Also, thanks, Madame Endor. Now I can't get the opening music to Disney's Robin Hood out of my head.

"Robin Hood and Little John walkin' through the fo-rest,
Something something something something something something worrrrds
Something something something words, something something some-thing,
Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a daaayyyy."

So you subscribe to the view that Robin is a Kitsune Ranger?

Not sure if there are detailed maps available for this setting and all of my books are packed away so I cannot confirm what is available. I always get a slight Borderlands feel from the Wheel of Time series for both Lastwall, and Mendev for that matter, with the Hold being the Blight. Maybe have a look to see what if anything is available in the way of specific maps for the borderlands or even one of the kingdoms. I seem to remember that Shienar was the Borderland nation most associated with heavy cavalry so that could be a start. For historic references you could also look at what the English did to fortify their border with a and eventually conquer Wales. You could also look at Scotland but that played out in a completely different way and never truly ended the way that it did in Wales.

This sounds interesting. Need to find a little time to read over it.

Storyteller, I would be interested in the Blade Master PRC if you would not mind.

I would be interested as a player in a game. From Oak Lawn.

Just picked this up Friday and I am debating creating a Divine Tracker Ranger to go into the Crimson Templar. EWP for bastard sword is handled plus you get some nice added abilities with the blessings you get. I just wish that you could play it as something besides LG like the Divine Tracker.

Good point Zaister. One can always hope though. I do not have the hardcover of Curse yet.

I have to cast my vote for Second Darkness followed by Legacy of Fire. I know in Second Darkness I would like to see the Chevalier PrC updated to a full 10th level Pathfinder version.

Thank you for the answers. I like Goddity's idea to run some simulations.

Looked at the charts and it did not make sense to have a 12 level character fight a CR 6 foe.

Might have to kick this one back a little bit in the adventure.

If in the course of an adventure you want one of your players to end up having a one on one duel versus an opponent how do you determine what level the BG should be? I ask because it says that the CR is based on the Average Party Level based on X number of characters being in the party. Or did I miss something completely?

For anyone interested in what Legio is talking about here is a short write up as well as more information about the Oakeshott typologies. myArmoury is a wealth of knowledge about medieval weaponry for those interested in the history.

I would love to see more variations in weapons myself since there are so many that were used. I do understand though that it has to be streamlined or you can start to lose people when weapon liste get to large.

As for historical bucklers? I use light shields and say that they do not have to be strapped since they are center grip only as a house rule.

Dotting to see what is suggested.

I am doing the same thing with a Ranger for a campaign starting after the New Year. What Blessings are you thinking about? My plan was to go with Good and Nobility.

Though I was also looking at dipping into Fighter for possibly 4 levels to get the extra feats starting at 5th level so I can get the Blessings first.

I will believe you on the math side of this Dragonchess.

I do have to admit that if the game had been like this when I started to play I probably would not be still involved. I mainly still play truthfully to see old friends, have some fun and drink some beers.

Thank you to everyone who contributed something I could use in creating this character.

All of this theory crafting of how to make the most potent characters is highly interesting.

@ Darksol: Knowing the DM, we have been playing together for something like 30 years, it will be something along the lines of a 3.x weapon of legacy type deal. At least that makes the most sense since every party member is going to have one item like that. Also considering how much time we played in campaigns in the Realms I can also see it being like a Moonblade, except that you do not unlock the abilities all at once. Heck, I am not even sure if I am going to be starting with the weapon or if over the course of the first adventures we will each be discovering them.

@ Dragonchess: What is the reasoning behind keen not being worth it for the bastard sword? Because of it only being x2 or because of the lower beginning threat range?

MyCup, thank you for the reply. Good to hear that the Good Nobility Domain Blessings can work.

Dragonchess, I understand that mechanically the scimitar is better for roll playing. My DM challenged me to role play with the bastard sword and I excepted the challenge. It basically comes down to getting a scaling heirloom weapon from the gate. All the players are going to get one.

Thank you for pointing out the FAQ about counting as your own ally. Of course a dip into fighter for 4 levels gets my the heavy armor proficiency as well as lowering ACP and allowing me to move at 30 feet while wearing heavy Mithril armor by the time I reach 7th level. And gets me three feats that I can spend on the Dodge feat tree if so desired. Or continue on the Power Attack one with Cleave and Great Cleave.

Thank you for the reply Darksol.

I am looking to more damage with competent defenses.

I was also looking for the Fighter dip because then I would not have to spend a feat to get heavy armor proficiency as well as the extra 3 feats if I do go to 4th.

Though that does beg the question, if I did go with Mithril heavy armor would it then be considered medium armor or still heavy armor in regards to being able to use my Ranger abilities? I thought that I saw somewhere that I would not be able to use them with this type of armor even if built with Mithril.

I have looked at the Infiltrator archtype but does not do what I want with this character.

