Prints of Dragon Covers ???

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Does anyone know if it is possible to get good, art prints of past Dragon covers? I'm assuming the artist probably retains the rights to such things, but thought I would check just in case. Dragon staff, do you offer prints of the paintings that grace your covers?

I am specifically interested in the Dragon cover that featured the Half Orc Paladin. Remember that one? I REALLY would love a good print of that to frame and hang in my office. Does anyone know who the artist was and if he/she has a website or anything? Maybe I can get a good print fom the artist?

Thanks!

I know Todd Lockwood has a website, but I'm not sure about any others. I agree, though, there have been quite a few covers that made me go *squeeeeeeee!!* I want it on my wall!! (Did I mention I love fantasy art?)

If you're talking about the cover painting I think you're talking about (Half-Orc paladin with helmet, crouched on one knee amulet to chest, propping himself up on a sword) it's Mark Zug, I believe. I'm sure he has a website out there someplace. It's hard to be successful as an illustrator of any stripe now if you don't have a website. Most illustrators will sell a simple print for $25-$50.

I have to plug my friend Dan Dos Santos' work; while he hasn't done any Dragon covers yet he's been on quite a few fantasy novel covers, has been featured in Spectrum and has recently begun doing Magic cards for the upcoming set. www.dandossantos.com

Fantastic! It was indeed Mark Zug and he does have a web site.

Here is the painting even:

I knew this was the place to come for answers!

Absolutely spectacular work showcased on his site- thanks for plugging it. :)

I want next month's as a poster....Seeing those evil dragon heads together looks awesome! A far cry from the illustrations in the first edition monster manual <G>.

Build the poster and they will come.

This is a little off the subject, but I would like to be able to download art that appears in Dragon and Dungeon, just like you can do on wotc.

Agreed. It would be nice to have more of the art available for download as desktop wallpapers and the like.

Best covers over the years for me are the old one with the jet fighter pilot taking aim at the dragon with dragon kill stickers on his cockpit and the great Larry Elmore cover from Halloween the one year with the witch and the scarecrow.
