![]() Go ahead and state your preference for which game you want to play..and if you've played one but not the other. Also...please remember i have strict posting rules...If you apply for this game you're promising to post once a day during week-days and at least once on the weekends. Only absolute emergencies will be given a pass for not posting a day...and then only once. If you have a day or two you know you won't post in the next couple of months and you notify myself and the whole group well in advance that will be ok too. More than a day or two absent..(like a family vacation where you have no internet access) Please do not apply...this game is not for you. My goal is to knock this game out by the end of June beginning of July.
Ok please apply if you still want to play. We start Monday the 7th.. FYI I will pick by lottery ..I don't care about your experience your character concept ect..(just have it ready to go by the 7th meaning full stat bars and a completely filled profile page) ![]()

![]() Ok here's the place to ask questions and just chat. Letsuma and Awenydd83, since you're the first two players you can present your character concepts in this thread. Please, help direct traffic on the recruitment thread and answer any questions you may have the answer to (with regard to prospective applicants) I will drop a word doc. with all the legal books for this campaign in the link near my avatar within' the next few days..For now just build anything you want that's Pathfinder legal..If you put something from a book I don't have installed on Herolab, I may ask you to nix it or I may just buy the book. I do plan on buying Occult adventures..As far as hard-bounds go..I believe I'll have everything except Horror adventures and Ultimate Wilderness. Plus an abundance of player and campaign guides..so there will be plenty of options to choose from. Anyway, glad to have my first two aboard..don't be afraid to pipe in and let me know if you like a particular applicant..or if you can't stand playing with a particular person, you can PM me. We'll try to select a couple good applicants over the next week- week and a half..that way the 4 of you will have plenty of time to discuss what characters, what kind of party balance, additional house rules, social contracts (on time off boting ect..), do you want a 5th PC or should the GM play a GMPC so we can have rotating GMs between books? I think you'll need a week or two to discuss these things before we get rolling. Shooting for opening post last couple days of March or very beginning of April. Ok that's it for now

![]() We'll be recruiting up to three more players for, a new Reign of Winter Campaign. Character's start at 1 level (no XP): For now build your character PFS legal (options may open by group consensus). There will be some additional book restrictions that, are currently PFS legal (but, don't worry about it for now). Players who use Herolab given preference ...but, exceptions could be made for an exceptional candidate. We will choose 2 other players, based on past PbP Role-playing documentation. Also most importantly, enthusiasm and the willingness to post 6 times a week or more (planned vacations and family emergencies being the exception) is what will separate you from the crowd ! If you feel you might like to apply..please offer one or two character concepts in this thread. Include a simplified backstory ( a sentence or two of who they are and why they might want be involved is enough), What class, archtype (if any), and what particular trait or gimmick..makes your character special.. That's it! I will be handing out chronicles for anyone who wants PFS credit, once we complete the book (obviously we'll be playing in Campaign mode). There's no guarantee we'll go beyond book one. (unless we use a rotating GM strategy or, I have a change of heart) Good luck..

![]() Ok everyone you all know the drill: player name: (or alias; ie lucklesshero)
Please let me know if you use herolab...I'll send u my email so you can send me your portfolio...will make my life sooo much easier! PS expect opening post this coming Thursday in the mean time you can roll-play as if you were on a ship or in a coach heading to Ustalav. ![]()
![]() Selection will be done by lottery on 12/11/17..Please do not dot the discussion or game play thread until you're picked. Weight may be given to create a balanced party. (ie. would like to see all 4 class archtypes in this one: Arcane, Divine, Skill, and Tank/Meat shield) This will be a 5 person run. (ie. only 5 lottery winners will play). GL HF! ![]()

![]() The city of Ardis was once the crown jewel of Ustalav’s royal courts, but since the seat of government moved to Caliphas, its glory has long since waned. The former metropolis now plays host to deluded nobles and peasants alike, all running through hazy imitations of a life decades gone, insisting they still matter and that their glory has yet to diminish. ![]() So what inspired this thread was a question posed in the PbP recruitment thread. It was simple enough, " Why so much interest in CORE?" I tried to answer the question with my usual ill advised attempt at wit and humor. (I had obviously just posted a recruitment for a CORE scenario.) I answered truthfully and managed not to bash traditional PFS (which I like to play and GM). However, it got me thinking...is there another reason I like to run CORE?
It's the weirdest thing, sometime after Advanced Class Guide, I checked out. I own a hard copy of Occult adventures and have even read a few of the classes, but I haven't made any for PFS or any other games. Ultimate Intrigue is suppose to be a pretty good book; but if anything..I must admit part of the reason I haven't picked it up is because I care nothing about the Vigilante. To be fare, I'll probably pick up Ultimate wilderness...but do I care about the Shifter...? This happened to me in 3.5 at some point as well; I stopped caring what the new shinny toy was and decided enough..It had less to do with balance than it did bloat. I just felt there was enough to have fun with already in the game..how many ways can you re-skin a Wizard or a Ranger? (apparently a lot)
Don't get me wrong I still enjoy welcoming these players to my PFS tables..and if one of my home game players truly wanted to play one of these classes I probably wouldn't forbid it....But, as for me I'm burnt out..I don't care if they ever release a new class. What a character does mechanically is less interesting than how the player plays that PC. So I bring it back to the question at hand.. Do you care about the new (or newer) classes? If not when did you check out? ![]()

