He looks around this way and that, "Don't suppose this thing would have any reason to keep loot, but maybe it might keep shiny stuff somewhere, or have a nest, or store its prey somewhere to 'mature'. I know there was stuff I killed back on the streets that was too tough to even tear a hunk out of unless you left it for a few days first - I can only imagine with the stuff that must live down here..."

Yurian crouches down next to the sinkhole, "Actually, I'd be fine going down too. Seems like we haven't had a lot of luck finding this wizard's tower above ground; maybe he headquarters underground."

"Course, I don't like what that dragon said about that invisible barrier; makes it sound far too much like there is no way off this island. Anybody else ever hear that story about the wizard with a world in a bottle, sitting in his laboratory? It's pretty hard to find the wizard's home when we're already there, and this whole island is just sitting in a jar on his desk."

Ability score bonus every odd level still? It'll be a dex bonus for me, obviously.

I was going to ask Vlad some rogue stuff, because for some reason I forgot that he'd dropped out. That will likely mean that if I do go with an archetype, I'll need to choose carefully, as we'll still someone to be able to do Roguey things...

According to the official rules, which unchained classes can take archetypes varies from class to class. Monk can't take any of the old Archetypes, but Rogue can take any of them; unless it's a house rule of yours that they cannot...

Yurian scoops up the short sword and checks the blade for rust and nicks. (Is there a scabbard?). He picks up the ring as well, giving it a close examination for any 'special' properties.

"Wow. That was... different than killing something with a bow. I could feel it moving, through the sword. It's whole body was vibrating, reacting, and then it just... stopped."

"I can't believe Vladamir is dead. It was so cold." He goes silent for a few minutes of walking. "Can we find somewhere warm? Or build a fire or something? My fingers aren't black or anything yet, but I've seen people lose the tips of their noses and ears over less than what we felt last night. And I want to check my toes. I don't want to lose my toes."

Oh, here's my level 3 up. Wasn't that long ago; it's on the same page. No mention of a Stat increase. What was the original point buy?

Edit: Ten point buy. Yurian still adds up to 10 points, so it looks like I did forget it at level three. Consider the listed increase his level three bonus instead of the typical level 4 bonus I quoted.

Cool. I had forgotten that particular adjustment, but it rings bells now that you mention it. The increase did nothing for me at this level anyway, so it makes little difference.

I can't remember if I included it or not during my level three upgrade. I'll have to go back and check what my original stats were, if I can find them, or my level 3 level up and see if I did include the increase or not. Either way, not a big deal at this level, as it wouldn't provide a bonus until at least one more increase anyway.

Yurian scrambles to his feet, trying to kick himself free of his bedroll, and spending about as much of his effort trying to detangle himself from his blanket as he does bringing his crossbow up to bear. At some point in his shuffle, the crossbow gets pointed in the creature's general direction and goes off. The arrow sails about a yard high, and ends up evoking a distant clicking and clacking as it careens through the dark words.

Yurian watches with delight as his shot miraculously seems to hit at the join of two plates on the main carapace, and then sink in deep, seemingly without resistance. The boy lets out a whoop of delight as a result of the lucky shot.

Yurian lets out a little squeak as he sees the creature emerge from the water, then he yells out a warning to Xipe, in case she hadn't seen it, and probably foolishly calling attention to her in the process. He dashes forward a bit to get a better line of sight on the monster (and within the 80 ft range increment of his crossbow).
