This article request may cost too much money for Dragon, but maybe this idea will strike a chord with somebody.
How about putting spells on cards, same size as the miniature stat cards that come with the plastic miniatures WotC sells?
The DM could pile the cards with all the spells the bad guy NPC spellcaster has off to the side a half hour before the game starts--no endless flipping pages during the heat of a spell battle.
Put a full page of about 12-20 cards in Dragon magazine and see if it's a hit....then put out a boxed set (similar to the old AD&D collector's cards from 90-91) with ALL the 3.5 spells on them....I'd spend some serious money on that because it would save me so much time before and during the game.

I want the same thing when I DM.
Definitely a product unto itself, and not a Dragon article, but I would love to see this.
I remember these from 2nd edition.

Well, I thought maybe Dragon could do a "test run"...I remember the monster tokens a few years ago in Dungeon...I was thinking something along the same lines.
I hate, absolutely hate, stopping or slowing the game down while I flip pages to find a rule in the books, or a spell, or whatever.
I got so totally spoiled by the 2nd edition books all online in the AD&D Core Rules CD-ROMS that when I started running 3rd edition, I tried to put everything on index cards so I could run my game with minimal interruptions.
I know that I could use the d20srd websites to look up a lot of stuff while I'm running the game, but I really, really, like running my game off unobtrusive index cards. I buy the miniature booster packs for the cards almost as much as the miniatures.
....that's also why I was pushing so hard for Dungeon stat block .pdf's until you guys explained to me in Scalemail why it couldn't be done.

Looks like Paradigm Concepts has already done this for d20.

The Spell Decks are not updated to 3.5 though there may be some changes.
