Excellent closings from the both of you. I'll just let everyone assume G settles in at the bar and gets too trashed to stand up the next day. That and he's bitter about his sword still sitting in the basement of Thistletop. :) Long - hope everything's okay with you; really sorry this didn't work out as planned. I would also totally take another shot at it if given the opportunity. It's been a lot of fun. Rob - DW - see you guys around, I hope... One way or another!

Well, I didn't mean it in that sense, Thunder... G isn't "carrying" anything in the game - he'd be proper f@~$ed without the others! I meant in terms of the narrative. I'm interested in these four characters and would like to see what happens to them and how they behave. That doesn't happen if it's just Riatin and myself going back and forth as G opens doors and stuff. Reactions, side notes, distracted conversations - they all make the story more interesting and give the characters something to work off of. It's even more important when we're not in the more tactical "dungeon" mode, since the only thing of importance going on (like in the meeting that's happening right now) is conversation between characters. That's what I meant - I agree G is the best guy to open doors, but once through it, he's SUPER glad Hiero's there to beat on things, too. :)

Hey there... Riatin, Ru just told me you're not coming to GenCon! I totally thought you'd be here - was looking forward to chatting with you. No Mori this year either - guess it's just Ru, Bones and myself at the IC reunion. My thoughts: 1. I'm really interested in seeing this campaign through... I have a wee bit of spoilery knowledge from other games that use the Rise of the Runelords story, and would love to see both the things that I kinda, sorta know and all the stuff beyond it that I have no idea about. 2. More frequent posts would help - originally the idea was a post per day, and while that may not always be realistic, being in the habit of posting more often causes you to think about posting more often and it becomes self-reinforcing. Even if your character doesn't have anything to contribute, a short post of a thought or incidental action helps. 3. The thing that causes me to not want to post is feeling like I'm carrying the group. If it's just me and the GM, it's not as much fun. I'm in the unique situation of knowing everyone (currently) playing (only Rob not in RL), and my enjoyment of the game comes more from seeing my friends being engaged and enjoying it than myself. 4. That said, if you're not interested in posting or can't fit it in, I'd rather you said so and back out for someone that will be more active than make a half-hearted attempt to do something you're not terribly into to make the rest of us happy. (I don't know how Riatin feels about that, though.) The main thing to me goes back to what Riatin said when he originally was trying to put this group together, which is that the RotR adventure path is one that he's wanted to GM for a long time and he thought this would be a good format. I know how seriously he takes his groups and I think he's done a fantastic job so far and I want this to succeed because I know how much work he's put into it. So... G is gonna post real quick, then I'm going to enjoy GenCon for the rest of the weekend and catch up again when I'm back home. I hope we all land on the same page next week. I know you all have other ways of contacting me - if you want to , please do! -JR

We're only adding one - the other two are being held for their forever-owner until they're back from vacation. Only another week. I'll be very sad when I can't do this anymore. So the grey one is ours and her name is Ripley. The other two don't have names but Jen and I have been calling them Jonesy and Bowie. That dry desert air is nice, I'll give it that. Glad you had fun!

Holy s+$* - those high-level encounters are nuts compared to what we've seen so far. :o That's pretty awesome, man... Reminds me of how when I was young and didn't have anyone to play with, I'd roll characters (mostly for Shadowrun) and envision scenarios that never got played at all, but I had fun creating them. I hope yours get played - you've put a lot of good work into the stuff that's up there!
Male Human Gamer / 16
Hm - I'd always had you pegged for a young'un, Thunder... Even acknowledging that your "guild faces" picture could be several years old, you have a youthful vigor. ;] Happy belated! And I hope that vigor carries over to your character, because he's pretty much on his own for the moment. o_O

Just it of curiosity regarding the description of the statue and beasts, if Hieronymous were to describe in detail what he sees, would others be able to make knowledge checks? Perhaps of a higher DC? Just wondering from a rules perspective. This also seems like an appropriate time to ask: as long as we're keeping character knowledge and player knowledge separate in our minds, is it okay if we read others' spoiler text or would you as DM prefer all that kept actually secret?

What Long said... I actually still think of myself as "playing" although I've been too busy to actually log in for like a month, but I'd like to level my priest still. The WoD content is fun. But I was also hoping that the raiding situation would be a bit more egalitarian these days and found that not to be the case. And the people who are in the raids seem even less active at other times than before... Part of it is scheduling and my own busy-ness, I acknowledge that. But it seems that IC is less a casual raiding guild now than a social group with a hardcore segment and a casual segment. That's not what I came back to WoW for. We'll see what happens - as I said, I'll be back on at some point to see new stuff and do things with my priest, but I don't know when. But not today - it's International Tabletop Day! Woohooo! Ithri and I will be playing a bunch of games this afternoon/evening with other friends - Tokaido and Dead of Winter, for sure. We'll see what else shakes out.