![]() To the design team at Paizo:
I apologize but, I'm going on a complete rant. I will summarize my thoughts. If Cold Weather outfits do not offer protection, at this range of temperature variation; not only, does it defy what we in the non-fantasy world know to be true; It also makes an ordinary adventuring party completely feeble in 39 deg. weather, after a 7-8hr hike, without the use of magic like endure elements. I realize each GM has the right to modify these rules as he sees fit. However, I have recently started playing in Pathfinders Organized Play campaign and have come to realize, if a PFS GM interprets that cold weather outfit as to mean non- protected, it makes some modules and scenarios untenable, for PFS play at the tiers they were written for. It effectually punishes characters with no access to the endure elements effect. the numbers:
If you don't believe me; run the numbers on a human trying to rest 8hrs in 30 deg. weather with a total of +17 modifiers to his fort. check to resit cold weather ( +3 fort, +1 con, +5 cold weather gear,+4 endurance, +4 for making his survival check)
By using Binomial distribution we can come up with a number that accounts for all 8 rolls and their increasing DC's through the night(or day if your party is hiking). A character with a total of +17 in bonuses will take at least 1d6 NL dmg. 63% of the time if he were just resting or walking in 38 deg. for 8hrs. About 18% time he/she would take 2d6. Now translate that, to characters who have say a +12 in modifiers, the dmg. goes up exponentially. Thus the same rules that allow our characters to jump incredible heights, slay fantastic beast, cast mysterious magic, reduce our characters to feeble weaklings compared to a middle age farmer who tills his fields all day in cool weather (30 deg). The farmer gets home, tired, collapses on his bed. The first level ranger who helped him, is unconscious in the field because, he couldn't pass the DC 20, 21,22 saves required for the last 3 hours work ..despite wearing cold weather clothes! The rules are not perfect. That is understood. And I understand I am treading tenuous ground when I try to compare our concept of reality with that of an imaginary fantasy reality. But, all these considerations aside. Did you as designers really intend all Pathfinder characters to just spam endure elements when the temperature drops bellow 40 deg? ![]()

![]() After surviving the plot against them in Trollheim, by Runa White and Hjort bloodaxe, our group intends to travel on to Whitethrone, the capital of the icy nation of Irrisen. Their mission is to rescue Rognvald Skagni, a fellow Pathfinder and scholar of some renown. They are also tasked with investigating the up-start Shadow lodge and deflect or defeat any further plans or machinations this ill conceived group may have. In order to gain entry to the country, they will join a mixed caravan of merchants and hunters on a diplomatic mission to Irrisen. The party will disguised themselves as simple merchant guards or warriors. With this ruse, they might managed to pass the notoriously well guarded Irrisen border, and avoid the wrath of its bizarre chicken-legged huts. Thus begins Exiles in Winter. All post should be in this game thread not Written in Blood, from this point forward. You may continuing your dialogue in the Hunting Serpert here. Look for GM's introductory post sometime on 6/2/17..Good luck Pathfinders...have fun! ![]()

