Y-a-t-il des français par ici !?
I just went through the "german" board, and I'm quite amazed to see how many german players are on those boards.
Also, I've seen that some people on those boards come from one of the scandinavian countries.
I'd like to know if there are other european countries around here...
As far as I know, most of the swedish, danish or german people (sorry, I have not met many finish or norvegian people) I have met were more fluent in english than most of my fellow people.
Ich habe auch in deutsch gespielt (!?) mit "die schwarze Auge" (translated from german by some friends back in the 80's).
However, even if I like speaking german, "ich habe zu viel vergessen...".
Really, it's great to know so many people in so many countries do continue to play RPG, even if there is a lack of communication about what are RPG...

Whatever, I'm surprised you needed a translation from German for "l'Oeil Noir" (The Dark Eye). It's been tranlated twice in French back in the 80s, once by Schmidt and the other by Gallimard in a pocket version (like the solo quest books like Lone Wolf, Fantastic Challenges and so on.) If I remember well this game was very popular in France. I have great memories from this game. Stories like "le Fleuve du désastre" (River of Disaster ?) was a great murder-solving story which triggered my passion for GMing. "L'Auberge du Sanglier Noir" (Encounter at the Black Boar Inn) was also great.
I think the game was published again in English in 2001. I don't know if it did well since.

I read the threads on the Age of Worms AP, and I play in Greyhawk, and always have for the past 13-14 last year. Even before that, I had played in Greyhawk, but I didn't know (slavelords, queen of the demonweb pit, tomb of horror,...).
I live in the southern suburb of Paris (the closest suburban area, or as we say "the little belt").
About the "dark eye", yes indeed, I know it was translated in french, but my friends bought it back in june 1985 (it was translated in 1986 I think).
I've been playing D&D, Ad&D, AD&D 2nd ed., then 3rd, then 3.5 (with a little bit of Ctuhlu, Paranoia, Stormbringer here or there) for the past 22 years.

I am living in Clichy la Garenne (92) in northwestern Paris. I'm currently DMing a Forgotten Realms SCAP campaign. I've played AD&D1 Greyhawk and Blackmoor back in the 80s, but switched to FR when some friends and I decided to play AD&D again in 1998 after a nine-year hiatus (during which we played CoC and Hawkmoon-Stormbringer a lot). Everybody was Baldur's Gate crazy at the time, so FR seemed a logical choice.
Funny you talked about 22 years of play, same for me :)

Yes, I've been playing for the past 22 years (I'm 34) and I been DMing for the past 15 years (unfortunately). One of my players is thinking about making us play in the FR, and another a CoC, but none has written his scenario yet.
I also played Storm-Hawkmoon, but since we've been playing around once every 6 weeks, we sticked to D&D.
How often do you play ?
Currently, what scenario of the SCAP (number ?), and at what level are you playing ?

We try to play every other week, minimum once a month. It's sometimes difficult but we try to stick to it as we never play during week-ends and have really short sessions (4-5 hours usually on Wedneday evenings). We started in October 2004 and are currently playing "Zenith Trajectory". As we started before the hardcover was released, we did not play "Drakthar's Way" but I added two personnal stories along the way. The players are currently around a few XPs short of 8th level except a new character who is a 6th level tiefling cleric of Kossuth (7th ECL). They are going to fight Gottrod after tomorrow and enter the Pit of Seven Jaws. Can't wait to get out my brand new cryohydra miniature from behind the screen ;o))

Can I compliment both of you on your English, by the way? As a pathetic monoglot I personally find your grasp of a foreign tongue very impressive (better written English that most English people, in fact - curse our diabolical education system).

Thank you very much. Let me tell you a story back in my first year of english lessons. I had to translate from french to english, and the result would have been "it's foggy.", but I translated in "it's froggy." (after all, I am french...)
I have never forgotten...Read from you around...

Thanks for the compliment especially from a loyal subject of Her Majesty ;o). I've learned British English at school and I find it sometimes difficult to understand US idiomatics. However, everybody uses a pretty high level of language on these boards, so difficulty is not that high after a while.

Well, another player wouldn't be too much, especially if you're inclined to play rogue types (we're missing one !). However, you know these boards, seem to have a pretty good knowledge of the SCAP and of Age of Worms, and I know how easy it is sometimes to let some information slip even when one doesn't intend to. Perhaps we should meet and talk about it. Write me at gchaudemanche_AT_hotmail_DOT_com so that we can arrange a drink somewhere to discuss it.
