Not sure if there are detailed maps available for this setting and all of my books are packed away so I cannot confirm what is available. I always get a slight Borderlands feel from the Wheel of Time series for both Lastwall, and Mendev for that matter, with the Hold being the Blight. Maybe have a look to see what if anything is available in the way of specific maps for the borderlands or even one of the kingdoms. I seem to remember that Shienar was the Borderland nation most associated with heavy cavalry so that could be a start. For historic references you could also look at what the English did to fortify their border with a and eventually conquer Wales. You could also look at Scotland but that played out in a completely different way and never truly ended the way that it did in Wales.
If in the course of an adventure you want one of your players to end up having a one on one duel versus an opponent how do you determine what level the BG should be? I ask because it says that the CR is based on the Average Party Level based on X number of characters being in the party. Or did I miss something completely?
[url=http://myarmoury.com/feature_oakeshott.html[/url] For anyone interested in what Legio is talking about here is a short write up as well as more information about the Oakeshott typologies. myArmoury is a wealth of knowledge about medieval weaponry for those interested in the history. I would love to see more variations in weapons myself since there are so many that were used. I do understand though that it has to be streamlined or you can start to lose people when weapon liste get to large. As for historical bucklers? I use light shields and say that they do not have to be strapped since they are center grip only as a house rule.
Dotting to see what is suggested. I am doing the same thing with a Ranger for a campaign starting after the New Year. What Blessings are you thinking about? My plan was to go with Good and Nobility. Though I was also looking at dipping into Fighter for possibly 4 levels to get the extra feats starting at 5th level so I can get the Blessings first.
I will believe you on the math side of this Dragonchess. I do have to admit that if the game had been like this when I started to play I probably would not be still involved. I mainly still play truthfully to see old friends, have some fun and drink some beers. Thank you to everyone who contributed something I could use in creating this character.
All of this theory crafting of how to make the most potent characters is highly interesting. @ Darksol: Knowing the DM, we have been playing together for something like 30 years, it will be something along the lines of a 3.x weapon of legacy type deal. At least that makes the most sense since every party member is going to have one item like that. Also considering how much time we played in campaigns in the Realms I can also see it being like a Moonblade, except that you do not unlock the abilities all at once. Heck, I am not even sure if I am going to be starting with the weapon or if over the course of the first adventures we will each be discovering them. @ Dragonchess: What is the reasoning behind keen not being worth it for the bastard sword? Because of it only being x2 or because of the lower beginning threat range?
MyCup, thank you for the reply. Good to hear that the Good Nobility Domain Blessings can work. Dragonchess, I understand that mechanically the scimitar is better for roll playing. My DM challenged me to role play with the bastard sword and I excepted the challenge. It basically comes down to getting a scaling heirloom weapon from the gate. All the players are going to get one.
Thank you for pointing out the FAQ about counting as your own ally. Of course a dip into fighter for 4 levels gets my the heavy armor proficiency as well as lowering ACP and allowing me to move at 30 feet while wearing heavy Mithril armor by the time I reach 7th level. And gets me three feats that I can spend on the Dodge feat tree if so desired. Or continue on the Power Attack one with Cleave and Great Cleave.
Thank you for the reply Darksol. I am looking to more damage with competent defenses. I was also looking for the Fighter dip because then I would not have to spend a feat to get heavy armor proficiency as well as the extra 3 feats if I do go to 4th. Though that does beg the question, if I did go with Mithril heavy armor would it then be considered medium armor or still heavy armor in regards to being able to use my Ranger abilities? I thought that I saw somewhere that I would not be able to use them with this type of armor even if built with Mithril. I have looked at the Infiltrator archtype but does not do what I want with this character. One of the reasons that I looked at going with build was for a character concept that I stole from anime. I was looking at loosely basing this character ability wise for this off of Yato from Noragami that my daughter got me watching. Where he blesses his sword when he is going to fight the Good Blessing works for this even though it does not scale. Plus the Destruction blessing looks like it only helps your allies and not yourself. I am going to leave the buffing to another party member, namely the Skald. I am not one of those who minds the spells since I have been playing Rangers since the early 1980s and 1st Edition. Spells can be fun when you use them in unexpected ways! If only there were an Ranger archtype that gave more feats for say the cmopanion or Favored Terrain.
Looking to go with a Divine Tracker archtype worshiping Ragathiel for the bastard sword EWP feat. He is going to be a NG half-elf and going with TWF sword and board. Here are my questions.
Any ideas would be great.

