Sealed Sections in Dungeon (sealing RPGA Adventures)

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

A few months back, Dungeon had a sealed section/adventure that contained mature content. That's cool, and it makes sense.

Now Dungeon is containing RPGA adventures. Would it be possible to seal RPGA adventures in a similar manner? Does anyone else think that adventures (such as Mad God's Key--a HUGE Living Greyhawk character springboard) that can be used in the RPGA should be sealed?

I am told by others that just because I own a copy of the issue with MG'sK in it, doesn't mean I am forbidden from being a player in such an RPGA game, but it can be rather shady to have access to it and be a player.

the sealed sections with the mature content were hotly debated on multiple message boards.

some liked the idea of including mature content.

some did not.

but from both sides.... many did not like the idea of sealed pages... it caused damage to the magazine's other contents. and was an added expense for the producer (paizo)

I don't think sealing the adventure matters. although, butting RPGA style certs, that the DM could copy and hand out to players would be nice. After playing a few sessions with the RPGA, the cert card for magic items is something I have transfered to my game. Currently my Certs are just 3x5 index cards with different color edges and the item description written on them. RPGA style Certs would be nice, but they need not be useable with the RPGA, those should still be obtained in the regular way so as not to cause any chaos with the RPGA system...Is it still current? I played Living FR for a while, but found it had to many magical items and that the adventures usually turned into PCs solving all situations with their Deck of Certs. Living GH seemed better, but I thought that I heard that it had died.

If you're a weenie who's going to read the adventure before playing it, then sealed pages aren't really going to stop you so why should Dungeon bother?

I certainly hope *not*. That caused no small amount of disaster (yeah, a bit of hyperbole there) when unsealing it - it ended up ugly and somewhat tattered... the utility was quickly decreased.

And there's probably an additional cost in sealing sections of the magazine - a cost with very little benefit.

No more sealed sections on my watch.

Cutting the thing open was a pain in the butt.

I agree! I would love to see the RPGA style certs, especially ones the DM could modify. I actually run a monthly get-together, use Dungeon adventures and make up certs for my tables. It would be great to have a cert already done that I just need to modify if needed.

Thanks Erik! I agree, no more sealed sections. However, I would also like to see more mature content in the magazine. Granted, many adults with children who game may disapprove, and I wouldn't want you to alienate part of your audience - especially when you need to be expanding your audience. Mayhaps, as a halfway point, Paizo could start to publish, available for download, mature content adventures for minimal cost. ??

Thank you Erik. The one was annoying enough.

Hey all. I have made RPGA style certs and we are testing out an unofficial forum in Nyrond of the Living Greyhawk. We have a generic one created since we launched Eberron into the usual LA Game Day venue with great success. I would be happy to offer our template to those who need it. We have it in excel and PDF. tonyg1717 at yahoo dot com.

Although it seems like players are somehow more likely to cheat by having adventures in DUngeon, they're no more likely than under the current system where you can just order them yourself anyway. The sealed section is a neat idea though..but agreed that it just made for ugly pages and a lot of work cutting it open.

As for certs, I think it's a cool idea and actually a GREAT WAY FOR DUNGEON TO ADVERTISE. As I've noted in other posts, most players are discouraged by their DM about knowing which adventure they're playing..even though it's cooler to be able to say, "Yea, I remember that adventure..we kicked the kobold/half-jermalaine's butts!"
