If we are going beyond core, and I stay with rogue, I will probably go unchained. I too like the Background skill system. I haven't used any other parts of unchained.

With switching to non-PFS, will we get all the treasure as listed in the scenario (vs how PFS does it)? Also, is crafting now a possibility?

In regards to xp, you could consider to maintain the PFS rule of leveling every 3 scenarios to keep things simple.

Xaaven hands Tsakolk the lantern and watches as he begins following the path that was melted in the ice. He glances over towards Natalya to see how she is reacting. "I think Tsakolk can handle this. I'll just wait here to make sure she doesn't try to pull something on us." How long of a path to the figurehead?

"We are Pathfinders sent to find a cure to a curse that affects Skelg, and now me also. We are stricken with a cold that cannot be warded off. Do you know anything of this? We are also looking for Skelg's shieldwarden, Tirfyr. Have you seen him?" Xaaven asks hoping for a positive response, especially regarding the curse.

Xaaven is a little startled when Tsakolk comments on the mask, having expected him to be busy starting up the stairs.

"That's ok. I think I can handle it," he says sheepishly as he gets ready to leave. "Looks like we have only one way to go," he says pointing up the stairs.

Xaaven shakes his head "no" in response to Daereon's question, his eyes fixed on the gold mask. He carefully approaches the body and removes the mask. "I wonder how much this is worth? Perhaps Skelg would want it as a trophy," he says to himself as he inspects the mask.

Appraise: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 I apparently have no idea. Why am I not surprised.

His eyes grow large as he tries to hide his excitement. "Is this really what I think it is? What is such a relic doing here and how did they come upon it? I must do some more research on this once I return."

He then slips it in his pack quickly, hoping that no one noticed, and waits for Tsakolk to climb up the ladder.

Xaaven walks over to where his arrow is stuck in the side of the ship. Climbing onto one of the benches, he tries to pull it out to see if it is still usable but it breaks as he does so. Putting his bow away, he pulls out his rapier. He searches the bodies while waiting for everyone to get healed and ready to exit the hold.

Xaaven moves down the stairs to get a clearer shot at the remaining creature. "Keep up the good work everyone. You've almost taken care of all of them." He waits to see if his companions will finish it off before it can attack again, nocking an arrow just in case. Delay until before "A" attacks.

Yeah, I got a little impatient. In retrospect, I should have just moved up and waited for things to clear up.

Trying to assist the attack, Xaaven fires his bow at the creature next to Aerith but it flies past.

Xaaven wakes feeling the cold again. Wrapping himself in a blanket, he waits to enter the portal.

Following the group to the ship, he searches the drum and then the trapdoor, hoping to find a cure to his malady.

With everything going on trying to determine the outcome of our battle, I forgot to search for my arrows afterwards. If I'm allowed to retcon ... (low is lost)

Xaaven returns to the manor. Still feeling chilled, he asks for some hot stew and washes it down with hot tea. Unable to shake the cold, he asks Tyros for some blankets. He begin to feels weak, as the cold saps his strength. Wrapped in blankets, he sits in a chair by the tapestry to see if the lantern will open the portal. He feels the blast of cold come from it, yet he feels warmer as the affliction seems to be lifted. He stands, letting the blankets fall to the floor.

"I don't think I'll be needed all of these now. I was getting worried I wouldn't be able to join you." He looks into the portal and the cold land beyond with a concerned look. He turns to Tyros. ""I really don't want to experience that cold again. Do you have any cold-weather outfits we could borrow for our trip?"

Xaaven looks at the two late comers. "While Ilandro tries to get everyone to their feet, do you mind helping me search the boat?" he says as he starts down the stairs. He checks to make sure the entrance to the boat is not trapped and then lets them enter first before following and searching.

After searching the loft, Xaaven looks disappointed. "We have the lantern, but nothing about how to reverse the effects. Maybe Bengeirr knows something."

He watches hopefully as Daereon attempts to stop the bleeding. "It looks like that cut is too deep. I'm not sure if I'll have any more luck, but let me try. Otherwise, use a potion on Ilandro if he's still alive and maybe he can save Bengeirr."

He moves over to attempt to stablize Bengeirr.

Heal: 1d20 ⇒ 20 lol, not sure I wanted to waste a 20 on that but so be it.

I'm not sure if using pregens to replace a killed character is the same as using one if a person has to leave the table for RL issues. I'll leave it up to you. It does seem that the GM has the ability to exercise their discretion to handle situations.

I'd like to stick with rogue. As long as we pick up martial characters I don't think it matters if we switch.

As I understand the rules, you can only flank in melee. Being able to add sneak attack damage at range if within 30' would only apply if target was denied dex bonus.

In retrospect, the only thing I could have done differently was to try to climb up a support beam to access the balcony to engage in melee. However, based on our rolling, that would have only sped up my demise.

Admittedly, this is only the second time I've played a rogue so I'm open to suggestions. However, in addition to bad rolling, I don't think this encounter worked well for us tacticly. I was using my bow in hopes to take a few hp of off bbeg while his henchmen were dispatched. Then, the stairway didn't allow much space to get up and into a position to flank. It also didn't help that we were down to 4 players.

"No!" Xaaven screams when Tsakolk goes down. He begins to panic as he sees his companions go down knowing that he will come to the same fate if he can't take out Bengeirr. Not wanting to face him head-on, he fires another arrow.

The dice gods have not been kind to us and obviously, losing some players didn't help either.

I'd be fine if we dropped PFS. If we continued as is, we wouldn't be able to use these characters outside of this scenario arc anyway. We could then play the scenarios again for PFS credit. It would also allow us to start again at the beginning of this encounter with a new group. The only issue would be to find others who are ok with that plan. I honestly would like to continue with this character concept to see where it goes.

I have 20' speed w/o my pack. The stairs look a bit crowded at the moment for me to get by for flanking.

Sorry for the delay. Busier than expected weekend and I didn't pay close enough attention to which games were going to be delayed.

As his companions move to block the warriors, Xaaven hears the man in the loft. He raises his bow towards the man. "Bengeirr, I presume. We need a word with you. Call your men off and don't move."
