For simplicity sake, Azira and Wulfric will both just take 10 on their perform checks (unless/until it doesn't seem to be helping anything); that puts Azira at a 20 perform [sing] and Wulfric at a 21 perform [oratory].

"I'll pass word around for the soldiers to bundle up, if they can," Wulfric offers before cheerily trotting off to make the rounds. His first stop is to grab his own cold weather gear which he quickly dons before continuing on to alert the rest of the knights.

Wulfric studies Verene’s face as she emerges first from the meeting with the queen. His eyes narrow slightly with some kind of recognition—or perhaps a suspicion. “How did the meeting go?” he asks with a hint of concern.

Wulfric looks with great curiosity through the doorway, but stops with Commander Tirabade to wait for Azira and the others to return from their audience with the queen.

Yeah, I expected some similarities, I just had to tease Thesius a little bit because his last sentence is almost word for word the same as Azira’s, lol. And, yes, Merixia’s “democracy, hell yeah” was pretty great too.

Among the weary warriors returning to the Defender's Heart is a slender but handsome Ulfen man carrying some kind of banner. He carefully secures it in a corner before smiling at the sight of the celebration. He waggles his fingers and magically cleans himself and the soldiers with him, then heads to the bar for a drink.

A silver holy symbol of Iomedae hangs prominently on his chest and its only a matter of time before Azira grabs his hand and calls him to take a turn as her partner. He freezes for a moment--intimidated by the woman's beauty, and the grace she's already demonstrated on the dance floor--then empties his cup and follows her with a nervous smile.

He's thankful that the song is one he recognizes, and he does his best to keep up.
perform (dance): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Riding high on the joy of the day's success, and trying desperately not to embarrass himself so publicly, he dances as well as he ever has, maybe better. When the song ends he even receives some applause. Afterwards, he grabs another drink and then finds himself in the unusual position of potential partners being nervous to dance with him.

Bahaha! How's that for an introduction?

I was excited when I read that the GM was going to PM people as they got accepted, but now I'm just compulsively checking my PMs instead of compulsively checking this thread. Lol.

My background is finished and posted now. I tried to keep it fairly concise since you'll have a lot of them to read through, but I can add more details (and names) if you want things you can use as hooks (though you usually don't need those for APs).

@Robert Henry- Thank you for being keeper of the sacred list, but to be consistent with the other entries mine should read:
Giant Halfling: EST, Wulfric Stonehelm Male Tiefling (hungerseed), Ranger (shapeshifter, wild stalker)/Druid (feral shifter) 1

I got my appearance added to my profile and a good chunk of my background, but I'm falling asleep at the computer as I type right now. I'll finish him up tomorrow.

Here is GiantHalfling’s submission. I’m in EST. I went with the guardian trait because I figured I would most likely take the guardian path for even more durability (since I plan to be at the frontline of every combat), but if the GM wants to go with one of each trait I’d be happy to switch to stolen fury or touched by divinity if it helps (I’m thinking I might dual path into champion or hierophant anyways). All my crunch should be done except that I have a bit of money left to spend on sundries (some rations, a couple scrolls, maybe some holy water or alchemist’s fire). I didn’t have time to post any fluff yet but I should have that up tomorrow.

Here's Greta's boy-toy. I'm out of time to post fluff right now but he's a handsome and charming man who enjoys dancing and reciting poetry. He gets teased a bit by the other crusaders because he's not very strong and "fights like a girl" but he has the confidence to take that in stride, and to be with a woman who is dramatically stronger than he is.

Hey all, sorry for my lull too. I've been dealing with some family stuff and a situation at work that's still ongoing. I really hate to do this but I need to lighten my PbP load so I'm going to bow out of this game. I sincerely hope that things stabilize for the rest of you and your more streamlined group will be able to generate some new momentum. Happy gaming.

Rook turns slowly to look at the raven-haired woman. Its difficult to tell if he's really processing what she's saying, but when she finishes he nods and lifts his mace up to a ready position from where it was hanging limply in his hand.

Wulfric, still mostly lost in thought (or shock), stands passively by, waiting for the others to decide where they'll head next.

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

"Oh..." Rook replies with some surprise, "I could, I guess... unless the dwarf of someone wants to carry it?"

”Bigger on the inside?” Rook questions, showing his first real sign of interest in anything since being so rattled by the macabre scene in the other room. “How big? Maybe we could use it to transport wood, if we find the storage room… or if we started smashing every table and chair we come across?”

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

The unkempt Ulfen stares off at nothing while the others talk. When the weaselly man leaves to behead the savaged corpse he mutters to those still in the room, "you shouldn't risk getting bit... kill it from a distance, or find some way to burn it up."

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

The unkempt Ulfen remains in the doorway, quietly watching the scene unfold. There's a glimmer of recognition somewhere in the back of his mind at the mention of ghouls, but everything still feels disconnected to him, as if he were watching a scene far away through a spyglass and aware that he was missing key details playing out beyond its narrow circle of vision.

