Just to add an option: Zaxby's.
Best fried chicken we've had at a fast food place, never had a bad meal. They're a tad expensive compared to other places, but worth it. I just wish that we lived closer so we could eat there more often than on our way to the Orlando parks.
When you live in an area where having a cow flung at you by the wind is a serious threat, you want your food places to be a lot sturdier than a truck :pPeople in the Midwest have recently discovered food trucks are a thing.
Before they assumed if you were going to eat something from a cart it had to be hot dogs, deep fried cheese curds or cream puffs.
At first I read that as having cow s#+! flung at you and my first thought was "no, we have cow chip throwing contests to avoid that exact situation".
My mistake.
I'm pretty certain there's some of that in the air too.

We got a local Zaxby's six months or so ago. I've heard the food is great, but... I haven't been able to convince myself it's ok to go there when a single Zaxby's meal is more expensive than an entire fried or rotisserie chicken from Publix or Winn Dixie. That isn't meant as knock on Zaxby's or anyplace that charges a still reasonable rate for their food (or service); it's just the reality of me being poor.

Wisconsin is like the cranky old man that constantly complains about people walking on their lawn then b%!!~es that no one comes to visit.
If you don't believe me go to any small town, find the nicest lawn, and walk on it.
Everyone will immediately glare at you, guaranteed.

I've never been a huge of fried chicken, or rotisserie chicken, but then I helped my dad murder hundreds of them growing up.

With the high praise, I decided to look for the nearest Zaxby's.
Hmmm..
The closest one is in Utah... 504 miles away.
And why do I know that number?
Because I put in my ZIP code and Zaxby's conveniently calculated the route for me!

D.C.'s Virginia suburbs have several locations to choose from re: Zaxby's. Winchester, VA (just north of the where I-66 ends at I-81), Richmond, VA (several) and Charlottesville, VA. All other locations are further away.
If I should happen to find something else drawing me to the vicinity, sure, I'll take a crack at it. Not driving 1-1/2+ hours each way just to nom some fried chicken. We have a variety of places to get it from locally: KFSquee, Poopeyes, Bahstahn Mahket, and at least a half-dozen different Peruvian-style chicken joints - not counting another gaggle of assorted BBQ joints for those who like BBQ chicken instead of fried or rotisseried. Both fried and rotisserie chicken is available from the various grocery stores and wholesale clubs.
I stopped eating KFC forever in the 80's, when I was in junior high. One of my dad's students was working part-time at a northern Wisconsin KFC and had to go into work the morning after a frat party.
He did the inevitable while mixing a vat of coleslaw.
And, terrified he was going to get fired, didn't tell anyone. Every single bit of it got packaged up and served to customers.
He never got caught.

Yea, we have similar issues; we live in Pittsburgh, Pa. We love Universal Parks and get season passes every other year (only way the trip from Pgh to Orlando is worth it). We discovered Zaxby's and are praying one will locate here.

Ah, no wonder you ended up in Berkeley! I was wondering about that!
On the other hand, if you can stand the whole, "It takes me 20 minutes to get to a non-jammed freeway in either direction", Berkeley's a darned central place, and avoids the whole, "OK, which parts of Richmond and Oakland are safe to stay in without risking life and limb for a low rent?"
Lisamarlene's in a nice neighborhood in Richmond, right near where we lived when Impus Major was born. NobodysWife's best friend lives in a very nice part of Oakland. But if you don't know the cities, you can get into some... interesting situations. But I think that's true anywhere...
The first night there was an armed robbery at my hotel. I got to watch my hotel on the news. The second night a homicide suspect led the police on a merry chase through our parking lot, with helicopters and everything.
The other convention members were appalled that I was staying in Chula Vista. But I was just my usual clueless friendly self, and the locals saw no reason to harass me. But it was definitely one of my more "colorful" trips...
It's also where I went for International Tabletop Day on the belief people that play tabletop games MIGHT want to try Pathfinder. (That plus the event organizer had a tab for "RPGs to run") I was rudely disabused of that. Though the Main Branch of the Carnegie Library IS pretty neat.

Been to GASP. It's a good group...but not sure I'm ready to head down that road again until my car is fixed.
I know. Like I said, it's a good group. Just that until I'm sure my car isn't going to lose the mirror on my way to Baldwin (or anywhere else) I'm not convinced about going anywhere farther than Fairmont.

Sorry for the delay responding. We're currently in Homestead, across the Greys/Highlevel Bridge. I grew up in Ben Avon.
I've been up in Somerset with my Mom for a week, helping out. Dad passed from a stroke on the 19th of March and Mom's not handling it well after 67 years of marriage. (The dementia doesn't help either...sigh)
