Know what I'd like to see? I'd like to see a whole Bazaar of the Bizarre dedicated to magic rings.
Hmm... good thing I'm editor of the department...
If you think you might want to tackle that idea, pop me an email (mike dot mcartor at paizo dot com) with 7-8 ring ideas. I have a couple in mind that I'd like to see, so if I like your query I'll let you know about those. :)
2,000 words. 7-8 rings. Blah blah blah...
*readies himself for about 30 queries*

You know you're asking for what you get here....
I may have to go home and brainstorm rings.

Oh I know. I thought about just sending out an email to all my past contributors, but I thought this might be more fun. See if I can stir up any new blood to compete with the folks I already know can deliver good stuff (like Zherog there). ;)
I'm always looking for new blood, even as I continue to enjoy working with my reliable contributors. :)
Plus... you know... a reward for those who read the messageboards here.

And the new blood appreciates the opportunity... you should receive my query shortly!

I'm going to put a deadline on this little "contest" of 1pm PDT, Monday, January 16th, 2006. The "winner" will hear from me by 5pm of that day.
Even if I don't pick your query for print you might offer me some neat idea that sends me off on a little tangent and that ends up with me asking for an article anyway. You can ask my regular contributors about my tangents. ;)
...
In other news, Jason brought up the idea of doing an open call again some time in the future for other types of items. His suggestion was rods. I like his suggestion. I will probably take him up on it in the coming months. Stay tuned! :)

Everybody loves pie!
Mmm, mmm pie! ^_^
Argh. I was out of town and didn't see this until today. Alas!
D'oh! There you go trying to have a life outside of D&D... ;)
Seriously, though... I hope you get to be a part of the Bazaar of the Bizarre Freecall II: Rods!
Coming soon to a messageboard near you.

Oops, with that last post what I meant to do was to also let everyone know the status of who "won" this little free call. I got numerous excellent proposals from skilled veterans and promising hopefuls. Every proposal I received had its merits, but none was singularly sock-knocking-off good.
So I went through and cherry picked.
Some of the contributors might not like the concept, and to them I apologize. This was not my intent at the outset, but in the end it seems like the best solution. For the next free call I'll just announce this concept from the beginning.
Essentially, I have written a number of contributors and asked them write me a ring. So when this Bazaar of the Bizarre sees print there will be several names associated with it, rather than just one.

How about magical oddities... I have tons of wands, staves, rings, rods, etc to choose from. I personally would be interested in, say, magic items found in the typical home or magic items found in a wizards lab. Or how about high magic worlds where alot of minor magic items are available to the common people.

Shoot me a query. I'm less interested in the high magic worlds with minor magic items. We've done a few of those recently and I tire of them.

Are you offering to write those, Calidore? Or requesting somebody give it a try? If it's the latter, maybe I'll send Mike an e-mail later today. :D
Actually I do have a few items created.... I'll work it up and send it in.. Of course if you already have items created I'm not to proud to attempt to co-author an article, or heck just be listed as a contributor to the article.
Sorry it took so long to post I just switched from one side of my base to the other and I'm learning a whole new job. Weeeeeeee.

I really like the idea of having multiple writers contribute to one article. One of the things that worries me is that if I ever was asked to write something I wouldn't be able to do it, for right now I think I feel more comfortable only being responsible for a part of the article.
I think when and if that rod article comes around I may send in my first query! I have a few ideas cooking up in my head, hopefully one of them will be good.
Now I need to make sure I don't miss it.