![]() GM has started thread: expect actual game play to begin once I've loaded all characters updated equipment into Herolab. I believe Jamir has already sent me a file. For those of you not using herolab, I will need an updated inventory sheet emailed to me or, a list of what you bought and it's cost on the discussion thread. Hopefully we'll get into actual game play by Thursday or Friday...excited! ![]()
![]() Ok I've got one or two questions involving purchasing equipment in PFS. Mostly about mundane equipment. However, let me first clarify what I think I got right. 1. "the always available list assumes the characters are in a city of 5000 or more people. (and by proxy that means almost every time between PFS scenarios, the players will have access to buy from the always available list..is this correct thinking? 2. The always available list includes the following: All basic armor, gear, items, and weapons from Chapter 6 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook, including items for Small and Large characters:special materials, such as alchemical silver and cold iron (excluding dragon hide):All mundane weapons, armor, equipment, and alchemical gear found in any other source that is legal for play are considered always available, including masterwork quality versions where a cost is defined:also; +1 weapons, shields/armor, potions and oils of 50gp or less, scrolls of 50gp or less, a wayfinder, and finally anything purchased with prestige points. 3. Fame is for items that are not on the always available list; In general you must have enough fame to purchase an item (as well as the gold) unless it is listed as a boon on a chronicle sheet or is in the always available category..Am I still thinking correct? 4. Chronicle sheets with boon items listed (that are not crossed off by GM) allow a PC to superseded the fame system in many cases to purchase an item without the necessary fame (but still need the gold) Still think I got it correct but I think there is more as well and this is where I'm confused Question A. Why are mundane non-magical items ever listed on a chronicle sheet? Isn't this redundant since they're always available? Or is this placed here for the corner case scenario, in which a PC needs say "snow shoes" in the middle of an adventure and is no where near a town of 5000 people (because remember between adventures characters can pretty much pretend to be anywhere) Question B. If a character is no where near a town of 5000 say only 900 people what rules system do we follow then? Keep in mind I'm only talking mid-adventure here player wants to buy snowshoes from 900 population frontier town mid-adventure. Question C. If the answer is he can always buy the item? why ever bother putting it on a chronicle sheet as a reward? Question D. If the character cannot buy his snowshoes what can he buy? Question E. If a chronicle sheet has an item listed can you buy that item in the middle of the adventure? or do you have to wait until you are awarded the chronicle sheet at the end of the adventure? Sorry for the lengthy post..have legit questions/ concerns over the always available items and chronicle sheets..the why's and whens need to be answered.. ![]()
![]() Hey all,
Let me start with this:This thread has nothing to do with any of that.... The whole good vs evil in our own society has been settled for over 100 years now. before a ton of people jump on me about forms of slavery still existing in the modern world; let me 1st say, "I acknowledge the fact, I abhor that it is still practiced, I in no way want to marginalize it, But I'm not starting a thread about the evils of slavery in the real world. Slavery existed in one form or another for thousands of years here on planet earth. It is therefore, appropriate that Paizo acknowledge the fact. Sentient beings have a penchant for placing each other in bondage when one group becomes more powerful than another. The question I want to pose to the persons that respond to this thread is: How does your role playing group deal with the moral, political, ideological, and spiritual challenges that slavery can present? Evil groups need not answer, unless you have a really unique take Here's a fascinating discourse about slavery that a role-playing group of Pathfinders had about slavery in a PFS scenario recently. Warning spoilers for PFS scenario #6-18 "From under the Ice". PFS slavery discourse ![]()

![]() Hi everyone,
![]()
![]() Hi all! I thought it might be fun to run a play by post scenario for PFS to begin my journey as a PFS GM. What I'll be looking for is players who are familiar with PFS rules and can help walk me through some of the nuance of registering our game turning in chronicle sheets ect.. A couple things will be high on my wish list for prospective players.
Other than that all I require is that you present a Pathfinder(society) legal character that limits itself to the following resources: Core rule
I'll close up recruitment after I receive 8 or 9 genuine inquiries (of which I'll pick 5-6). If you just want to play a pre-gen that's welcome too. My goal is to finish this scenario b4 May so players/GM can apply PFS credit to their characters b4 Piazocon . Include your character's class lv. ect.. in the first response and a short reason as to why'd you like play in this Play by post scenario. Remember, though I'm not a new GM: I'm new to both play by post and PFS so be willing to put up with a little frustration and help me along. OK looking forward to your responses!
p.s. small hint.. profession sailor might come up in this scenario... ![]()
![]() Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am planning on attending Paizocon 2017. I've already got my e-ticket badge bought my banquet ticket and reserved a room at the Double Tree.
Could someone with experience give me a breakdown of how this process usually works? Ideally I'd like to attend one or two seminars and do 3-4 society games leaving the rest up in the air until I figure out what events are actually going to happen. Obviously, this is my first time so any help would surely be appreciated.....thx in advance ![]()
![]() Any gamers in the Eugene Springfield area that are interested in playing in a Giant Slayer adventure path please hit me up. Had 6 players in this group at one time now down to 1. We're only in book one so you'd be coming in at low level. Trying to re-boot this campaign while keeping the one remaining player invested. Thursday and Tuesday are really the only nights that could work for me right now but, that may be more flexible this summer. Hoping there's a few gamers out there in Eugene! |
