After several days of rain, it's finally nice weather again. The sun is shining bright and hot, quickly evaporating the puddles left behind from the awful weather of yesterday. It's the second of Erastus and it's looking like it might be the hottest day of the year so far. Summer is well and truly here.

It has been almost four years since the whirlwind of events that saw Sandpoint bathed in blood and chaos. The perpetrators of those events have all been dealt with and the heroes have moved on. The tales about them have moved from status of hot news into almost that of legends. Though the marks of what happened is still visible with the husk of two burnt out buildings still remaining and many villagers sporting old scars. But with so little happening, the force of the law has fallen back to a skeleton crew. It's just sheriff Belor Hemlock, a handful of guards and whatever help they can get from the ranger Shaelu when she's in town, which she currently isn't.

Sandpoint is a moderate town, not as sprawling as Magnimar a day and a half of travel to the southwest, but still with over a thousand residents. It has several bustling industries, including lumber, fishing, farming, and glassblowing as well as a number of unique businesses and entertainment venues.

One of these unique places is The Rusty Dragon Inn. It's located just past the southern bridge overlooking the Turandarok River at the corner of Market and River Streets. It's a large wooden building marked by a sizable weather-worn iron dragon that looms over travellers from the building's roof. Patrons enter through the inn's common room, its largest area, with over a dozen tables, a large stage, a hearth, and of course a bar.

Every window in the establishment is covered in glass, which is quite unusual and luxurious, but it does make sense given that the owner of the tavern, Ameiko Kaijiutsu also owns the glassworks in the city. The inn is quite well known for its exotic and spicy food and this morning the selection is between a spicy fish soup with noodles or a variety of deep fried batter-covered ingredients called tempura.

Along one wall is a message board, containing various tasks and jobs that need doing. For that reason it's quite a popular place for adventures and several seem to have gathered here despite the early hour.

There are a number of other patrons too. An elderly couple dressed in decent, but not fine clothing enjoying breakfast together. A slightly greying man dressed in finery playing go against what appears to be a farmer. A nobleman is eating alone while spending most of his time eying Ameiko and the other staff. Finally a skittish man dressed in what might have been fine clothes once, but now they're singed and dirty and it appears part of his hair has been burnt as well. The skittish man is constantly looking around, behind him and at the door nervously as if he expects an attack of some sort.

Welcome to this romantic version of Jade Regent. Feel free to discuss amongst yourself to figure it if and how you might know each other from before the game starts.

I'll get up the gameplay thread soon and invite you all to a discord server.

This adventure does not start of with a grand journey despite what's written in the players handbook. The first part involves some some goblins in the nearby swamp. You all start out in the rusty dragon, so it might be a good idea to think about how you even up there.

I've finally decided to throw my hat in the ring as a GM. I present to you Jade Regent, an adventure where you (eventually) travel across the edge of the world to uncover ancient legacy in the far east.

The campaign introduce a number of NPCs that the characters can build relationships with as the story progress. I want to put a greater focus on those relationships with the goal that each PC eventually gets romantically involved with one NPC. As such I'll be selecting four players, one for each NPC. I've also decided to make Koya slightly younger to make such a relationship seem more natural. I'll also allow submissions paired with a gender-swapped version of Koya (Koy) to balance the gender distribution.

Races: All medium sized races will be allowed, however I will maximum be picking two outside of core and I'm much more likely to pick races with ties to the east from the exotic races.
Classes: All classes from any Paizo publication will be allowed except for Gunslinger (bolt ace allowed) and unchained summoner (use the normal version).
Alignments: Characters can be of any Good or Neutral alignment. No evil alignments will be allowed.
Abilities: 20 Point Buy
Skills: We will be using the background skills system
Feats: Any feat from any Paizo publication will be acceptable except Sacred Geometry. We will be using elephant in the room, unchained rogues, swashbucklers and other that get weapon finesse from class can pick an additional combat feat for free.
Traits: Characters will start with two traits, one of which be from the Jade Regent Player’s Guide. A drawbacks for a third trait will be allowed. The Younger Sibling trait will be allowed, but you have to pick a second campaign trait for a NPC to romance.
Hit Points: Characters will start out with maximum hit points for their class at 1st level. Thereafter characters will roll for their hit points (or accept ½ hit die+1) whichever is greater.
Starting Gold: Characters will roll for their starting gold (or accept the average for their class) whichever is greater.
Posting rate: I would greatly prefer if everyone are able to post at least once per day, though I understand that some days things don't work out and absences are ok if they are notified.
Communication: I'll be creating a discord server for OOC chatter and to easier get hold of each other, but the actual playing will happen on these boards.

Feel free to ask here or PM me if you have any questions. If there's any feature or class that you feel have been hit too hard by errata, I might allow the pre-errata version.

