There seems to be a marked increase of closed threads under the guise of “this thread is no longer productive, feel free to try again”. Well, those posting in the thread obviously feel it has merits or they wouldn’t be doing it. I understand shutting down a thread that has devolved into acerbic name calling, bullying etc, but it feels to me like Paizo is increasingly trying to steer the conversation. Their boards, their rules, fine. But it seems disingenuous to put out a play test, which many have paid for, ask for input and then actively shut down some of the discourse on the product you claim to want feedback on. I think it would be great if board users could decide what topics are worthwhile of discussion and not have an active topic closed because of reasons.
PFS is imploding in my area. Prior to 5E we had a vibrant community with 5 or so stores running games multiple times a month. After 5E was released the playerbase was halved but still many options to play, maybe not as many tables available but still a good core. Currently, the playerbase which was further fragmented with the introduction of core and Starfinder is rapidly dissolving with the introduction of the 2E playtest. What has the experience been in your area? I am not hopeful for PFSs long term viability at least in my neck of the woods.
My pfs Druid just completed lvl 11. I would like to continue to play him in some seeker lvl scenarios, but his power curve is definitely srtarting to flatten out.
OP asks, as has been done here, what problem is 2E trying to solve. Many people seem to feel that the answer is that 5E is exponentially outselling PF. Paizos response is resulting in working at cross purposes to itself. Dumb down the game enough to reduce barriers to entry while retaining enough crunch to not alienate their e siting base. It’s any interesting read https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder_RPG/comments/9ftkix/what_problem_is_2nd _edition_actually_solving/
Curious what you guys did for the last encounter. As written the last boss is quite different than the listing in theBestiary. Same CR but different feats and abilities. In reading through some PbP of this module it looked like at least one group ran his with the monster from the bestiary instead of the one in the book.
As a GM I have always had the player clarify their saves. For example the player says“is it versus fear?” or “I rolled an 18 or 20 if it’s a sonic affect”. I’ve always felt the players can make reasonable inferences from the encounter or the creature they’re fighting and give me the pertinent information on any bonuses their character may have versus my attack or spell I was running an encounter today where a character was bit by a Linnorm and was asked to make a fort save. He gave me the result and I informed him that he was poisoned. His character has a plus versus poison and he felt I should have told him it was a save versus poison rather than just a fort save. His plus would not have mattered in this case. He was saying the GM should always tell you what you are saving against so that he, the player can make those adjustments himself. I disagreed and told him that I would not debate this in the middle of the game but that we could talk about it afterward. In this case, the players did not know that the Linnorm had a poison attack. Telling him to save versus poison would have given the players k owledge that they dId not possess in game. I would like to hear others opinions as I always want to improve as a GM. .
I am considering a 3d printer to make dungeon tiles, furniture etc. I was curious what are some of the best dungeon crawl scenarios that could be built with dungeon ties within reason. Might be for pfs might not. Thanks for the help. Ps I am aware of emerald spire and that s definitely a possibility.
Hello, getting back into pfs after a long layoff. I have noticed that in info tab under games GMed, the character I applied credit to is indicated, but in each case when I look at individual character sessions, the gym credit game is missing. Was this a reporting problem on my end, my VO? Wondering if there is a way for those sessions to appear correctly at this point.
Seems most of the time when I plug in a new character name I get the error "sorry, this name is already in use in the message boards". Well, i don't care if it's in use in the message boards nor do I want to use it there. I just want to name my character what I want to. Each character is already identified by a unique pfs number. ####-##. I don't see why name matters.
I am not claiming the sky is falling but locally I have seen a decline in the number of people signing up for games. Pre 5e I rarely saw games cancelled and for the most part spots would fill up very quickly. Now games are getting canceled fairly regularly due to not enough players and the games that do go will usually have some spots open pretty late in the week. I know this is just what I see anecdotally but was wondering if others are seeing this as well.
I do a lot of driving for work and enjoy listening to podcasts. I know of the excellent Know Direction podcast but also enjoy live play recordings. I have just finished the Strand Gamers Kingmaker campaign and really enjoyed it and am looking for others to try. I know there have been other topics on this but I have looked and not found what I am looking for. Decent sound quality, good roleplay and not eating into the mic are all qualities I am looking for. Any suggestions?
I was wondering if colossal or gargantuan creature can charge through spaces with allies? I know it specifically says that you can not charge through spaces occupied by an ally but due to medium size creatures being able to occupy the same space as gargantuan creatures (3 sizes smaller) RAI would seem to indicate that creatures that much smaller would not impede movement.
We are supposed to be starting this AP soon. I am having a hard time getting motivated for it. I have not read spoilers but I guess I am just not that into pirates. The high amount of skill check mechanics and ship v ship combat just don't sound exciting to me. Should I go for it? Any others have these feelings going in and end up enjoying the AP?
I am playing in a homebrew campaign. The DM is applying templates so we are not up against regular bads out of the Beastiary. My character is optimized at 12th level to have a very high DC on her spells. My level 6 spells have a DC of 25. We just fought and almost TPKd to a group of 4 bad guys with +17 to all of their saves. This means my strongest spells had a 65% of their target making the save, and it gets worse with lower level spells. For a level appropriate encounter, how much should one expect their enemies to make their saves? This is my first higher level campaign so I don't know what to expect. The DM said these were CR10 creatures but when I look at the Beastiary, ignoring other abilities +17 on all saves would be more typical of a CR15 creature. Those would normally have at least one bad save. My feeling is that the DM is sick of the two powerful casters in the group so just gave everyone a blanket +5 to all of their saves
After a long absence from gaming I have started playing PF for the past year and am really enjoying it. I have decided to give GMing a go for our group when the current campaign wraps up, within the next couple of months. I had thrown out the idea of Way of the Wicked and the group seemed excited about it. It looks to present an engaging story within a framework that seems to try and prevent the "I backstab my Cleric" situations I remember from my junior high evil campaigns. So I had pretty much decided on WotW until I received my hardback anniversary copy of RotRL and started reading that. It seems like a great AP and now I am really torn between which to run. I obviously want an AP that will be fun for both myself and the players. If one is drastically more complex than the other I would probably avoid that since i have not GMed since the mid 80s(gasp!).
