Looking for Tarl Cabot stats from old Dragon issue...

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Can somebody tell me which issue of Dragon featured the stats for Tarl Cabot (from the Gor series of novels by John Norman)?
thanks,
Frank

I have it at home, and you're in luck because I just put all my Dungeon and Dragon magazines in order. You'll have to wait about 10 hours, as I am at the office, but some other supra-genius will probably answer before then.
I have waaaay too much game crap.

Just seeing those names - Tarl Cabot - Gor, gives me hives - I read the first 4 in high school at the urging of one of my best friends and gaming buddies who insisted they were great before I just couldn't take any more.

Those books are the perfect example of why so many people who love the written word refuse to read science fiction or fantasy.

I hope you found the stats you wanted though.

I hear that! The Gor series is utter garbage. It is to fantasy what scientology is to christianity...

I believe the stats and character summary appear in a Giants of the Earth article in either #61 or #63 (from 1982).

I only ask because I recently found a copy of the first novel in a used bookshop and read it as a lark. I remembered that there was a writeup years ago and I was curious to see it again.
I wasn't impressed with the book at all, but it was always a book (series) I heard alot about years ago but never knew anything about.
I heard there was a really bad movie too but I haven't been able to find it.
All in all, this was like a MST3K reading assignment with the bonus of looking up D&D stats from years ago. Upon reflection, I feel really old now...and I'm only 37! :)
Now I have an idea where to find the article from that cd collection of Dragon Magazines!
thanks again,
Frank

Actually, there were 2 Gor movies (Gor and Outlaw of Gor) and count your blessings that you haven't seen them. I rented when they first came out on VHS and they were both pretty bad. What a waste of Jack Palance and Oliver Reed!

You can find info on these cinematic abominations here

I remember liking the first few books, but even then I thought that the series on the whole was a long-winded version of Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter of Mars series.

I still like the idea of the apparently addle-minded/mentally incompetent chess master. That was pretty funny-cool.

So Jack Palance was in Hawk the Slayer AND the Gor movies?!
Now I have to see them (my friends love awful movies and recently I tortured them with My Son the Vampire starring Old Mother Riley and Bela Lugosi). I hope I don't fail a Sanity check after I see them!

Ahh...here it is. Dragon #61; May 1982.
It also has a 2-page spread of the new monster cards, with such new beasts as the zorbo, the thri-kreen, wemic, and hybsil.
Oh...and in the reviews section, the new "Call of Cthulhu" boxed set.

I alwaysa loved that old Dragon issue..was that the same era as the Loony Tunes chracter write up..

Donald the Duck..4th lvl berserker..rage is triggered when you throw something at him and say "Donald, duck!"..
