Downer stats?

I heard a rumor somewhere that the Downer Critical Threat in Dungeon 138 is actually Downer Tarantula himself. Is this actually true?

I hope so.

Anyways, what CR/class breakdown is he?

I actually don't have the article in front of me, but unless it changed, it was:

Downer Tarantula CR11
Male drow fighter 5/rogue 3/duelist 2

The big crunchy parts are the rules for his wings and Gravedigger's Skull. There are lots of details on his life before the comic picks up.

And if so was he ecl 1 because of no spell-like abilities?

No, but "Kroiph" is.

I generated the stats for Downer for the article; he was never a PC. I gave him the extra feat to compensate for the lack of spell-like abilities. And he does have the gold of a PC of his levels.

I loved the first meeting between Downer and Taggit, when they break out into Parlyaree (sp?) as their Thieve's Cant. I'm only familiar with it being a lingo used by certain(ahem) 'theatrical' types...

I half-expected Downer to introduce us to his 'special friend' Sandy (obscure 1960's BBC radio comedy reference, ahoy!)

Kyle, were you intentionally dropping a homage to 'Round the Horne' and other 'nudge-nudge, wink-wink' Brit-comedy as the 'Carry On...' films, or was it just a coincidence that Downer and Taggit resembled Kenneth Williams and Sid James (those sideburns...my God...)?

Drizzt made me hate drow, Downer has made me love them once more. Now if only Kyle could make Downer pincushion Drizzt with his wings (perhaps just a drow with two scimitars)?

Do those anti-light-blindness goggles he wears have stats, or are they printed somewhere else? An upcoming character has a need of a pair. Yeah, I could take the Daylight Adaptation feat from the FRCS or Eberron, but then I wouldn't have an excuse to wear goggles.

Aha. Apparently, Kyle needed the same question answered when he statted out Downer. I only looked in the Dungeon boards, so I missed this thread:

So, yeah. 10 gp instead of a feat? No other penalties? Nice. (And Downer didn't even have to pay that, as the Needleman gave him his pair, if I recall.)