"Ghouls, yes," he mutters, barely aware that the words are coming from his own mouth, "and ghosts... positive energy, the healing light, it hurts them both, and sometimes cleanses haunted places..."

Sorry I've been quiet the last few days, I've been coughing my lungs out and loopy on cough medicine (its not Covid, I got tested). I'm hoping to feel up to posting this afternoon/evening but please feel free to bot me if you need to.

Rook jerks back to the present at Slip's touch and looks around as if he'd just been woken from a very deep sleep. He seems utterly confused by the squirrely man's shouted warning, but when the small deaf man asks if he's ready to move on he nods and follows him out into the hallway.

He seems to understand the report on the inhabitant of the next chamber, and he responds by quietly placing his small blessing on Vex and the dwarf. casting guidance on them both if there's time

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Rook continues to stand motionless and silent, staring at the grizzly scene of the half-eaten corpse and jagged-toothed man. He seems oblivious to the conversations, and shouting, going on around him.

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Rook seems entirely unaware of the conversation around him as he tries to process what he's just seen.

Wulfric sees the dwarf charge ahead and hears the snap the accompanies the rattle of his chain. Wanting to make sure none of his allies are in need of healing, he rushes in too. He stops short, however, when he sees what lies inside.

Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Words fail him and he stands motionless as things play out.

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

To his own surprise, Rook mutters, "Chatty's right, we should move on."

He looks around again as everyone falls back into their usual order and adds, "this chute wasn't made for... bodies... there should be a room nearby with the wood or coal that's supposed to be dropped down it. We'll find it while we're exploring and then we can figure out what to do about the boiler."

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Rook freezes in his tracks and stares at the roofline while the others check the room.

was that real or a trick of the imagination... should I say something... I really didn't get a decent look at it at all... if it was just a trick of the light and I say something I may lose some credibility...

His thoughts are interrupted when Doc suddenly steps past him and vomits on the ground. He turns to see where she was coming from and then feels his own stomach twist at the sight of the pool of blood.

Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

He's able to keep his reaction under control and as the others begin inventorying supplies he warns, "I can't be certain but there may have been something on the roof of the courtyard. We should keep one eye behind us as we explore, in case there's something stalking us."

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

if the yellow mist surrounds us... well... since the yellow mist surrounds this whole building, its only a matter of time before we have to either resign ourselves to living out the remainder of our lives inside it, or confront the figure dwelling in it... I'm not sure pretending otherwise does us any good... although, perhaps maybe we might possibly find something inside that will enable us to defeat it... maybe...

Rook continues quietly passing out blessings as others deal with the door.

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Rook makes it a point to remain outwardly stoic as his heart begins to race at the sight of the yellow fog.

could it be that the dream I awoke from was not truly a dream but the last lingering bit of a memory... I fell asleep once we were relatively safe, maybe I didn't really wake from that and this is another dream... maybe none of this is real and I'm completely mad... I suppose there will be plenty of time to question reality later, for now its probably best to do what I can to keep us alive...

As their exploration slows, the unkempt Ulfen sets up casting minor blessings on as many of his companions as he can.

I'm just going to start casting guidance on someone every round that we don't double move, in the hopes of having it active on everyone already when we get into trouble. I'll start with Asrat, to hopefully help him not fall, then work through everyone else (but skipping Vex and anyone else Slip covers).

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Rook raises an eyebrow at the squirrely man's casual comfort with assuming a new alias and starting fresh.

that sounds like the kind of thing someone who's been in some trouble would say... one more confirmation that we need to keep an eye on him...

Concerns aside, there were more pressing concerns so he readies his shield, picks up his mace, and falls into line as the group sets out. When the reach the first door he does his best to assist Doc in checking for 'surprises'.

Sorry, my rules-fu is rusty... if the spells are ones that I can cast (eg if Doc is right about them being divine spells and they're on my list) can I identify them just by reading them?

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Thanks!

I'll claim the light wooden shield (which puts me back to exactly the gear I purchased, lol).

Rook listens carefully to all that the captain explains, and to Doc's speculations. He considers offering to see what effect channeling energy might have on it but decides it would be wiser to conserve his resources for their scouting exploration. Instead, he makes a mental note to offer the option after their return, if he still has energy available then.

That decided, he joins in waiting for Chatty to unlock the bars.

Sorry, I would like the heavy mace, yes. Thank you. Was there a light shield or buckler available? If so, I'll grab one of those for my armor piece, but I don't want a heavy shield because then I would have to screw around with dropping and retrieving my weapon to cast spells.

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Yes happy holidays, all. I've been on a big Axis and Allies kick and got some upgraded pieces for the Global 1940 version, and a rare edition of an older version with differently colored pieces (which I'd been looking for).