Deadline is tentatively 2nd of August, but I might move it up if I get too many submissions. I'll let you know at least 24 hours in advance if that's the case.

I recently switched from iPhone 5s to s7 edge and I'm shocked by how much worse everything looks on the forums here. It's probably because the resolution is quite high, even though the screen size is still quite small. Any chance you could look into fixing it? I imagine resolutions on phones will only get better going forward.

A lance can be wielded one handed while mounted. An large weapon used in one hand can be wielded in two hands by a medium creature at a -2 penalty to hit (unless you got Effortless Lace). However a lance still counts as a two handed weapon. Can you do this in pfs? I know you can wield a large bastard sword as one of the iconics does it. Is there an official ruling (or presedence) somewhere that I haven't been able to find? Or can I expect table variance?

Hi,
I have a couple questions about Tattooed Sorcerer that I haven't been able to decisively figure out the answer to.

a) Create Spell Tattoo: What is the cost, if anything?
b) Enhanced Magical Tattoo: If you have Mage's Tattoo (Enchantment) then Geas-Quest is a legal choice for this ability. This ability doesn't mention time used to activate the spell like ability at all, hence it defaults to the 1 standard action. You can use this to cast Geas-Quest (or really any long casting time spell) a standard action. Am I missing something?

So I read the FAQ on Armor spikes. But some things are still unclear to me.

1) I can't find the rules for it anywhere, but what sort of armor can you put armor spikes on? Can you put it on light armor? Silken Cermonial Armor?
2) Do you still benefit from the corageous enchantment on your armor spikes if you attack with a two handed weapon?
3) If you attacked the previous turn, do you threaten both at reach and close if you wield a two handed reach weapon and armor spikes?
4) If you didn't attack do you still threaten both?

Hi, it would be nice if dice rolls only worked on original posts and not on edits and there was a warning if rolls were edited out from the posts. This has been implemented on other boards I've played pbp at, but sadly isn't in place here. It would make me (and others I've talked to) feel much more safe that no one are trying to cheat by editing the rolls. I've only seen edited rolls 3-4 times so far (sometimes unintentionally), but then again, I've only been playing pbp here actively for a bit over two months.

I would also love if notifications worked on the forum, but I imagine, that is a whole different issue.

I tried to buy some digital products some days ago through my phone. It for some reason required me to fill out a billing address after putting in my card details. The form didn't resize from the payment details size, so it was impossible to fill out the last line as well as to hit submit. This made it impossible to complete my order.

I recently came across the spell Alter Summon Monster from Pathfinder Player Companion: Monster Summoner's Handbook and I can't help but wonder if it actually is intended to interact with Mount/Communal Mount and the heightened versions of those (or just Phantom Steed etc) the way I read it to do. For reference, here is the spell:

Quote:
You swap a creature summoned by a conjuration (summoning) spell for a creature you could summon with a summon monster or summon nature's ally spell. The new creature must be an option from a spell of the same level or lower as the spell that summoned the target. The new creature cannot be summoned into an environment that cannot support it. The target can attempt a Will saving throw to negate this effect, but if the target is under your control, it receives no saving throw. Alter summoned monster does not alter the duration of the spell that summoned the target, nor does it affect any additional creatures summoned by the same spell as the target. The new creature has the same conditions and amount of damage as the target creature, and remains affected by all curses, diseases, poisons, and penalties that affected the target, but no other spells or effects carry over. Alter summoned monster is a spell of the same alignment type or types as the creature for which you exchange the target. An eidolon can't be targeted by this spell.

All the various Mount spells are conjuration (summoning) spells, so they fulfill the only requirement of the spell. However the mount spells have a duration of 2/hours level, lasting easily the whole day after a few levels. This basically allow you to expend a 2nd level spell + another spell to get a summon monster lasting the whole day. For a 2nd level spell + an 2nd level spell this is probably fine, but for a 2nd level spell + a 4th level spell to get a 4th level spell summon lasting the whole day seems a bit much. Is this the intended behavior? Also, Heightened Mount or Heightened Communal Mount cast as a 4th level spell would by my reading allow you to replace the Mount(s) with a 4th level summon (or whatever level you chose to heighten it to), giving you some nice added flexibility to this combination. Is there any reason this shouldn't work?

Unfortunately my questions of this spell doesn't stop there. Summoners get access to this spell. Summoners can cast Summon Monster IV as a 3rd level spell and Summon Monster VII as a 5th level spell. If they target a 3rd level mount, or a 5th level mount, would they then get to swap it with a 4th and 7th level summon monster respectively? This could essentially give access to summon monster IV for the whole day at level 5 with coordination with a wizard or witch and access to Summon Monster VII at level 9 (this gets much worse with gestalt, but that isn't paizo rules even if a lot of people play PF with them so lets not cover that). Is this the intended behavior? It would be very nice to get a FAQ and/or developer answer for this.
