Use weapon against barriers

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Tell me please, can I use weapon against barriers? I suppose that I could use weapon only when fighting with monster, not in all melee or ranged checks (for example, I could not use weapon to receive another weapon).
But on the other hand, Closed Stone Door has Check To Defeat equals to 22 + adventure level - I cannot imagine making such check without using weapon.

Weapons (usually) define a combat check, so you can use a weapon against a barrier if the check to defeat is "Combat." Similarly, you cannot use a weapon to defeat a monster if the check to defeat is not combat. (Curse you, Siren!)

You can use a weapon on a check to defeat (or acquire) when it has Combat as a skill check. But if it does not have Combat, and most barriers do not have Combat, then you cannot use a weapon.

Find Traps gives you 2 dice against a barrier. A Blessing of Abadar gives you 2 dice. You can discard a Crowbar for 2 dice against certain barriers. Someone skilled in fighting barriers probably has +4-+6 against it. The right character can beat this barrier with the right help.

Caltrops you, Siren! :)

Thank you for explaining.

Thanks.

Yes, of course. But if I had such cards, I'd be better try open door with Disable skill.

Crowbar gives you 1 additional die if I remember correctly?

If your character has the disable skill to begin with. Otherwise most characters might still try to run against that door even if their Strength is only a d6.

1 on reveal, 2 on discard I believe.

Ah. That might be the reason why I had a vivid memory of "... 1 die..."

With only a Strength 3 check to recharge, I almost always discard the crowbar for two dice and hope to not shank the recharge roll. I only keep it if I know I have another non-combat Strength check coming up (for example, the check to close a location).