Rook quietly observes all that transpires in the camp, making notes to himself about the character of both his hosts and his current companions. When they enter the chapel he examines all the symbols closely and feels a strange mixture of comfort and unease. Once his amulet is returned, he uses it to channel as much energy as he can, bathing all those resting in its healing glow. Then he tucks the medallion into his shirt and falls into a deep sleep.

In the morning he thanks the woman for the soup and, after hungrily slurping it down, moves to a corner to quietly pray. He prepares a spell for making water and then asks one the servers, "is there a clean container where I could summon some drinking water? I think I should be able to create ten or twenty gallons pretty quickly."

I'm down for heading whichever direction whenever Clint's ready to move on.

I'm sorry for the extended silence- RL has been even more hectic than I anticipated. I'm over the hump now and hope to have posts up in all my games tomorrow, but certainly won't complain about Clint taking some time off. (My SO and I went through something similar, you have my sympathy.)

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

My schedule from now until Christmas is pretty hectic. I’ll try to sneak in posts (mostly from my phone) whenever I can but feel free to bot me if necessary.

Wulfric hands over the chainshirt he only just put on and the jagged shard of metal he carries like a knife with little hesitation but when they demand his medallion he pauses. "That's very important to me..." he says with clear concern, even though he's not entirely certain why. "Surely a simple necklace poses no danger to a group of armed guards?"

sense motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

What exactly does 'cleanse' mean? They're going to wash it and give it back to me, or there going to toss it in a giant fire so there's zero chance of it ever carrying any corruption anywhere?

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

The blonde-maned man gratefully accepts the chainshirt and hastily pulls it on. He nods at Vex's question and grabs the feet of one of the other doppelgänger to begin dragging it back towards the guards.

i'm willing to get in harm's way but I won't be very effective in combat no matter what weapon you give me. I think probably (for now) Ryzel, Doc, and Asrat should divvy up the daggers however seems best to them?

Rook steps up to join the crowd, and reaches out to touch the black-haired woman, Vex, with a minor blessing.

The unkempt Ulfen man remains quiet for most of the discussion as he careful weighs all that is said. He opens his mouth as if to speak on the matter but then his forehead scrunches in incredulity at the sketchy man's comment. "I don't remember much about my abilities, but I'm pretty certain that I don't conjure the flesh and blood of any gods..." he answers, clearly distracted from what should be the more pressing matter.

"Oh, and I remember armor like that too..." he adds with a gesture towards the chain shirt, "is that my size? I think that might be mine, or one like it..."

From his position behind the dwarf and the black-haired woman, Rook cranes his neck to catch a glimpse of the injured woman. "Why don't we take her back to those guards?" he asks, "maybe they can help her get out of here..."

if she actually is an injured old woman, and if she's one of those things they'll make helpful allies...

Rook thinks for a moment as a look of confusion and concern settles in on his face. "I... don't really remember..." he confesses, "I think they could, but... I have to... ask to be able to do that, when I... pray in the morning. And, I didn't do that last time I prayed? I can make light... and fix things, I think?"

Rook continues holding his improvised weapon nervously at the ready while they wait for the black haired woman to lure whatever she's fighting out into the hallway.

"Do you need any assistance?" Rook calls to the man in the room.

I can't even see into the room from where I'm standing, and Asrat didn't exactly call for help so I'll just ready an action to attack anything that comes at me aggressively?

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Rook backs away from the crossbowmen, carefully keeping an eye on them even while the rest of the group is searching the storage rooms. Once the group has moved sufficiently far away from the barricade and all are gathered in the hall he focuses on the medallion again and releases another wave of healing light.

Sorry for the delay- things have gotten busy at work with the holidays and end of year paperwork and whatnot (and also I got caught up in a big game of axis and allies over the weekend). I should be posting in all my games at some point later today.

And, marching order looks good- my damage output is bad enough that I don’t really need to be near the front (though I had picked up one of the improvised weapons), and being near the middle helps me hit everyone when I channel.

"Sir..." Rook says tentatively, "I'm at a loss as to how to proceed... you say not to come any closer, but you shot that woman for moving farther away... are we to just stand here forever?"

"We did kill one of those creatures but it was down in the basement and in order to get its body as proof someone would have to climb back down through the vent again, and we'd need rope to drag it up with."

male, human, Bard 3 | HP 24/24 | AC 16 (t11, ff15) | CMD 13 | Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +4 | bardic performance 11/11 | perception +7, sense motive +11; initiative +1 | active effects: --

Lol, probably the deaf guy? Wulfric's friendly though, and dressed like a normal person instead of a mental patient.

"I'm dressed in normal clothes..." Rook reasons quietly, "if they're here hunting the rats maybe I can come get them to shoot this one?" Hoping for the best, he steps out into the hallway with his empty hands raised up above his shoulders.

"Please," he says loudly enough for the crossbowmen to hear, "we've cornered some kind of especially awful rat under an old boiler... can you please come and kill it?"
