I'm late to the game here, but you don't have to be! Join us in the Twin Cities of Minnesota Sept 26-28 for some Pathfinder and Starfinder games for charity!

Most games are posted and just need some more friends to play with. Plus, a few Starfinder developers volunteered to run some Society and custom games to help fundraise, including Thurston Hillman, Jenny Jarzabski, and Jess Redekop.

Learn more at the SkålCon website, or register directly on Tabletop.events.

I had printed those reporting sheets from the guide, and if you're able to I think they could use some spacing adjustments.

Mainly, there doesn't need to be so much space to write the tier number, but there could definitely be more space to write the character numbers. With new players at 7 numbers, plus 4 for the card game character number, it can need a lot of room with the smaller height available.

In addition, shifting over the top part where you write the scenario name would be nice too. Some of the fields/checkboxes don't need as much space as the more variable entries on the reporting sheet.

We had some questions about this while running a made up combat this weekend.

We assumed that the animal companion was treated like PCs, so started the 'dying' process for an animal companion that took a critical hit that immediately reduced it to 0 hit points.

The rules state that your initiative is moved ahead of the creature that knocked you. Cool. But the animal companion moves on the player's initiative - does that mean the player whose companion gets hurt would move their initiative? Or would there be an exception for companions?

We decided to keep the initiative as is, since the ranger immediately moved and healed their animal companion (as we presumed the goal of moving the initiative would be to give people time to get heals to their friends).

As for treating animal companions like NPCs, I don't think that would be the best idea. This animal companion dropped really quickly for a character that is commonly found in the fray of battle, so it would be a pain to go have to get a new animal companion all of the time with no way to recover one from death.

Perfect! Because this is the first thing that jumped out at me and my friends when we were filling out the character sheets.

Definitely agree that it should be columns of physical and mental.

Blessings Deck/Discard Pile As mentioned, the deck is called the hourglass. The top card of the blessings discard pile is called the "hour" and it seems blessing can have a power related to when they are the hour.

Is the card game now like the show 24? "We only got 30 hours to solve this problem - go go go go go!" "When do we sleep?" "WE DON'T" haha.

I love hearing about the card game stuff! Some of it doesn't seem particularly compatible with the current class decks and such. Would there be enough mix-and-match for the PFSACG in particular to get by? Keyword replacement? Supplemental decks? Or is this a 'start anew' kind of situation?

This will be the exact kind of utility to liven up those first 7 decks. Everyone else had cool cards, now they can have cool cards too!

Usually one of the 4 characters in the early decks wouldn't have quite the right tools. Tarlin has a lack of 2-handed weapons to use, for example. Warrior Vika could take advantage of cards that used the craft skill. And I feel like Darango from the wizard's deck has some potential if some of the early cards are swapped out (I haven't played him since skull and shackles; he had (has?) some survivability issues haha).

I like the idea of having a Cure to add in; I like running with at least 2, for when I inevitably botch the recharge roll. Druid and Inquisitor could benefit from that. I'd also like to see some of the more useful B item cards so we can replace signal whistles / conch shells with them.

Any armors that give options to block damage other than combat are very welcome. Not having that option in MM with the early decks can be quite painful. My alchemist loves that Alchemist's Lab Coat; great for letting those 1 damage attack 'tink' right off you.

It's super sad. YMB is my main gaming store; even with it being a good 30 minutes from me, it had a nice casual feel and lots of good people to play with. Not to mention it was one of the few gaming stores in the area with food! Wherever will we fulfill our ice cream cookie sundae needs? (Exciting fact: Ice cream cookie sundaes and popcorn were just a couple of the items that if one person at the table got one, the rest would soon follow...)

I've had great times playing and organizing there. In addition to all the wonderful stories people have mentioned above (I remember Team Critical Failure, good times), I do recall another time when most of the tables were playing the Blakros Matrimony, the store got all of those tables cake at the appropriate time! That was very cool of them. :)

I wish them all the best on future endeavors, and to keeping their gaming community alive online. We'll miss you, YMB!

