There seems to be some kind of a time limit on how long we have to edit our posts. I've been kind of wondering why that is. It makes sense in forums where the flames are hot and constant as it insures that people don't go back and edit what they said at a later date but I rarely notice this sort of thing on these boards.
What there are often a lot of on the boards are long winded well thought out posts by varous people on the suibject of gming in general and 3.5 edition D&D in particuler. Yet because we can't edit our posts past maybe an hour after we have written them we can't fix any spelling or grammatical errors that have crept in. Nor can aspects or topics be clerified. I often notice when looking a post I have written a few hours (or maybe a day) later that not only did I mess up the spelling and grammer but that what had seemed like a clear concept in my head came out badly and could use a few words or another sentence to clerify things.
Is it possible to eliminate the restriction on how long we can edit our posts for or at least extend the time we have to do so since the policing function of having a time limit seems moot.

This has more to do with thread removal than editing but still I would hate to add a thread to get one removed. earlier today I posted the new thread "Shiny New Black Hats" in the Dungeon General forum. I clicked to see it and it didn't register. Being a paranoid sort I try to always copy my text before submitting so I simply created a new thread - an exact copy of the missing one. It showed up and I was happy. An hour later I looked again and there were two. I was wondering if you would be so kind to save me the embarassment of looking like a perfect fool in front of my peer group by removing the errant thread - so far I'm the only poster.
Thanks in advance,
GGG

I too, was just wondering this same thing, any answers out there?

Yes, one reason for the time limit is to avoid people "rewriting history," but another reason is that people expect new information to be added at the bottom of a thread; people who visit often could miss new information if it were added to a post they've already looked at. So if you need to add new information, making a new post will ensure that it doesn't go unnoticed.
