The ubiquitous dungeon toilet room

Savage Tide Adventure Path

There's one in almost every dungeon, and I love that the one in the Lotus Dragon guild hall has "the latest technology in chamber pots."

Just curious if there've ever been any interesting traps or monsters that are in these little 5x10 foot rooms.

Does it feature a tiny otyugh septic tank? I can see it now, when the party searches the room and questions the otyugh he turns to them and says, "Hey, it's a living," a la the old Flintstones cartoons.

I may remove this area. The room is like 10 feet from water, which is probably where the chamber pots will be dumped. I don't see why the thieves wouldn't just relieve themselves in the cave water.

Because the devilfish will bite the heck out of 'em...

I personally find the privies in every dungeon a vaguely amusing, completely anachronistic feature. At most there should be a hole in the ground, or a general midden where all rubbish and waste gets thrown. But of course, this is fantasy, so fantasy privies are probably not unreasonable....

Best use of a cursed magic item goes to: the bag of devouring!

Actually, I put the lavatories in the Lotus Dragon Guildhall as a sort of in joke; a few times, adventures in the magazine have featured compelxes that didn't mention where those who live there do their dirty sinful business, so I figured I'd put in a lavatory to keep the crowd happy.

It worked! :)

Coming from first edition, where all kinds of sparkly, magical treasures were lost by previous dungeon denizens while sitting on the commode, my players tend to exhibit a peculiar interest in such places. It'll take several messy, unfruitful search results, accompanied by failed Fort saves to contract filth fever to break them of it.

Seriously, any time a refuse pile, midden heap, outhouse, or other foul, noxious area appears in an adventure I run, these guys dive in head first.

I believe it was in Necromancer Games' Rappan Athuk superdungeon that the toilet in one level was actually a horrible, disgusting mimic. Yuck.

DM: You find a small room with a hole in the ground. It looks like an ancient lavatory that hasn't been used in eons.
Player: I remedy that.
