Wererats Treasure (watching Orak's bathhouse)

Shackled City Adventure Path

Am i suppose to give the treasure suggested in the Monster Manual when the SCAP refers to the monster manual for the monster. 4 Wererats were a EL6 encounter, which equates to quite a large ammount of treasure. I initially asked my players to roll on the random treasure list, which i dont think we ever have done before and they rolled about 900gp, 50gp gem, bunch of smoke sticks and acid flasks.

The amount seems way to much, i could justify maybe 400gp (100gp each as payment to keep a eye on Orak's bathhouse, but thats about it).

I think i read somewhere on the board that treasure had already been set for the whole adventure..though im not sure if that for all instances.

Should i renig on the treasure and maybe cut the coinage down, or let them have there spoils..its works out to be a extra 300gp per character?

TIA

The book is pretty accurate as far as treasure goes. You do not have to add any more treasure. Even if the encounters are 'standard' MM ones. This is true for all Dungeon adventures, btw. Most of the treasure is at the back of the adventure, though. That means that the first few encounters, such as the wererats, come up relatively light, while Drakthar more treasure than you would expect from a typical CR6 monster.

As an aside, I think the treasure tables assumes you encounter the monster in its lair. You should reduce the amount of treasure found on the monster when it's outside of its lair. They're also based on CR, not EL. In the case of the whererats, they should have four CR 2 treasures, not one EL 6 treasure. Although the total value may be similar (e.g. 4000gp), it will give you 1 valuable item (such as a shortsword +2), rather than 2 items of lesser value such as 4 shields +1)

Another potential problem I see is that you let the players roll their own treasure. That takes the availability of magic items, and all game balance issues that go allong with it out of your hands. Generally speaking, that is a bad thing.

Taking away the treasure you allready gave them will probably give you more trouble than it's worth. let them keep it. Just make it clear that you won't be handing out treasure that way again.

I assumed that the treasure troves for each adventure has the treasure for the NPCs that have zero to little treasure (like the Alleybashers). I told my players as much when they asked why none of the mooks have even a single copper on them.

I also like to customise my treasures a lot so I will remove other treasure to compensate. Again my players know this now and don't raise an eyebrow when something has no treasure.