FYI, I marked up a copy of the map with some notes about doors we skipped... Not sure if we'll want to/get to get back to them, but we may. The map is here. For example, we might want to check those doors that lead to the empty space between the entry hall and the throne room - they seem like potential storage rooms or something. We didn't even look at them before, so we don't know if they're locked or anything. Speak up if you want to do something other than forging on ahead. ;)

Thunder: Just to clarify Riatin's comment re: criticals... You roll your attack: Pretend Attack: 1d20 + 6 => (20) + 6 = 26 And that attack comes with its normal damage - in the case of your spear: Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 Once you've previewed your roll and see that it is in fact a 20, then you edit to include the critical confirmation: Pretend Confirmation: 1d20 + 6 => (15) + 6 = 21 As long as it hits, since the critical damage on that spear is "x3," you roll damage two more times to be added to your first roll: Crit Damage 1: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
So in this case, your total damage (from an impressive range of 21-42) is an amazing 37, which would probably one-hit most guys we're facing right now and definitely cause a Fort save against dropping dead of shock. I wanted to clarify that for the benefit of all, as well as to confirm that I've got it straight, myself. Do correct me if I've erred, Riatin!

Yeah, that's what I thought, but the thing in d20pfsrd says "...break away so they may act freely as a Standard Action" - I guess that's referring to on subsequent turns. And to reply to your AC question without cluttering up the gameplay: HL is telling me 18: 10+5(armor)+2(shield)+2(DEX)+1(Ring of Prot)-2(rage)=18 Edit2: Redacted. Deflection = Ring of Protection. Updated AC math to reflect that. So it's 18 for sure (unless you're tracking a negative condition I've forgotten!). Edit: FWIW, I just updated G's character profile to include a permanent link to my HL porfolio. It's also got Ithri and Zaf.
Male Human Gamer / 16
Nice to see you back, Long! I saw you hadn't been in WoW for three days and was honestly just about to start asking around if anyone had heard from you! Hope all is well. Hey, not that I don't trust you as GM, but I'm just curious if a double-check is in order: +8 seems like an awfully high attack bonus considering the warchanter is asleep and Ripnugget's Shaken. Is that right? G's got plenty of health, and this whole thing has turned out so far to be easier than expected, so NBW - I just want to be sure all the various conditions are accounted for. Cheerio!

I love the PBF format, but do think the spontaneity of the tabletop game is lost. Maybe someday when we're starting an encounter we should say "hey, lets do a Google hangout for an hour and actually talk to each other while we post for a fight!" I think that might be fun.
Male Human Gamer / 16
Quick rules question, Riatin: You can't perform "any kind of movement" and take a 5-foot step in the same turn. The Barbarian's Intimidating Glare rage power counts "as a move action" but I would argue it's not movement, itself. Should G be able to 5-foot step and use Intimidating Glare in the same turn? I erred on the side of caution in my last post, but I'm sure it will come up again. :)

