Cult of the Green Lady

Age of Worms Adventure Path

Hi, I'm running the path and have a Paladin of Wee Jas, and untill the Overload comes out could someone official explain how the cult is diffrernt then discribed in "Doomgrinder" if at all, mabey a little blurb like the ones given about the monestary and lodge on another thread. Thanks for your time.

Other than Doomgrinder, I don't think there is any other information. Incidentally, in 2e Wee Jas didn't have Paladins since she didn't grant spells to anyone of good alignment. Nor have I ever seen an NPC in a module who was a LG worshipper of Wee Jas. Of course, this is your campaign, but I've never seen the Paladin dogma as working well with the Wee Jas dogma myself. IMC she doesn't have LG priests and all her clerics channel negative energy (spontaneously inflict, rebuke/command undead). I recognize that the 3rd edition rules are technically fluid enough to allow a Paladin or a positive energy channeller to worship Wee Jas, but it does remove a lot of flavor from the deity.

Was the adventure "Doomgrinder" GH cannon? I found it rather dissapointing.

Not actually owning "Doomgrinder" myself I was wondering if any of you would like to share what it says about the cult. If thats legal that is...:)

Actually that is part of the reason he was put in a little hole in the wall town like DL. There is a kind of retarded child approach to how they treat him. Good role playing stuff, and a reason to get the hell out of the town.

IIRC Steve Miller created the cult of the Green Lady just for The Doomgrinder, and purposefully left it enigmatic as to whether or not they actually have any divine backing or were just a bunch of self-deceived people. There probably isn't any more "official" information out there about the cult.

Now that it is written about, Mr Mona, could you give us something untill the main overload comes out. Thank you.

I'm slowly catching up on Greyhawk (it's been a while since I've used it)... and I don't have the Doomgrinder module. So, I'm curious: this Cult of the Green Lady has a focus on worship of Wee Jas, right? Since she's a long-time goddess of Greyhawk, why would it be considered a "cult" instead of a church?

Is there something in Doomgrinder (or another 2nd ed. source) that says this "cult" operates with a minor sort of heresy (like, "green lady" instead of "ruby goddess") or a specific regional dogma? Or is it a "cult" because this particular region of Greyhawk more follows the worship of Boccob, and these local Wee Jas priests don't have enough of a following to fund a building? Curious, curious!

There's probably not as much on the Cult of the Green Lady in Overload than you're hoping, but I will cut and paste what _is_ there below:

Far less welcoming are the brooding inhabitants of the Cairn of the Green Lady, a reclaimed tomb on the opposite shore of Diamond Lake itself. Cloaked in robes of verdigris and quick to threaten outsiders, these two-score devotees of the death goddess Wee Jas honor a fallen saint of that deity with mournful prayers to departed spirits and mysterious explorations of the hills nearby. They base themselves in the tomb of this departed servant of the Dark-Eyed Lady, whom they believe died during a great migration of humans across the treacherous hills more than a thousand years ago. Diamond Lake’s Governor-Mayor Lanod Neff trusts the cultists only because they protect the town’s boneyard from the sinister attentions of the community’s most depraved residents. The order’s leader, the enchanting Amariss (LN female human cleric 6), is always on the lookout for new recruits.

Actually, I think that's just about what I needed. Awesome!

You can always tell when it is Erik who writes something ;-)

Seriously, after Whispering Cairn I thought about starting a thread labelled, "Words I learned from Erik." Some of them don't show up in Dictionary.com and I had to find my way to a religious dictionary site in one case...

Sometimes, those are the best kind. :)

I guess the issue then is whether there's much more information to come later on about the Cult of the Green Lady.

If not then I expect we're safe to assume that this is a relatively mainstream Jasidan group -- albeit one venerating a fallen saint. That said, I suspect that a deity of vanity & law, and the priests who serve her, may have a dim view of such heterodox practices! :)

Lastly, if people are looking for more flavour for Wee Jas, I've long been a fan of Nathan Irving's "The Lady of Book and Bone" article in OJ7. It's 2ed so the crunchy bits need converting but the fluffs good; I've a mild dislike of of the speciality class as presented, so I reworked a version for 3ed, but for people after more flavour for Wee Jas I think it's a pretty good source.

Thanks Erik! I can't resist asking another question, though: would you say that the "Green Lady" refers to the saint of Wee Jas (buried in the cairn), or does it refer to Wee Jas herself? I'm betting on the former. :-)
