Do what you will with the Hungry Gar. I'm 98% certain it won't play an important role of any sort in upcoming adventures. There's no missing story or anything. But there always could be; if that one sentance gets DMs thinking and creating complex backgrounds for the Hungry Gar... that one sentence did its job.