One of the reasons that I looked at going with build was for a character concept that I stole from anime. I was looking at loosely basing this character ability wise for this off of Yato from Noragami that my daughter got me watching. Where he blesses his sword when he is going to fight the Good Blessing works for this even though it does not scale. Plus the Destruction blessing looks like it only helps your allies and not yourself. I am going to leave the buffing to another party member, namely the Skald.

I am not one of those who minds the spells since I have been playing Rangers since the early 1980s and 1st Edition. Spells can be fun when you use them in unexpected ways!

If only there were an Ranger archtype that gave more feats for say the cmopanion or Favored Terrain.

Looking to go with a Divine Tracker archtype worshiping Ragathiel for the bastard sword EWP feat. He is going to be a NG half-elf and going with TWF sword and board.

Here are my questions.
1. I am thinking of going with the Good and Nobility Blessings. Or are there better ones to choose from?
2. Is it worth dipping into Fighter for 2 to 4 levels to get the additional feats to go with the Dodge feat tree. Also to get armor training at 3rd would be the main reason to go to 4th as a fighter.

Any ideas would be great.

What about Andoran? Or Nidal?

For Andoran, I opted for the "uncivilized" version, before or during the conquest of those lands by Taldor. So i used leather armor, spears, short bows, with heavy use of feathers as ornamentation. I also had the barbaric Andorans dye themselves primary colors (just because).

I was aiming, but probably not succeeding as i didn't research it, for barbaric Irish or Welsh warriors

The most common color for Celts was blue, and armor was never used in Celtic society. Feathers were also a bit of a rarity. The decision is ultimately up to you though.

Because yeah, the Romans did not learn how to make mail after first encountering on Celtic warriors or anything. Or I should say richer ones. Rank and file no armor except for a shield and perhaps a helmet.

I agree with the fact that Ulfen wear a form of mail, either a shirt or full suit. I disagree with no shield since they are based on Vikings who by all means used shields. The most common weapon would be the spear for the rank and file with swords being regulated to the elite. And use axes as well.

I was thinking about adding Wolfen in as NPCs at the least into a campaign and found this thread. Has anyone done anything else for the conversion? I was thinking +2 to strength and constitution with a -2 to charisma for their haughty demeanor and sense of superiority. Leaving them as medium sized but with the ability to wield weapons one size larger as a racial trait. Scent based tracking and bite attack for 1d4 to round it out. Thoughts?

So to add on to this discussion in the form of a question. Since a shield can be enchanted as a weapon could you just add Defender to it and then run the enhancement up to max and thus end up spending less money?

This should probably be another post altogether.

The armor and weapon Enhancement bonuses are separate. If you max the AC bonus it does nothing for the Defending weapon property, and vice versa. You wouldn't be able to save any money and worse, you would typically lose the AC bonus from the shield because you need to attack with a shield bash to get Defending to function.

I agree that this should probably be split. Can a moderator do that per chance?

I also understand what you are saying and agree with it now that I look at it. I am also willing to bet that Defending would not stack with any magical bonuses to defense added as part of the shield.

I think you lost everyone with a reference to natty bumpo....

Thanks for the fun memory. : )

Ranger for sure. Maybe guide template, with amateur gun smith feat. I always felt that character was the classic scout/guide who picked up firearms use later on.

I think you are correct about losing people by adding Natty Bumppo and Leatherstocking.

I like the Ranger idea though I think he learned to hunt with firearms from a young age.

Okay. I will pick up a copy and look at that.

Are there any published rules on how to make your own class? I know there are rules to create races if you want to. I remember back in 2nd Ed. of D&D there were rules to create a class if you wanted to. Of course that goes back to the days of the classes having different XP to advance. Which was great for thiefs! Not so good for magic users or druids though.

Or more specifically from the movie Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis. I am thinking Musket Master with a couple levels of Ranger thrown in for the TWF with hatchet and knife as well as the wilderness abilities. Definitely a high Dex with decent Con and Str.

Any thoughts?

Thinking a 20 point build.

Besides the iconics I am interested in seeing where character information for the minis being replaced can be found. An index if you would is what I guess I am looking for.

Or is there someway that that info could be put on say the Reaper site in the page for the mini? Module or Adventure Path book by chance?

I will look into getting both books Necromancer. Thank you for the quick reply!

Evening all. Just getting back into Pathfinder and I am looking for the best source of information on Lastwall. What book or books have the most inforamtion. I also did a search and see that The Carrion Crown AP might have something on Lastwall?

That is the NPC guide you hired in the previous issue of the AP to get you across the Crown of the World. I don't recall his name but it is something Skald.

Thank you for the fast response Irnk. Does anyone know if he has a stat block by chance. If so I will be picking up the book.

Quick question, who is the character pictured on the cover dual wielding the sword and axe with the round shield slung over his back? I have ben away for awhile and am really behind on everything but the cover caught my eye.

