James,
We were excited to hear about the release of your epic level adventure, The Quicksilver Hourglass. We were even more blown away to find out the module is geared for characters as high as 30th level. Have you considered a sequel for The Lich-Queen's Beloved? It would more than likely have to be an epic level adventure, but I am sure you would get enough fan following to justify it's creation. Keep up the great work.

Mmmmm.....Githyanki....
Though with the death of the Lich Queen (if the PCs pull it off) what could you possibly follow it up with?
The Return of Gith!
A confrontation between the Githyanki and the Githzerai. It's been coming for a while now, and I think that too much of the conflict between the two races has been diluted through a non-related story (ie: the Githzerai simply interveining to stop a Githyanki plot).
We need action. With the Lich Queen dead, me thinks that all that god-power has gotta go somewhere...like the rebirth of the man who started it all!
Though i think there was once a module with a reborn Gith in it (for planescape?) though I never got to read it nor play it.

Githyanki are cool. They'll be the focus of an adventure in issue #125, actually, but it's not a sequel to "Lich Queen."
The plan is to do one epic-level adventure per year. If "Quicksilver Hourglass" gets a huge reception, we might do more, but we'll do our best to not do less than one a year. An epic level sequel to "Lich Queen" or an epic level sequel to the Adventure Path are certainly not impossible, althoguh I think I'd probably rather have an entirely new epic plotline.
Anyway, for those of you out there who want to send in epic level adventure proposals... we don't have one set up yet for 2006. (hint hint)

James,
Thanks for responding to my post. I hope that Quicksilver Hourglass is a huge hit for you and helps generate more epic level adventures into your magazine. I am sure there are lot of people with campaigns out there that would like to continue their adventures beyond 20th level, but because of the lack of epic level adventures and material, they can't. I personally don't have as much time to create my own adventures, so I have to lean a lot on the creativity of you and your staff at Dungeon Magazine.
I have been buying Dungeon Magazine for over 10 years and it keeps getting better and better. Keep up the great work!

Well, the problem is, if you've played the adventure, it is totally deadly to groups of less than 22nd level. No group of lower level than that can survive the battle with the Lich Queen.
A group of three totally amped PCs, one 25 (Ranger 15/Ftr 4/Divine Champion 2/Dervish 4th, two 23 (Wizard/Incantatrix), and Ranger 5/DragonSlayer 8/Dragonstalker 7 Half-Dragon, their cohorts, a 17th level cleric/loremaster, and a Faerie Dragon Rog 2/Sorcerer 8, took this adventure on.
They almost all died numerous times, and they were highly optimized. The adventure killed the cleric cohort AND the Half-Dragon.
Only revivify and other post adventure design spells saved their butts, plus excessive use of Antimagic Field and the right feats. Don't kid yourselves. The scale for the adventure is way off. Once the lich queen is alerted to the PC's presence and she uses the Scepter to Gate a dragon of that size and power, (A CR 24 creature itself, which is ACTUALLY a 27, because Dragons are -3) Keep in mind, this group had a CHARACTER SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO KILL DRAGONS WITH IT. And they STILL got owned.
Epic is about the scale. Not about the CRs. If you enjoy playing characters at that level, consider that the PC's might gain one level a year. You'll find that minion level foes don't need to be as tough to deal out damage, and that even characters which by the numbers shouldn't hurt the party can cause comparatively huge problems.
Plus, ANYTHING that can cast Mordenkainen's Disjunction is a major hosejob.
