Question: Let's say we've got a fighter, who's got the improved Trip feat and prefers to swing around a spiked chain as weapon of preference. He's got a base attack bonus of 6, meaning 2 attacks in a round. Say he's within range of 2 goblins. Can he trip both, one per attack, or can he trip one, be succesful, give up his extra attack after tripping and trip the other, be successful on that one as well, then hit both? Just wondering. I don't think the rules say, so it's open to discussion.

I think he has to take his automatic attack immediately upon the successful trip attack. I could be wrong though.
So it would go:
1st attack
(if successful then bonus attack on 1st tripped victim)
2nd attack
(if successful then bonus attack on 2nd tripped victim)
Does that answer your question? Or did I miss it completely?

My biggest concern was whether it was possible to trip two different targets, and it seems you guys think so. Now, can my DM think so once my fighter/cleric for the SCAP hit's 6th level...
ok, i have a question for you: are you gestalted fighter/cleric or are you going to be fighter x/cleric y (x+y = 6) at 6th level? if the former, you should be tripping multiple opponents each round; if the latter, youll have to wait until your bab is +6 to get your multiple attacks.

I have a different question concerning improved trip, but I hope you can still help me.
The question ist: can you make an unarmed attack while you are armed? (carrying a weapon)
Background to the question: a dwarf fighter in my group has the improved trip and likes to combine this with the spell enlarge. He then tries to trip his opponent, which practically never fails with strength 18, enlarge and improved trip. Directly after his opponent is tripped he has a second attack, which is with a +4 modification because the opponent is prone. Can he make this attack, and the attack of opportunity which he gets when his opponent is trying to stand up, with his dwarfen battle axe which he already had in his hand while he was making the unarmed attack that tripped the opponent?
If this is possible improved trip is by far the most powerfull feat in the game?
Could you please give me your ideas on this problem.
Thanks a lot.

I allow the half-orc chain fighter in my campaign to use combat reflexes and improved trip. As he braces his legs and swings his chains about, the first three opponents to enter his threat range suffer a trip attempt. He's hideously dangerous... and if he has to drop his chains due to a bad roll, he then quick-draws his falchion, turns on power attack, and is soon drenched in blood... the enemy's blood, mind you. ;-)

Sure. But the bad guy probably should have run away when he saw an enlarged dwarf fighter in the first place. and then riddled him with crossbow bolts. Which is what I do :)

As long as you have a free hand, yes. However, if the dwarf in question has filled his off-hand with a shield or another weapon, then the answer is no (unless that weapon allows trip attacks).
As far as neutralizing the abuse of this ability, I think you'll find that Large, four-legged creatures (such as centaur, I believe) will prove most difficult to trip even with this combo.

Well, I was about to comment on this, when I decided to check the srd:
Improved Trip [General]
Prerequisites
Int 13, Combat Expertise.Benefit
You do not provoke an attack of opportunity when you attempt to trip an opponent while you are unarmed. You also gain a +4 bonus on your Strength check to trip your opponent. If you trip an opponent in melee combat, you immediately get a melee attack against that opponent as if you hadn’t used your attack for the trip attempt.
Normal
Without this feat, you provoke an attack of opportunity when you attempt to trip an opponent while you are unarmed.
by the RAW, you need to be fully unarmed, which makes sense the way I'm imagining it. You grab someone on both shoulders and sweep with your leg to shove them over. Of course, you might picture this differently for a Monk.
So to answer the initial question, no the Dwarf cannot trip with his Shield and Dwarven Waraxe. He'd need to wield some weapon that allows tripping, like a flail.

What your player is doing is legal (and not even particularly optimized - a better build for your players dwarf would involve the spiked chain). However the follow on attack does not give a +4 for the victim being prone. The feat specifically states that you get to make the attack as if it had been done instead of making the trip. So your hitting the opponent on the way down and not while he is prone.