FYI to the gang - Lone Wolf is having a sale on data bundles for Hero Lab... The app itself is still the regular price ($30 to install on two devices) but the supplements are on a pretty decent sale... I already had some of the player's companion stuff, but today added the Adventurer's Bundle and the GM's Library Bundle... Ho-lee crap, that's a lot of data. Good times. :)
Male Human Gamer / 16
Yeah, Riatin - it's Nuala (I think someone is a Neil Gaiman fan). Zaf's stats should all add up - we just went through his character after the last level and I made sure my HeroLab file was updated for him. It remains here on a permanent basis for reference. All the validation checks out - it's got G, Zaf, Ithri and Nuala. Everyone does need to check their character profile to update their quickstats button and stuff, though.
Male Human Gamer / 16
FYI, Garrok picked up during his shopping trip this morning: Masterwork Backpack - 50g
Zaf's rope has come in so handy, I thought it would be nice to have an alternate for getting a good, firm bind on something that's not dead. Just in case. He now sits at 179gp 3sp 6cp. For the record. :]
Male Human Gamer / 16
Hieronymous Strong wrote: Ok, so I say we sell the Ranseur, the handaxe, the Scroll of Flaming Sphere, the Wand of Shocking grasp and the Bottle of Wine. Yup, that's what I had on my list, too. That's 806gp, if we're going three ways, that's 269 for Hiero and Zaf - G will take 268.
Male Human Gamer / 16
That's also what I think, but they're pretty tight-lipped right now... Makes deciding what to do tough. =\ Re: the magic stuff... 2 of 3 of those things are sorcerer/wizard only (these loot drops are like Molten Core all over again! :P)... Burning Hands is a witch spell - we could hang on to that one, ostensibly for Kat, but give it to another witch who may happen upon us in the course of events. :)
Male Human Gamer / 16
That's cool, thanks - there's a Masterwork Ranseur in there as well... I bet it looks badass, but TBH G probably won't use it - he's more a sword-and-board sort of fighter, I think. The damage and "Reach" looked good until I saw that Reach means you can't attack an adjacent creature. I like the 5-ft step and all, but really... :] Gonna let this sit for a while, give anyone else a chance to chime in on those weapons... Also, if anyone picked up anything else, to sell, unload it and we'll divvy up all the scratch at the Dragon! Oh, and Riatin - G meant to ask Savah something else... I can't edit that post any more, but if Savah has come across anything new and pretty in the day they spent in the tunnels, G would enjoy seeing it. ;)
Male Human Gamer / 16
This feels more min/max-y than a more story-driven choice I would have preferred, but this in-game day sucked, so instead, G's feat will be to generate Extra Rage. Oh, and a side note to our players: We should all now have 3 Hero Points, which is the maximum you can have, so we should start using them - at least once before the next time we level. :)
Male Human Gamer / 16
Oh! I read that as "damage that doesn't kill the target" - but of course, "nonlethal damage" means something specific. Hrm - I was going to stick with it, assuming I could do nonlethal damage with a normal weapon, but I see the attack roll is -4 if you do that... Bugger. Thanks for pointing that out. I might go back to my original idea of Combat Reflexes, or choose something else.
Male Human Gamer / 16
Hey! That's right! Thanks, Thunder (and Riatin for your generous house rule)... That 2 was really annoying me. Hopefully a second roll will fare better. Second roll for G and the witch: 1d12 ⇒ 8
Better. We'll be taking those. G continues to work on being as frightening as possible in battle, and so will be taking the Enforcer feat. Improved skills include Handle Animal, Intimidate, Knowledge: Local, Perception and Survival. At lv 3 he also naturally gains +1 on rolls vs. traps. Thunder... I'm pretty sure there are mobs in Diablo 3 that do the Shard Explosion thing, heh... The way it's written, I assume that hits friendlies as well, yes? Methinks G will be standing well away from you from now on. :P
Male Human Gamer / 16
Yeah, actually, I get all that now - the difference between stored and prepared and the spell limit per day... In HL, it just doesn't look like at level 3 a witch can actually prepare any level 3 spells, which I suppose is possible, just strange. Why learn 2 level 3 spells at level 3 when you can' prepare them until level 5? OH- OOHHHHH... Not even gonna edit that for effect, I think dawn just broke on Marble Head: they're not talking about player level, they're talking about spell level - so the character doesn't get 2 level three spells at level 3, they get them at level 5, when spell level 3 opens up. HA! HA HAAAAA!!! So at level 4, she won't automatically learn anything new, she just has to keep looking for level 2 spell scrolls to feed her raven. Then at 5 she automatically gains 2 level 3 spells, etc. etc... Oh, man - I'm gonna sleep well tonight. There's a weight off my mind. :)
Male Human Gamer / 16
You bet, Riatin - I was thinking the same thing (generally speaking I'm trying to ignore the stuff from the more esoteric supplements). Plus with his crappy HD roll, G was gonna take the +1HP anyway, as tempting as an extra round of Rage is. Sorry to make you do more homework - I assumed you were as knowledgeable on the class as Kat (or nearly - she knows everything)... I found a thread on the topic and consensus seemed to be "All 0s, 3+Int 1s, then 2 of every level." This post in particular was useful. Of course, now HeroLab is getting in the way - its saying 4x0, 3x1, 2x2, and no lv 3s. I can add lv 3 stuff to her familiar, but if I add it to her prepared spell list, I get validation errors. I wonder if there's a campaign setting I need to flag? I'll keep working on it. Thanks for the help. Oh, and do the characters know exactly what that dagger is after Kat's spell? Because I googled it, and, holy s$!&.
Male Human Gamer / 16
I found a bit more info on the witch stuff - I don't think you get the +Int on levels past 1; I think it's just a flat 2 spells/level automatically. Anyway, we're square there. Leveling up question: at Lv 3, HL starts offering alternate Favored Class bonuses (these are also listed on the class pages at d20pfsrd). Can we take those, or do you want to stick to +1SP/HP?
Male Human Gamer / 16
Okay, I have to know - now that it's dead - Garrok's coup de gras would have done Warhammer auto-crit (enlarged): 6d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 6, 5, 2) + 12 = 34 ... would THAT have killed her? Because seriously, she had some nasty damage mitigation or crazy HP or SOMETHING going on. I appreciate the fast-forward, though... I knew the sailor's knots would save the day. :) So at level 3 then, how many lv 1/2/3 spells go into Lauren's familiar? We still haven't worked that out. Thanks for the advice.