Because yeah, the Romans did not learn how to make mail after first encountering on Celtic warriors or anything. Or I should say richer ones. Rank and file no armor except for a shield and perhaps a helmet.
I was thinking about adding Wolfen in as NPCs at the least into a campaign and found this thread. Has anyone done anything else for the conversion? I was thinking +2 to strength and constitution with a -2 to charisma for their haughty demeanor and sense of superiority. Leaving them as medium sized but with the ability to wield weapons one size larger as a racial trait. Scent based tracking and bite attack for 1d4 to round it out. Thoughts?

I agree that this should probably be split. Can a moderator do that per chance? I also understand what you are saying and agree with it now that I look at it. I am also willing to bet that Defending would not stack with any magical bonuses to defense added as part of the shield.

I think you are correct about losing people by adding Natty Bumppo and Leatherstocking. I like the Ranger idea though I think he learned to hunt with firearms from a young age.
Are there any published rules on how to make your own class? I know there are rules to create races if you want to. I remember back in 2nd Ed. of D&D there were rules to create a class if you wanted to. Of course that goes back to the days of the classes having different XP to advance. Which was great for thiefs! Not so good for magic users or druids though.
Or more specifically from the movie Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis. I am thinking Musket Master with a couple levels of Ranger thrown in for the TWF with hatchet and knife as well as the wilderness abilities. Definitely a high Dex with decent Con and Str. Any thoughts? Thinking a 20 point build.
Besides the iconics I am interested in seeing where character information for the minis being replaced can be found. An index if you would is what I guess I am looking for. Or is there someway that that info could be put on say the Reaper site in the page for the mini? Module or Adventure Path book by chance?
Irnk, Dead-Eye's Prodigal wrote: That is the NPC guide you hired in the previous issue of the AP to get you across the Crown of the World. I don't recall his name but it is something Skald. Thank you for the fast response Irnk. Does anyone know if he has a stat block by chance. If so I will be picking up the book.
Hello all. I found this PrC when I found Nethys website and had some questions about it. Hopefully some of you might have some experience with it and could tell me their thoughts on it. I do not have the book this is in so I am guessing that there have been no changes. 1. So has anyone used this one yet? What class did you start with for it? 2. Based on the age of the AP it was in I am guessing that it is 3.5 and not up to date in regards to Pathfinder rules. 3. Does anyone think that this would be a worthwhile 3 level dip for a Ranger?

Nial’s story thus far
Nial grew up talking with the people who came to the post running around and learning to fight from the various adventures as much as he spent trying to get out of the lessons his mother insisted he learn. Shortly after reaching his 16th birthday Nial decided to make a name for himself and decided to head towards Sandpoint, the nearest port, to seek his future. I guess this is one way to do it.
Aaron Bitman wrote: If there is some standard form that we should all use, the GM should dictate what that is. I just looked at a standard Pathfinder character sheet, and used that as a guideline for the order to put my info in. Ok, and that sounds about right to me. I was looking yours over but do not want to do anything with a sheet until DM gives a definitive answer on a specific layout. Though I do like yours.
Aaron Bitman wrote: There's more than one way to do it, but my way was to use an alias. Hit "My Account" on the upper-right part of the page, enter your password, and on the left, you'll see a box labeled "Messageboard Aliases." The bottom link in that box says "Create a new messageboard alias." Hit that, and you can enter the name, time zone, and avatar. Once you enter that info, you should see your new alias listed in the aforementioned "Messageboard Aliases" box. You can then hit the "Edit" link next to that alias to enter your stats and fluff. Thank you Aaron. Is there a template that you used for your character or is just something that you created yourself? Can it be copied and pasted onto your profile out of a word doc? Scott
Allan_Treebeard wrote: Hey guys i've sorted my character but how do i get it onto a character sheet like Aaron Bitman had? I am wondering the same thing myself. I have looked around but have not found it yet. THough I did figure out how to create a new log in, I have just not tried it yet. I still don't have a name for my character.
Thank you all for the additional info. I have seen Tre's work beofre and really like it. I also like what he has done with Reaper as well. With all this info I have what I need for my character. I would like to see a book about this area. Any chances of an area that is based roughly on the Irish Celts? Thank you all.
I think I have my concept fleshed out and I am starting to creat the character. Aaron, I am fairly new to the boards and was wondering if you could point to where I can creat a character sheet like you did. I cannot seem to find it yet. I was also wondering how you wanted us to post our characters for you to see Varisian Chronicler? The way Aaron did or another way?
I have a few questions about the Linnorm Kings. I do not have any of the setting books of yet, though I am working on that, and was wondering if I could get a basic rundown on them. 1. From what I have found they are based on the Vikings. 2. Based on the fact that what I have found mentions Kings it is not one unified kingdom but a group of smaller ones that are in competition with each other. 3. What is the physical description for the Linnorm? Anything specific or as a standard human? 4. What are the best book/books to find out more information about them? Any help would be appreciated as I am working on a character to use in RotRL and I saw that Linnorm barbarians are in the area.