Hello all. I found this PrC when I found Nethys website and had some questions about it. Hopefully some of you might have some experience with it and could tell me their thoughts on it. I do not have the book this is in so I am guessing that there have been no changes.

1. So has anyone used this one yet? What class did you start with for it?

2. Based on the age of the AP it was in I am guessing that it is 3.5 and not up to date in regards to Pathfinder rules.

3. Does anyone think that this would be a worthwhile 3 level dip for a Ranger?

Where in the NW suburbs? I used to drive to Arlington Heights once a week from the South suburbs for a game and I am looking for one again.

Let's see if this works. My first draft, and hopefully only draft, for my character

Nial’s story thus far
Nial was born to adventuring parents. His father, Oengus Menn mac Conall, is a renegade Ulfen from the Lands of the Linnorm Kings who left after refusing orders to slaughter the women and children of a rival King. More of an opposite could not be found for Oengus then Nial’s mother, Larali, a Half-Elven member of the Pathfinder Society who first me Oengus while she was just beginning to explore the ancient ruins of Varisia. In time the two became partners in exploration and later lovers. After a number of years of adventuring the two established a trading post in the wild upland area of Varisia within a couple of days travel to any number of ancient ruins. After the establishment of the trading post Oengus and Larali had their first and only child, a son that they named Nial mac Oengus in the tradition of his father’s people.

Nial grew up talking with the people who came to the post running around and learning to fight from the various adventures as much as he spent trying to get out of the lessons his mother insisted he learn. Shortly after reaching his 16th birthday Nial decided to make a name for himself and decided to head towards Sandpoint, the nearest port, to seek his future.

I guess this is one way to do it.

If there is some standard form that we should all use, the GM should dictate what that is. I just looked at a standard Pathfinder character sheet, and used that as a guideline for the order to put my info in.

Ok, and that sounds about right to me. I was looking yours over but do not want to do anything with a sheet until DM gives a definitive answer on a specific layout. Though I do like yours.

There's more than one way to do it, but my way was to use an alias. Hit "My Account" on the upper-right part of the page, enter your password, and on the left, you'll see a box labeled "Messageboard Aliases." The bottom link in that box says "Create a new messageboard alias." Hit that, and you can enter the name, time zone, and avatar. Once you enter that info, you should see your new alias listed in the aforementioned "Messageboard Aliases" box. You can then hit the "Edit" link next to that alias to enter your stats and fluff.

Thank you Aaron. Is there a template that you used for your character or is just something that you created yourself? Can it be copied and pasted onto your profile out of a word doc?

Hey guys i've sorted my character but how do i get it onto a character sheet like Aaron Bitman had?

I am wondering the same thing myself. I have looked around but have not found it yet. THough I did figure out how to create a new log in, I have just not tried it yet. I still don't have a name for my character.

Thank you all for the additional info. I have seen Tre's work beofre and really like it. I also like what he has done with Reaper as well. With all this info I have what I need for my character. I would like to see a book about this area. Any chances of an area that is based roughly on the Irish Celts?

Thank you all.

I think I have my concept fleshed out and I am starting to creat the character.

Aaron, I am fairly new to the boards and was wondering if you could point to where I can creat a character sheet like you did. I cannot seem to find it yet.

I was also wondering how you wanted us to post our characters for you to see Varisian Chronicler? The way Aaron did or another way?

That is exactly what I am looking for King of Vrock, you rock!

I have a few questions about the Linnorm Kings. I do not have any of the setting books of yet, though I am working on that, and was wondering if I could get a basic rundown on them.

1. From what I have found they are based on the Vikings.

2. Based on the fact that what I have found mentions Kings it is not one unified kingdom but a group of smaller ones that are in competition with each other.

3. What is the physical description for the Linnorm? Anything specific or as a standard human?

4. What are the best book/books to find out more information about them?

Any help would be appreciated as I am working on a character to use in RotRL and I saw that Linnorm barbarians are in the area.

Since everyone else is posting what they are thinking of playing I am leaning towards a human Barbarian of Linnorm descent mixed with a quarter elven for a little flavor. Though he will not stay a Barbarian for the whole time.

Varisian Chronicler wrote:

The standard traits are here: paizo.com/traits. It's made up of the traits in that link you gave, minus the regional traits.

The regional feats from the player's guide is the list you choose your bonus feat from.

Celestial Half-Porc and Zaskar24, you're the first two on my reserve list.

Sounds good to me. I have downloaded both of these already and also have a working concept for a character.

I would be interested in playing as well since I cannot seem to find a game in my area. I just wanted to confirm that the trait is from the list in the RotRL Players Guide. Let me know what you will need from me next if I can play.

Anyone? I cannot believe that there is no one in the Chicago area looking for a player.

I was just looking to see if there are any Pathfinder games looking for a player in the Chicago area. I have been playing D&D in one form or another on and off for over 25 years as well as other games and settings. I am on the South side but am willing to travel to play.
