Liberty's Edge

I have had 3 character deaths between 2 PCs.
--The Sorcerer wanted to tank a giant turtle at the end of book 3 by using Burning Hands.
--The Fighter died in the Bastian under Vigil, then died again in Gallowspire in the end battle with the Graveknight. It seems that cloudkill, lighting and the graveknight hitting like a truck kinda will put a stop to your day.

Liberty's Edge

My party consists of
Elf Fighter (who drinks too much)
Elf Wizard(who hates his heritage)
Assimar Sorcerer (who doesn't want to lead)
Half elf Ranger(who misses his family)
Dhampir Oracle (who wants revenge on her father)

So I remember reading something about Hero Points for the older sets and how when they are earned are just used for re-rolls and resurrection.

What I can't find is how you earn Hero Points in the RotR or earlier sets?
Is it when you complete a chapter?
A Scenario?
A Scenario that only gives you a boon?

You can definitely do that. Just remember that if you do, you've already played an armor on the check - which means you can't use an armor to block damage if you fail the check to defeat.

IIRC, Sharkskin recharges for the effect, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Now, if you happen to have Boots of Elvenkind, however - THAT's where it gets interesting - a perfectly legal perma-bless on all your Monk weapons...

But the base RoRL Monk doesn't start with weapons ,but I did see the Elven boots bonus.

Liberty's Edge

So using nine ring sword let's you use acrobatics for combat and shark skin armor gives you +1die on acrobatics checks.

Is that legal to combine? Or is shark skin only for non combat?

In Gannet Island Room D9. It is under an Unhallowed with Silence Kicker that effects non-worshipers of Norgorber.

SO if the party kicks down the door to this room and engages in combat with the followers here would that attract attention of the Leader Cleric in room D10?

Silence stops all noise from leaving the room ,but the Clerics of Norgorber are immune to it so do they make 'noise' as normal?

OK I am starting the AP again with another table of PC's.

I have a 6 player game so I will have to adjust some of the encounters to account for the amount of players.

SO here is the player mix:

1 Gnome druid(storm,subdomain:wind)
1 Gnome alchemist
1 Gnome sorcerer
1 Half elf Witch(sea)
1 Half elf Magus
1 Human Ranger (Favorite enemy:animals)

Yep, I got 3 players playing gnomes...but I get the token Human.

We are actually almost to the Chapter 2:Man Promise.

There have been alot of whipping and punishments, and making some strange friends on the ship.

A PC that made their Knowledge: Nature check to identify it would probably be VERY concerned about seeing a Charda this size. It would be like facing off against a 16' tall nightmare badger.

Oh that is a good point I didn't think about that clue to give to the players.

Giant does not descibe its size (there is no giant size), but its template. Because of the giant template it is actually medium sized, but the aboleth did some magic to make it appear even bigger.

So its really medium sized, but seems to be large.

Thats what I thought as well. The description of the encounter confused me.

How is the Charda in the Brine Banshee encounter Giant? It starts as small, RAW in Bestiary 2. It says the Darkwater Charda is bigger then it's cousins ,but where is the stat block for the Darkwater Charda?

Liberty's Edge

Seaweed on Grindylow cave is listed as 5-8 ft thick on the cavern floor on page 47. Now is it on the cavern floor and when the high tide comes in does it floats to the top of the water line or does it stay on the bottom?

Liberty's Edge

That is what I thought, thanks. I know it doesn't effect levels ,but it is late at night and brain suffering negative levels.

Liberty's Edge

Hello,
Since enervation effects levels of a PC ,but Familiars don't have levels per say they are based off the caster, would Enervation even cause effects to a familiar?

I would say you would roll and that is how it's BAB,saves,CMB etc... are effected.

Liberty's Edge

thanks for you advice. I had a PC who did this and I was looking it over about the lost of the slime strike for it has no skin to produce slime.

Liberty's Edge

My group called their ship the Icy Naga due to the combat they just finished with the naga at Squibs and the Sorcerer uses ice spells.

Liberty's Edge

Does an aboleth have a skeleton under all that fish?

Would it's tentacles remain after the spell? Do they have any bone structure there?

Does it retain it's EX abilities when it is brought back? I know the slime cloud it gone due to the lack of flesh. What about Slime strike?
When you animate dead you lose all EX that don't improve attack or damage?

Liberty's Edge

So two of my PC's are evil alignment and they quickly went from Murder Hobos to causing a major fire at Bloodcove.

It seems they sold things at Bloodcove that were owned by the AspisC and therefore they were attacked by a Brute squad(hired by AspisC).

The one just lets loose with Fireball after Fireball and catches the buildings on fire as well for it is a dry season after all.

So I have now a major enemy and they don't know it yet. I know that Bloodcove is on the fringes of the Shackles ,but the reach of the AspisC has a far reach.

Can you say Bounty Hunters or Assassins around every corner?

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured other DM's could help me out.

Can you apply Familiar Archetype to Improved Familiars? I have found threads that say no for they can only be applied to animals.

But I have a player who says Sage Archetype is ok for it doesn't apply to animals. I don't have any problem really with what they are doing ,but for my piece of mind I wanted to know what the RAW is?

Liberty's Edge

Tidewater Rock Mistress says that she used to have more towers under her control ,but they were taken via other pirate conquests or disrepair. So I have made up a few side missions that involved some of the older towers. In one of them the party had to prevent one of the towers from burning down. So they had to race up a burning tower rescue some items and the race back down the tower WITH EXPLOSIONS OF FIRE! Very Michael Bay like.

Liberty's Edge

My players named their first ship: The Icy Naga ,for they had just defeated the naga at Ricky and the one player focuses on Ice combat magic.

Liberty's Edge

we have:
NE Male Halfling Thief, who is the quartermaster. Nickname:Cat
CG Male Undine Tattooed Sorcerer, who is the navigator, ship doctor/2nd in command. Nickname:Doctor Death, for he has killed more then saved.
N Female Half Orc Masked Witch, who is the Captain and wields a nasty great axe. Nickname:The Bloody
CG Female Kitsune Gunslinger, who is the master at arms for she is the only one that knows how to use the 2 cannons on the ship. Nickname:Broadsides

Notice we don't have any front line fighters, so the Thief has become the defacto attack dog.

Liberty's Edge

So far the Bard Conchobar has become the default bard for the crew and when they go to port he is the one that tells the tales to raise their Fame ,but a side effect is that he has incorperated himself into the stories as a main character even though he is not. The PC captain is annoyed.

If a character has negative Int penalty say -2, can he ever gain skill ranks if he is of the fighter or sorcerer class other then favorite class bonus?

When you make the above 1st level character does he get any skill ranks at all to start with the class of fighter or sorcerer?

Mentioned on page 17 of the PFCR;

Pathfinder Core Rulebook Page 17 wrote:

I knew it was in there somewhere. I just couldn't find that rule that a character gets a min of 1.
