I was on the boards severl months ago and their were several arguments going around as to how shields as weapons worked etc. Has this been resolved in FAQ or is it still up in the air? Main points are

Does bashing and shield spikes on a heavy steel shield = 2d6?
Can you use a shield in your main hand as a primary weapon and another weapon( such as a kukri etc) in your off hand?
Is it legal to use two shields ( would never try to attempt this simply wanting to know) as weapons?

Any knowledge if this has been cleared up would be great.

This will be my first archer chracter, and I really want to see what the class is capable of.

The build out I have so far is

level 1 rapid, persise, point blank shot
level 2 deadly aim
level 3 weapon focus (composite longbow)
level 4 weapon specilization (composite longbow)
level 5
level 6 many shot

This is as far as I have gotten the stats are

STR 14
DEX 18
CON 14
INT 10
WIS 10
CHA 10

Any one have any advice?

I am trying to think of a chracter that could really take advantage of the above average states ( thinking of a MAD class that would normally not be as effective)

The stats are

16
17
14
15
18
8

I want to play an archer type chracter as I have never played one in pathfinder I did in 3.5 and I have heard that archery has been scaled up in pathfinder ( thank you paizo).

Any advice from the boards.

My gm in an upcoming Jade regant game ( skipping to book 4 im told) I will be a level 10 blaster sorcerer ( I know unoptimized but I wanted to give it a try). My gm told me I should take leadership, I informed him that I think the feat is very overpowerd, he said " no its not that bad there are a lot of limits take it" so I pose a challange ( such as it is.

How far can we take this?

My leadership score should be 18 Lvl 10+8cha mod ( this is with item with out only +5 so 15)

Im showing 351st lvl 3,2nd lvl 1 4th 1 5th lvl follower, and a level 8 cohort.

How optimized can we make this?

When does a fireball take affect, when a sorcerer applies a meta magic feat to it?

Examply say Sorc wins initive and casts an intensified fireball, when does the fireball happen?

What is the best way possible to make a blaster sorcerer? I know that blasting is not the best use of casters. That being said with in this concept for fun's sake ( I still have fun launching fireball rolling tons of dice and the bad guys falling over) what is the way to maximize damage as a blaster sorcerer?

This question came up in my game.

The paldin uses two short swords, and wanted to use Lay on hands on him self to heal with out dropping/ sheathing one of them.

It is my belief he could not do this, since the ability reads,

"Despite the name of this ability, a paladin only needs one free hand to use this ability."

Now in my mind this is very clear, a hand that is usign to wield a weapon, definatly not a free hand. I was wondering has there been an FAQ? or a post from JJ or SKR etc on this?

I have fallen in love with pathfinder it relly is a great system that I have a lot of fun with, as such I want to play in more games ( 2 just isnt enough). Does any one know of any where to sign up for online games?

Also I am interested in may doing a Pathfidner society play for the first time, are these available online?

I just want to make sure I ahev the rules clear on this.

A magic item that increases an ability ( say belt of giant str +2)

After you leave it on for 24 hours it is considerd a permanent bonus and you may use this bonus to qualify for feats.

If you ever drop below that you loost accsess to the feat untill such a time where you have the needed ability score.

Is that correct?

This is rogar my sword and board dwarf

STR 18
DEX 17
CON 14
INT 7
WIS 14
CHA 8

It was a 25 point buy he is currently lvl 4 ( increase went to wisdom to round it out)

This is my planned feat progression

Level 1: Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Shield Bash
Level 2: weapon focus scimar
Level 3: Power attack
Level 4: weapon spcilization scimar
Level 5: double slice
Level 6: Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
Level 7: Shield Slam
Level 8: improved critical scimtar (+1 STR)
Level 9: weapon focus ( shield)
Level 10: weapon scilization ( shield)
Level 11: Shield Master
Level 12: iron will
Level 13: Two-Weapon Rend

I feel like I am missing something

I have not seen any advice on these gus I like reading about the different classes as it is interesting to me. Is there any advice about these classes, or are they simply never played?

