Three days without my community... I though I lost you guys!
Ultradan
The Seattle area got knocked out of power for several days. I'm sure your news sources can tell you all about it, but it looks like Bellevue just got re-upped. Bothell (where I live) just got power back about 20 minutes ago (after 62 HOURS of no power and below-freezing temps). Whee fun.
We're glad you were missing us, though. :)

Well, no news of this power outage reached Europe AFAIK. 62 hours without energy is terrible...
I bet the birth rate will soar in nine months in that area :-) There are quite some "blackout babies" born in an area in germany which had a major power outage last winter...
(is that the main reason for low birth rates in highly industrialized countries - too many distractions ? ;-))
I´m glad my favored website these days is back.

What happened was a massive low pressure system roared in off the Pacific and smalled the entire Puget Sound area (and a couple hundred miles inland over the Cascade Mountains, too) with extremely high winds on Thursday and Friday. The city had 40mph sustained winds with gusts to 60mph; where I live, up in the mountains, we had sustained 65mph and gusts of over 110mph. NOW I know what it's like to live in a hurricane! Trees fell by the thousands, power and cable and phone lines laid waste, dogs and cats living together...mass hysteria.
Fortunately I got all my baking done for the Paizo holiday party on Friday night, before the power went out. Unfortunately I most likely won't get power back until Thursday or Friday at the very earliest. This spelled certain doom for my four bigass aquariums in my house, as I have no generator or battery backup for the pumps and heaters - they barely made it 36 hours. The temp inside my house this morning was a balmy 41F, and tonite it's supposed to get down into the 20s and snow. I for one will be busy tonite huddling under a blanket getting extraordinarily intoxicated in loving memory of my 80 or so fish that have perished in the havoc.
If you know someone in this area, please make sure to call them and check on them. If you live in this area, make sure to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and make sure everyone gets out of this alive, okay?

I just found out that restoring the power to my building isn't even on the power company's schedule yet. Their best guess is that I might have power in a week or so.
Gary,
If you had a way to get here (Detroit, Michigan) I'd put you up. Anyone you can stay with til they restore your power?
By the way Phil, sorry to hear about the fish. It's always sad loosing pets.
Good luck guys, stay warm,
GGG

Oh, but do you ever get snow ? Sometimes it snows in NY but thats usually a light dusting upon the ground.

A few weeks ago (I'm just a hundred miles north of Paizo), we were hit with a sudden winter storm that dropped a foot and a half of snow on us overnight. Biggest snow in ten years.

I can't believe that I haven't heard anything about this on the news here in Quebec (damn them!). The Quebec community has this annoying habbit of overlooking what's happenning just beyond it's borders (in the U.S. and the rest of Canada).
Hang in there people; As long as you surround yourself with good people, friends and neihbors, you'll get through this. These situations usually bring out the best (and, dreadfully, the worst) in people.
Like when we experienced the great Ice Storm about nine years ago... With a one-foot thick sheet of ice everywhere, we lost our power for over a week in the dead of Janurary. And we were the lucky ones!! Some people in other parts of Quebec were powerless for an entire month! But everybody helped each other out and we all made it through.
Take care of each other.

In Central Oregon, we still got a pretty good windstorm ourselves - luckily we have two mountain ranges from the coast to break most of it up. Still knocked down a few trees and caused me to huddle under the blankets (I don't like high wind).
Stay warm, y'all!

Heh. Parts of Bellevue have power. For example, my next-door neighbors. Those bastards have power!!
I, sadly, do not.
Didn't you pay the electricity bill? :p
I know: The laugh is always on the loser, or something like that.
Hope you guys got reconnected in the meantime!
Greetings,
Günther
