True seeing issues (spoilers)

Age of Worms Adventure Path

I find it rather likely that my PC's party wizard will likely be using true seeing at the feast in TPoR; several times I'm sure as different people show up. Now I know he has knowledge arcana which would allow him to identify Lashonna as a silver dragon. However without ranks in knowledge religion he shouldn't be able to identify her as a vampiric dragon should he?

Hmm looking over her stat block I also noticed that they haven't put down her DR 10/silver and magic only leaving her draconic DR 15/magic.

This will sound strange, but how is he able to pull off arcane spells in the middle of a social situation without drawing lots of attention to himself? He would probably immeditaly see the four invisible blessed angels that constantly guard Zeech, which could cause another scene. Not to mention the can of worms (pardon the pun) that gets opened when he sees Mother Maggot.

That said, I'm pretty sure you need ranks in Knowledge Religon to identify a specific kind of undead, though her true appearance would not be the same as a normal, living dragon. Thus, the wizard would base his assumptions off whatever imagery you describe, but would not be able to identify exactly what she is.

I hate true seeing. All my players know that it is severely nerfed in my campaigns.

Dark Archive

If I remember correctly, True Seeing doesn't even last that long does it? I doubt it would still be active throughout the feast and if you set the atmosphere right then the PCs should be afraid to cast anything inside the palace walls. My PCs knew that the Blessed Angels watched people while invisible and thus were never sure that they were alone.

1 minute/level. I would have it run out before they even see Zeech, much less Lashonna. 15 minutes could easily elapse while the assembled guests are waiting on the terrace for their host to arrive. And Lashonna doesn't arrive for hours, so that's right out. I'd maybe let them see Mother Maggot if they cast it before the party, but if they cast it at the party, I'd have it considered extremely bad form and have them ejected. If they cast it when Lashonna is in view, I would describe her as a silver dragon in elf form, nothing more.

Can't you get permancy with it though? Or is that arcane sight?

That's just arcane sight, which doesn't reveal disguises or invisibility I don't think.

Since casting the spell requires smearing an ointment on your eyelids, it will be hard to get away with, although I suppose the wizard could possibly excuse himself for a quick trip to the privy before the socializing after the banquet. Anyhow, I'm not sure I'd nerf the ability, but I wouldn't give away Lashonna's vampiric state without a high knowledge (religion) check, just because it puts a bit of a crimp in the plot, potentially. I'm not sure that seeing Mother Maggot in her natural form will throw a major wrench in the works, since the characters don't have to work with her and she has no open connection to Lashonna. Even if the PCs do find Lashonna out, though, there's all that advice in the sidebar of LoLR to help you work past it in the plot. If they're the types not to work with Lashonna on an enemy of my enemy basis (after all, they still have no way of knowing she works for Kyuss, even if they find out she's a vampire), then you'll have to develop some other kind of hook to get them to the LoLR.

We're in the midst of the feast at the moment, having to stop right after the Cocktrice battle. Yes my PC's are insisting on sneaking in as much stuff as possible but the only weapon that made it in was a masterwork dagger presented as part of a costume. The true seeing oinkment is, I assume itself easy to hide. He has just used it once as they were being shuffled through the maze of corridors to the "cock" fight. He's spotted Mahuudril but I don't know if he'll act on this information as no one has weapons and I'm not sure if the Blessed Angels particularly care if they are spotted or not. Personally I think they would simply note that the PC can see them and keep an eye on him.

As for Lashonna herself, well I guess it all depends on how well he rolles his Knowledge arcana check. He may know a bit about silver dragons but he may only know about them thru a certain age category. Her teeth may appear larger than normal but she could have the improved natural attack (bite)feat.
Also you must remember the other odd looking dragons they fought earlier. They had glowing green eyes that shed glowing mist, very odd indeed.

No, I think they will give up on their theory of Lashonna being the BBEG and likely believe her to be a red herring since they saw Mahuudril.

Mahuudril will likely be excusing herself from the party rather soon.

The whole feast has been a fantastic adventure thus far!

Make sure characters pay the material component cost for that and other spells (stoneskin) that are easily abused, particularly by sorcerers.
