We have not yet received ours, so chances are it will be late next week at the earliest.
--Erik
Ok, this is my first issue via subscription, and I actually assumed it would take a good five business days from shipdate, but I didn't really know. Can't wait to read the first adventure of this path. I'm DMing for the girlfriend and kids, they've never played before, and it's the first time I've played since the late 80s. I'm hoping to build some cardstock terrain models based on the maps, and wanted to get as much time on it before the kids got off for summer.
Since you haven't received one yet, I'm assuming it hasn't printed yet, or has only just printed? I thought I read that it shipped on the 17th. Was it that it was sent to the printers on the 17th? How long does it usually take from the ship date to arrive?

I'm in South Carolina and, except for last month's Dungeon (which I've heard shipped late) it usually comes about ten days after the shipping date.
If I can ask this here, when is a good time (and I know RIGHT NOW is the knee-jerk reaction) to renew my subscriptions so that there's no lapse? A month? Two months?

We print the mailing labels for each issue 2 weeks in advance of the issue's ship date. So you want to be early.
Renewing your subscription when you get your second-to-last issue would be a good start.
Another good time to do it is on the ship date of your last issue. Too much later than that, and you risk skipping an issue between subscriptions.

It's the 24th, and it has not arrived in Oklahoma yet. It usually takes about two weeks to get it here.
When I was in South America, issues would arrive out of order, several months late. and that was when there were only 6 issues a year. So I don't mind 2 weeks. I've heard that Wil Save alone causes a 5 day delay because it is so horrible that the postal service has to don protective gear to handle magazines that it is included in. They say that for now they are thankful that Wil Save has been included in only a single publication because that limits the number of postal facilities that need to be steam cleaned each month.
Hopefully that will hold you over until the magazine arrives.

Hey, I like Wil Save. Sure it's low content, but it's Wesley Crusher...writing for a D&D magazine! How cool is that?

Got mine on wednesday. my only pet peeve is that they cut out parts of the campaign workbook such as the cast and the journey. a sign of things to come?
Not really. The Campaign Workbook section was always intended to be modular. When stuff runs long, we can take out one or two installments to make room for the adventures. We'll try to have at least 2 of them per issue, and we'll usually have 4-5 of them in the near future (with Critical Threats making up the 5th component), but the first and formost priority for the magazine is and always will be the adventures.

Which is a good thing. The adventures in #123 seemed kinda stripped down to me, I realize it was 4 adventures instead of 3 but I think it created some problems.
Kudos to you guys for bumping the page count on #124, altogether I think its my favorite issue since I started subscribing to Dungeon.

Man, still no magazine. Is there anyone else in texas that hasn't gotten theirs yet? I hate to gripe, but it's been over a week since someone in Waco said they got theirs. Just when should I consider it AWOL/MIA? I mean, the newstand date is just a few days away.
I'm in Texas, and I got mine a week ago (although normally it takes two weeks + after the ship date to get mine).

Has anyone picked up a copy of #124 in Atlanta, GA or somewhere nearby? Please, I'm desperate... I've got two groups demanding to play this weekend, and the module has not arrived anywhere in GA, as far as I can tell. If you have, please post where you found it!
I got mine on Tuesday, here in Knoxville, TN, just a little north of you.

I griped too soon, doh. It showed up this morning. Argh, the cruel irony. I have a full day's work ahead of me on my house before I get a chance to sit down and read. Can't wait though :P

The Whispering Cairn is great, and was well worth the wait. Thanks Erik, for an incredible adventure to introduce my children to D&D. I see Will introduces his kid to D&D in his article, too. Good to see D&D being passed from one generation to the next, and used to bond.
Anyway, I think the adventure is absolutely great, and I like the development sections for pushing the story along if the characters don't figure it out for themselves. Hopefully there will be hours of fun ahead this month, and that I'll only have to fudge a medium amount not to kill all the party ;P

The Whispering Cairn reminded me strongly of The Mud Sorceror's Tomb. Except it had better feel and a much stronger setting and more believable dungeon.
And yes: except The Mud Sorceror's Tomb was not as good as The Whispering Cairn. Bravo Eric.
I don't know how well the Age of Worms will turn out. It may be great - it may not be; however, what is clear from Dungeon #124 is that if things go off the rails it won't be because of a poor beginning.
This was a really great read. I eagerly await the next installment.

I just ran a group of friends through most of Part One on Saturday and we all had fun with it. We got off to a slow start because several players were new and there was some character work we had to finish first, but we played for eleven hours (including breaks) and they only had a few more areas to clear before moving on to Part Two.
I'm still learning my way around DMing, and it was interesting seeing how some of the choices players made while investigating didn't fit what I thought they'd do or even imagined that they might. The session was a one-off, so I'm disappointed we won't be picking up where they left off. Overall the players and myself really enjoyed what we played of it, so kudos to Dungeon for a great job! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the story unfold.
I'm starting a new group next month and planning to run them through the Shackled City hardcover, and will probably wait for the collected Age of Worms edition before picking back up on that one. As much as I enjoyed the first AoW adventure, I'd rather wait for the expanded version. I've been really impressed by the amount of feedback discussion that's gone on for the Shackled City hardcover and am really looking forward to getting my hands on it.

This is getting annoying. My copy shipped 20 days ago and isn't here yet!!! (I live in Kansas City, MO) Some of the guys in my group got theirs about a week and a half ago. What gives??? Guess I will have to break down and and pay 7 bucks at the bookstore for something I should have already had...<grumble>
