Lay on hands with two weapons

Rules Questions

This question came up in my game.

The paldin uses two short swords, and wanted to use Lay on hands on him self to heal with out dropping/ sheathing one of them.

It is my belief he could not do this, since the ability reads,

"Despite the name of this ability, a paladin only needs one free hand to use this ability."

Now in my mind this is very clear, a hand that is usign to wield a weapon, definatly not a free hand. I was wondering has there been an FAQ? or a post from JJ or SKR etc on this?

What about "Despite the name of this ability, a paladin only needs one free hand to use this ability." is unclear?

Despite my assertion that a Paladin can never not be touching herself, the rule is fairly clear.

JJ says you can LoH while using a light shield. You can also ungrip a two-handed weapon as a free action and do it that way. But with two weapons, heavy shields, or tower shields, you're pretty limited to dropping or sheathing.

Yeah with two weapons you would need weapon cords.

Weapon Cord

Source Advanced Player's Guide

Weapon cords are 2-foot-long leather straps that attach your weapon to your wrist. If you drop your weapon or are disarmed, you can recover it as a swift action, and it never moves any further away from you than an adjacent square. However, you cannot switch to a different weapon without first untying the cord (a full-round action) or cutting it (a move action or an attack, hardness 0, 0 hp). Unlike a locked gauntlet, you can still use a hand with a weapon cord, though a dangling weapon may interfere with finer actions.

If you do this remember that LoH is also a swift action any you only receive one per turn, so plan accordingly.

JJ's commentary in that thread doesn't really touch on self-healing as a swift action, and I've had venture captains tell me that my flail and board paladin is always touching himself for purposes of swift-action LoH. If Paizo faq's it, erratas it, or authoritatively posts otherwise I'll stop doing it but I've never had a problem in a PFS game when I self-heal.