I had a great time helping out a Con of the North with the ACG. Seeing a preview of the new Runelords adventure was great! A+ funny titles, would title again. Thanks again for coming to help out at the con, Tonya! :D

I wrote a whole irish drinking song to Cayden Cailean, in case someone wants to hum something for the first part. :3 I've put it in spoiler tags because it is long.

Cayden Cailean Ballad:
To the tune of Generic Irish Drinking Song (similar to 'Lola the Pug' verse pattern).

Oh Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cailean~

One night Cayden was drinkin'
In Absalom's fine bars
With friends and strangers near him
Beneath the shining stars
And then his friend said "Cayden
With strength and wit like thine
A god you should have right to be -
Here have some more fine wine"

Oh Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cailean~

Then Cayden downed his tankard
and wiped up with his sleeve
"My friend is that a dare for me?
Your challenge I receive."
The gathered then at once moved out
To the Test of Starstone
And through the gates with drink aloft
went Cailean alone

Oh Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cailean~

On the morn his friends awoke
Hungover through and through
They looked for their friend Cayden
Then realized what's true
"We've sent him to his death!" they cried
"No other fate for him
For only two before have lived
And neither drunk as sin."

Oh Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cailean~

// slower
His friends, they mourned for three days
So sure that he had died
When suddenly burst from the doors
Cayden Cailean alive!
"Is this real?" he friends did ask.
"Why, do you think it's odd?
// a tempo
Chin up, me lads, the drinks on me
'cause I'm a bloody god!"

Oh Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cailean~

The drinks were poured and tables set
For the festivities
And through it all his friends inquired
to his divinity
How did he pass such trials that night?
"I'm 'fraid I can't recall
The whole three days a hazy blur
account my drunken thrall!"

// with finality
Oh Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cayden Cailean~~~~

If players are curious, they can do a roll perform, local, or religion to determine it's a common Cayden Cailean song, sung poorly. A higher roll recalls the 'chorus' line used to be 'The greatest god that ever lived is Cayden Cailean' but his followers always forgot the words and just stuck with his name.

I had just run this and I think I botched the last talking section. I think it might be better to either ask for a bunch of checks up front and then talk it out, or do part 1 and 2 via conversation and ask for the checks afterwards. Maybe next time? A lot of 'round 3' checks are a little awkward to throw in. Maybe those are better done beforehand while they are investigating, and if they roll high enough they can bring them up? Hmmmm.

My husband and I played the first three B scenarios this weekend. First he played the Shaman and I the Arcanist; the first B scenario went really well. Then he switched to the Hunter (having played the first scenario with her by himself) and we did The Wardstone Patrol. (Side note: I found it really cute how the Adventure B stuff was from PFS.) It wasn't too bad? Except that A) my quest to murder Sir Ilivan failed and B) I died. Dice betrayed me on a combat earlier on, and then I had to take on a creature that was made undead... and was also immune to the backup spell I had. Sadness.

The third adventure went okay - I switched out a few of my spells when I rebuilt to not have as much mental/poison (okay, I kept a Dazzle because I want to keep saying "Give 'em the ol' razzle dazzle" when I play it). Immunities are definitely played up here for spellcasters, which makes sense when fighting demons yet is still annoying.

Overall, I do think this is harder than the other two. I actually have done much S&S outside of the Organized Play, so maybe the game box itself is harder. But I think we still need to get a feel for this one as we play. I know we've already done some stuff wrong with cohorts and a few other things forgotten, but we'll get there. :) I have a feeling that Adventure 1 might have a different tone when you can use the mythic things.

I love that the Twin Cities have a store called "Your Mom's Basement."

