The AoWAP starts out touching on the Wind Dukes of Aaqa. I haven't gotten far enough into it yet, so don't know whether that theme disappears later on. However, I find the back story intriguing. And... I'm ignorant of it. Now, I know in the Whispering Cairn sidebar, it states that the Rod of Seven Parts is incidental to the adventure, but I wanted to do some more reading on it, and especially these Wind Dukes / Vaati.
I have The Rod of Seven Parts (TSR 1145) - but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Are there any other sources for the Vaati / Wind Dukes? Who they are? What deities, if any, they worship? Any help y'all can give would be great.

In addition to the aforementioned Rod of Seven Parts product, some additional pieces of info about the Wind Dukes appear in the relatively recent RPGA tournament "Finger of the Wind" (it was the AD&D Open at GenCon 2000), as well as the much older RPGA modules R7-10 "The Dwarven Quest for the Rod of Seven Parts" (some details on this appear on the Acaeum at http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/ModPages/R2.html).
A more-easily accessible online article by Erik Mona about the Cairn Builders appears on Canonfire! at http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/modules.php?name=News&file=article& sid=226
While it's not explicit in linking any of the three cairn building groups to the Wind Dukes, the last group listed evokes the Wind Dukes and the Whispering Cairn. Erik also discusses mythic Oerthly civilizations, including the Wind Dukes, in his blog archives at http://www.superunicorn.com/blogger_archive/erik/2005_02_01_erik_archive.ht ml and http://www.superunicorn.com/blogger_archive/erik/2005_03_01_erik_archive.ht ml
(if there's anything at http://www.superunicorn.com/blogger_archive/erik/2005_04_01_erik_archive.ht ml I can't tell, since the page loads blankly :( ).

The inex page doesn't seem to be working right, but the direct links ought to get you to the posts in question.

I don't suppose anyone HAS these nifty pieces of history?
Yes, in fact :D
If I get some spare time over the holidays, I'll see if I can summarize them on my Greyhawk Tourneys web page on my site at http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/

The old Rod box contains an NPC vaati or two, I believe. One of them is Qadeej. His glyph is depicted in the Whispering Cairn. There are also images of the spyder-fiends on the various frescoes and such. I was hoping to get the Age of Worms take on those raklupsis, lycosidiliths, and even Mishka himself. He was fearsome.
Back in the day, when the group made it as far as him, completed Rod in hand, he had killed everyone and knocked the cleric unconscious before the wizard decided to plunge the Rod through the Wolf-Spider. It was a greusome scene.

Not yet, Ed: my holiday gaming leisure hours were consumed with planning an AD&D finale to the campaign my two brothers played years ago; alas, we weren't able to find time to play (doubly-alas since I had lugged quite a few books to NJ for the game!).
With my work projects finally back to a relatively-normal level of insanity, I should have more time to add further info to my site in the next few months. I'll see if I can find the old post that I had put together detailing the powers of the Ro7P in R10 vs. the AD&D DMG (but I think it was lost when ezBoard was purged several months ago).

Ed, BOZ and others: I posted part one of my long-promised info to my site at http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/gh_tourneys_finger_of_the_wind.html
Next up, I'll provide a similar summary for R7-10 "The Dwarven Quest for the Rod of Seven Parts"; some info already appears in Dragon 65 and on the Acaeum at http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/ModPages/R2.html
More to come :D