So to make a a long story short, my initial chracter concept was kind of derailed ( sword and board) as such, I ahve to do a little redesign luckily this happend just as we hit level 4 and I am a fighter so I can retrain a feat my current feats before retraining are,

TWF, Improved shield bash, step up, power attack,

My initial concept was sword and board eventually hitting, shield slam and shield mastery as I have been told even if I duel wield shields I cant, apply shield slam to all attacks ( only one hand) and I could only every use a light shield in the off hand ( 1d8) I am thinking to simply duel wielding kukeris, my stats are as of the attribute increase

STR 18
DEX 17
CON 14
INT 7
WIS 14
CHA 8

Race is dwarf.

My initial though was to retrain improved shield bash, to weapon focus kukeri, then for 4th level take weapon specilzation kukeri.

Is this a decent idea for TWF or am I missing something?

I am confused by the errata/faq of

Can I use the Bonus Feats class feature to retrain a feat that I gained at 1st level (such as Cleave ) to gain a feat that I did not qualify for at 1st level, but do qualify for now (such as Lunge )?

Yes. Yes. So long as the feat That You "lose" is Not Used as a Prerequisite for Any Other feat, prestige class, or Other Ability, You Can Gain Any feat That You Qualify for at the time That you retrain it. So long as the feat that you "lose" is not used as a prerequisite for any other feat, prestige class, or other ability, you can gain any feat that you qualify for at the time that you retrain it

Does this mean at level 4 you get to drop a feat taken at say level 1 AND get your level 4 feat or do you only retrain?

This is the text of the shield master feat it seems clear to me that it removes all penalties with your shield if you wield another weapon, such as the penalty on power attack, as the wording of the power attack feat states it is a -1 penalty. etc. Are there any rulings on this paticular feat I should eb aware of, are there penalties it has been FAQd to not remove.

Shield Master (Combat)
Your mastery of the shield allows you to fight with it without hindrance.

Prerequisites: Improved Shield Bash, Shield Proficiency, Shield Slam, Two-Weapon Fighting, base attack bonus +11.

Benefit: You do not suffer any penalties on attack rolls made with a shield while you are wielding another weapon. Add your shield's enhancement bonus to attacks and damage rolls made with the shield as if it was a weapon enhancement bonus.

Say I ahve a chracter with improved TWF and Shield slam, using the shield as the off hand weapon, do I get a free bull rush for every attack with the shield or only one?

I just saw this in another thread

"Anything that improves attack rolls improves CMB, including weapon feats if using weapon for the special attack."

So this means weapon focus etc, archtype bonuses etc?

Where is this stated if true?

I am gming my first campaign in a long while and I am wondering what spells to watch out for in the gam,e I limeted the books to only core and the apg as this is my first outing gming pathfinder ( having a blast playing btw thanks paizo)

This is my shield bash build for a fighter and I am looking for some input on it, spcifically I am worried about my to hit bonus and at later levels becoming irrelevant ( even more so than normal for martial classes)

Level 1: Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Shield Bash
Level 2: step up
Level 3: Power attack
Level 4: improved bull rush
Level 5: greater bull rush
Level 6: Shield Slam
Level 7: Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
Level 8: double slice (+1 STR)
Level 9: weapon focus ( shield)
Level 10: weapon scilization ( shield)
Level 11: Shield Master
Level 12: iron will
Level 13: Two-Weapon Rend

Race is dwarf

stats are

str 18

( currently at lvl 4 ability went to dex from 16 - 17

We are running a game of pathfinder council of thieves on every other sunday, and we are looking for 1-3 more people ( we dont mind haveing a larger group, please comment on this thread or email me at jacetms87@gmail.com

I just wanted to confirm the number of times that a witch can " cast" a hex perday I am not seeing any limit so they may use them an unlimeted number of times perday? ( obviously not on the same target as most of them state only on single creature once per 24hr time frame)

There's only a limit if a limit is stated.

We had this issue come up, When leveling my fighterI opted for the skill rather than the hp ( we are using heroic HP in this game so I already had 43 at lvl 3...) I have a 7 inteligence for a -2 modifier, but you always get at least one skill. If I opt for the favored class option DO I get two skills? Another player thought the -2 modifier carried over into this as well.

