haven't seen Lich-Loved around in awhile, but if he's still lurking, I'd love to have him back as well. Sovereign too. So yes, I will absolutely resume this game if the players are willing to re-commit. If necessary, I can look for new players as well, but I've got quite a bit of plot tied up in the current cast and would like to preserve as many of them as possible.

Okay, just waiting to hear from Grimcleaver. If he's down for rejoining, I will resurrect the game. Give me a couple days to figure out how I'm going to re-knit things. Also, if Lich-Loved and/or Sovereign are still around, I'd love to hear from them too!

*bump*

Lich-Loved! Grimcleaver! I know you're out there! What say you to the resurrection?

Male Human Supreme Overlord

Perhaps a weekend bump would be more effective? Grim? Lich? Interested?

Ready to go. Just shoot me the e-mail and post away.