I am toying around with the idea of purchasing a fair bit of the dwarven forge game tiles. Also will be joining their new kickstarter for the cavern tiles. I was wondering if their is an AP that lends itself to using this type of 3D terrain over the others. The only AP I have played is Kingmaker and it had quite a bit of outdoor adventuring. I am looking for something with a fair bit of dungeon crawling.
I am interested in the prehensile hair hex for a witch and have a few questions. The fight starts and I use prehensile hair which has a 10ft reach so any enemy attempting to close with me to attack without reach himself will provoke an AoO from me. As an AoO I use a combat manuever and attempt to grapple the attacker. First, if I am successful, is he grappled in the 10ft away square from me and unable to attack me (assuming no reach)? Also, if I grapple as an AoO without the Improved Grapple feat this would normally provoke an AoO back, but if it is occurring 10ft away the enemy can not reach me to attack. Is this correct?
I am playing a witch in a hombrew campaign. After the first couple of sessions the bad guys have been on a tear making their saves against my hexes. While they should be making their saves about 30% of the time they are making them about 2/3 of the time now. Over a short time dice can get hot but I am talking about many sessions with multiple combats each with me throwing out hexes more rounds than not. Possible but highly unlikely to be that lucky for that long. I should note that the rolls are behind a screen. I recognize that that the witch can be a powerful class. I asked the GM if he was uncomfortable with the witch mechanics and would prefer me to switch classes. He told me that it was fine. Here's the problem. Every time a save is made now I am questioning whether he actually made it or the GM fudged it to balance the fight. It takes a lot of the fun out of it for me. Would it be out of line to ask the GM to roll where we all can see? I respect his right to balance the fight but changing rolls seems like a poor way to go about it.
I have a PFS Druid that just hit level 7. She is a Saurian Shaman Druid who typically melees in wildshape. I am committed to going Druid through level 8 so that I can get the Strongjaw spell. I would get level 5 spells at level 9 but other than Animal Growth For my companion I don't see a lot on the spell list that excites me. I tend not to use summoning spells as between my character and an animal companion both with multiple natural attacks I feel I get more than enough spotlight time at the table. I was considering a dip into Barbarian to get rage and rage powers. Any advice would be appreciated.
Having trouble figuring out how much it costs to put Wild on some magic armor. I know in order to have a special ability, armor must have a minimum enhancement of +1. That's 1000gp. The Wild enchant is priced as a +3 enchant, or 9000gp. So is it 10,000 gp(1000+9000) or is it considered a total of a +4 (1+3) item which is 16,000gp?
Do all PFS character names have to be unique across the PFS universe? Maybe I am not understanding the difference between Character name and full name when you register a new character but when I put in my character name it says it is in use by another avatar. Now I dont intend to be posting in the forums with this name, I just want to use it for a character name. So I guess what I am asking is if someone has a character name Joe, no one anywhere ever can not have a character named Joe? Seems counter intuitive to me.
I have velociraptor animal companion with weapon focus (talon) (+1 to hit), and weapon finesse (add dex mod to attack roll). I calculate the talon attack, which is a primary attack, to be (dex +3)+(BAB +2)+(weapon finesse +1)=+6. The bite, which is also a primary attack, I calculate should be at +5 without the weapon focus. Hero Lab is calculating the bonuses at +5 and +4 respectively so I am wondering what minus I am missing here. Was just speculating that the small size of the raptor might give a minus 1 to hit but cant confirm that in the rules anywhere. Since none of the attacks are considered secondary attacks I'm clueless as to what I am missing. Hero Lab is confirming all of the modifiers individually, they are just not adding up right.
I am confused as to how wild shape works as a saurian druid. The book says that at 6th level, a wild shape of anything but a dinosaur will function at druid level -2 but a dinosaur will function at druid level +2. I read this to mean that a saurian druid can use wild shape to turn into a large size dinosaur at an earlier level, but will be limited to a small/ med non dinosaur for longer than normal. I just leveled my saurian druid to level 2. Hero Lab is now telling me I can now wild shape into a dinosaur once a day. Very confused here.
At first level knife specialist gimps your damage. For sneak attacks a knife specialist rogue wielding a d4 weapon and a regular rogue with a d6 weapon will average the same amount of damage. TWF is assumed. All non sneak attacks and sneak attacks without a dagger for the knife specialist will be less than the regular rogue due to the d4 sneak attack damage or that they are wielding a d4 weapon. Am I right in guessing that as the knife specialist rogue levels up and gains additional d8 sneak attack damage with daggers this outweighs the less damage dealt by non sneak attacks and attack with a non dagger type weapon? New player here.
Do I record only purchases made of items found in the session on the log, or any purchases I made in between sessions? e.g. I want to purchase a wand with the 2 PP I earned as well as a scroll. Would these items be recorded on the session log and if not how are these purchases accounted for. Thanks in advance for the help. |