It's a nice place! Small but they have a kitchen so we can nom while we play. I organize regular PFS there and we get 2-4 tables in there. They are very supportive of us. :D

Now let me just fix my typo in the original post... :)

Hello all (or perhaps just Minnesotans and some Wisconsinites?),

Thought as the VL of the PFSACG here in MN I'd make a post letting you all know our season around here is getting started. Any games that I am running I'll be posting on the MN PFS meetup site. We have both the RPG and ACG game days posted there.

Here are the stores and general schedule for the Twin Cities area so far:

The Schedule wrote:

Level Up Games - 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings of the month

Your Mom's Basement - 1st Thursday evening of the month, sometimes Saturday afternoons
Dreamer's - 2nd Tuesday evening of the month
Legion Games - 1st Sunday afternoon of the month

I've heard tell there is someone in Mankato who wants to run PFS as well! If you're interested in running a gameday in MN and need assistance, just let me know! :D

That is how I have been running it. If they had said a character can only get one mini chronicle that would clearly allow for replays on different characters for rewards, but in general once per player should work exactly as you read it.

Ohhhh, okay. I had seen that a mini-chronicle sheet has more than one reward checkbox so I had thought that a single character could get more than one upgrade, if they ran one and then the other. (But you couldn't get more than three upgrades on a character because you would run out of reward boxes). I presume the format is just because it's similar to the regular chronicle sheets then?

On Page 9:

Replaying Scenarios
You may replay any Adventure Card Guild scenario as many times as you like, as long as you play with a deck of the appropriate power level (see sidebar). Your character may only gain the reward for any given scenario, adventure, or adventure path once, though you may upgrade your deck each time you complete the scenario.
So yes, you can replay scenarios and keep upgrading your deck. Reward only once, though.

Another question related to replay - the guide mentions you can only gain the reward for a character once. Does that mean a second character could also gain the reward for playing again?

For example: Character 1001 plays ScenarioA twice, takes the scenario reward once as per the rules. Then Character 1002 plays ScenarioA. Can that character take the reward?

I'm asking for clarification because this is different than regular PFS and I want to be sure.

If you are able to take a reward again on a different character, does this mean rewards that grant benefits outside the card game (such as boons for regular PFS character) could be earned again or would their be a classification of 'once per player' for certain reward types?

Demo guide now available.

Thank you for pointing this out! I've been running just regular games as Demos so now I can run these and give people credit towards organized play to boot. :)

I think the coupon thing might be an option just specifically for retailers. I know there was supposed to be a retailer kit being sent out. Not sure if it was in that or not. I'll see if I can scrounge that post up from Vic.

EDIT: Ok. Here is where Vic said there was a retail kit. No mention of the coupon or anything that I see.

The coupon is really a way to get people to check out the base set and consider buying it for themselves. It is a way, I think, for Paizo to help retailer maybe sell an additional product or two.

Yeah - the last Demo I ran the store let me see their retailer kit they had got, since he had asked if I wanted to hand out the promo cards (I declined; makes sense to hand them out when we kickoff organized play for realz). It pretty much had just the promo cards in it. So I presume the coupons from the Demo might be something organizers and/or stores get access to?

But while I think the organized play in general can help drive interest in the game in general, the 'coupon' in this case is more focused on organized play, for a freebie upgrade because you were learning to play. Right?

4/5 5/5 * Venture-Captain, Minnesota—St. Paul

I have the same question as MattCaulder there about the demo rewards, as I've been tasked with getting the card game up and going here in Minnesota. :)

Also, I've already run some demo games with Rise of the Runelords to teach the basics of the game; can I retroactively give demo game rewards or should that not officially take place until after September 3rd?

Some more questions about chronicles and scenarios: Scenarios can either be purchased or provided by the store? I presume they tell you how to set up the game. But where do we get chronicle sheets to hand out to players? Would it be possible for a player to fill out this season's chronicle sheet and need another one? Is this something coordinators need to provide or would players be able to grab their own chronicle sheets as well?

This thread has been very helpful to read through. I'm getting more confident about the start of this card game season, though I think I need to read through the guide a couple more time. :)