Will some one please clear this up for me, or point to where this has already beem addressed.

Where are the posts?

I am starting the Council of thieves adventure path this sunday, everyone is really excited about it, ( including my self). I do have a worry that since the adventure paths are built for 4 15 point buy chracters that 3-6 ( depending on who can show up, things come up etc) will simly walk though and have no problem.

My question is, how should I scale up the encounters? Do I add more enemies per mob therefore more xp? Do I just increase the difficulty on the existing numbers, and award the same xp? Has any one run into this before?

I know this request may be met with cries of munchkin but hear me out, my group does not belive that the summoner class is even worth playing ( thinking it very weak since you dont get normal spell progression,) none of them have plyed one and the idea seems cool to me, I want to totally optimize the sommonor however, the number of options are slightly over whelming. I am asking how do you totally optimise the synthesist summoner?

I would love a build out to about lvl 10, or just some ideas on how to do it, simply as a learning exersise for my group.

I was thinking of going the brawler archetype for my

Sword and board fighter, for the extra damage with the shild, and the free stand still feat.

Does anyone have any experience with this archtype.

The title kind of says it all, which class provides the most damage, at levels 1-5 for archery.

I am thinking the fighter, or ranger ( ranger gets a bump if you know you are primarily fighting one thing and take your Prefered enemy along with that)

This will be my first tiem DMing in a few years, and my first time ever in Pathfinder, as such I have been reading up on chracter builds the system etc, I was just wanting to know if there are any builds/tricks that I should be wary of.

Players will be starting off at lvl 1 with a 25 point buy, with Standard HP I know it is a high point value but there will only be 3 of them for the council of thieves adventure path ( Thanks PAZIO!!!)

For my edilon it has 2 claw attacks and the bite, I can not find the Crit range for these attacks, do they have any and if so what I am guessing it would only be 20 x2

Can you heal the eidolon with cure x wounds spells? I am new to path finder I did not find anything saying you could not, hwoever a player who has played longer than I is saying only the rejuvinate eidolo spells can heal it. What is the correct answer?

I ahve read treanamonks guide to wizards, but I confess I am over whelmed with what feats to take, spells for spell slots preferd schools etc.

What I want to do is make a lvl 5 wizard conjeration school. It is a 25 pt buy with the following stats at lvl 1 plus level 4 ability increase in int.

STR 8
DEX 16
Con 12
INT 21
WIS 7
CHA 9

ELF familiar conjuration school.

This is the point where I start to get lost. Between how many spells I get a day, spells memorized v spells in spell book etc. Not to mention feats, traits ect.

Any hel with a sample build or a better way to tackle this would be greatly appriciated.

I definatly want the "god" caster build as the group I am playing with has only ever really played blasters, and I wanted to show them that there are other builds of wizards.

Any and all help is greatly appriciated.

This is my build for the sword and board. The character is a dwarf, to the crit chain is out. Please Let me know what you think. I am very interested to see if people think that the step up chain is worth it. This is my first foray into pathfinder and I am just wanting this as a general guide. Any information you would provide would be very helpful and appreciated. This is a classic sword and board.

The build ( 25 point buy after racial)

str 17
dex 16
con 16
int 7
wis 13
cha 8

Level 1: Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Shield Bash
Level 2: step up
Level 3: Power attack
Level 4: following step. (+1 dex)
Level 5: Combat Reflexes
Level 6: Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
Level 7: Shield Slam
Level 8: Improved Bull Rush (+1 STR)
Level 9: Greater Bull Rush
Level 10: Step up and Strike
Level 11: Shield Mastery
Level 12: weapon focus ( ax) (+1 STR)
Level 13: Iron will
Level 14: Double Slice
Level 15: Two-Weapon Rend
Level 16: Greater Weapon Focus [ax] (+1 Dex)
Level 17: Improved Iron Will
Level 18: Greater Two-Weapon Fighting (assuing I can get 2 inherent by now)
Level 19, 20: Either Critical Mastery, AC feats, Toughness, or whatever is looking best
