Thanks for posting for me there Giri. As I said to Lith privately, my time has been more committed to maintaining my health (I'll spare you the details) and my job. I've really enjoyed playing with you guys and would have loved to have seen this out to the end, but priorities change and I don't want that to impact you guys. "Are you certain Thorgull?"

Turning his attention back to the woman, Virgil decides to test her knowledge.

"If you are who you claim to be, then tell us of your family. Any woman of station knows her lineage well, and you should easily recount yours?"

Turning his attention to the woman, Virgil offers a faux bow.

Hey folks, my posting is going to be sporadic for the next four weeks I'm afraid. I'm currently on the fortnight run up to the Scottish Pathfinder Society convention, which is taking up most of my non-work time at the moment. Seeing there new enemies, Virgil braces himself and draws the longsword he retrieved earlier. Despite feeling uncomfortable with the weight and heft of the weapon, the duellist readies himself to strike.

Is it fair to assume that as they have been identified as fey that Virgil could reasonably assume the cold iron longsword would be the better item to use? I don't want to metagame anything.

I got round to sorting my background skills. I've taken Perform (dance) and Stealth (as I already had Knowledge (nobility) which can now count as a background skill).

I also applied the +2 resistance bonus to my saves from the cloak of the yeti.

Virgil takes the two potions from the guards body and drinks them, whincing as his wounds begin knitting up and stretching the healed muscles. Despite a few remaining scratches, the duelist nods that he is okay to continue.

Unless anyone objections, he straps the masterwork cold iron longsword and it's scabbard to his belt.

"Looks like I took a couple of knicks. Zadok, please could you tend to them or would you rather I made use of some of the acquired items?"

The swordsman assists with quickly collecting and sorting the equipment from the guards.

Realising there are still numerous guards to work through, Virgil summons the power of the Black Rider, his muscles tensing as mythic power races through them, empowered he lashes out with his rapier.

Spend one mythic power to use 'Sudden Attack' against pink guard if he is standing, getting an attack as a swift action, rolling twice to hit and adding my mythic tier to damage.

The duellist presses his attack, his eyes narrowing at he darts forward with his rapier again.

The duellist wipes off his blade and scoops up the coins for the groups collection. With his rapier still in hand Virgil moves to investigate the dog sheds.

I meant fight defensively, I've always allowed it because technically you can 'attack a space' and dropping a standard action for +2 AC seems reasonable, but not to worry, it didn't matter.

Ducking under the battleaxe, Virgil steps in and thrusts upwards at the troll creature, heeding Thorgull's cries.

If the creature has regeneration or fast healing, I've included my mythic ability that impacts that.

Punishing Blow: Any opponent you hit with a melee or ranged attack loses the benefits of regeneration and fast healing for 1 round. In addition, if you score a critical hit against the target, it loses the benefit of its damage reduction for 1 round. A creature whose regeneration can't be suppressed or ignored (such as the tarrasque) is immune to this effect.

Seeing the wall disappear and his allies make their move, Virgils blade springs into his hand and he dashes round the corner before their enemies can react.

Following the apology and shaken hand, Virgils mood recovers and the duellist returns to his usual composure for the following journey.

As he stares at the wall, Virgil taps his rapier in thought.

"Perhaps we scout our options before we make any solid decision?"

I haven't made the changes to my character and they likely won't happen till next week atm. I'm at PaizoCon UK this weekend and I'm GMing three slots, including Serpent's Ire so I'm deep in prep mode atm.

Virgil nods in response to the question, retracting the offered hand. The shamed nobles voice takes on a slightly harsher tone.

"That is what we were told, and what we intend to do. We stopped off here to seek some refuge, offer what aid we could and perhaps foster an alliance or two."

Turning from the conversation to check his pack and equipment, Virgil continues.

"On that note, perhaps we should prepare to make way to the Pale Tower. It is only a matter of time until these 'witches' learn of our arrival, and our presence here poses a threat to the innocents around us."

Virgil steps forward, realising that the situation may get out of hand if not placated and moves his hand from his rapier and offers it to the man.

"You'll have to excuse our wariness Giri, but as Thorgull says these are strange times and we have already encountered more hostile forces than we anticipated."

Virgil looks down at the hand offered in friendship.

"My name is Virgil Ardelean, for my part I am a duellist from Ustalav, and like all of us I am far from my home. You are correct in what you say, this unnatural winter is not something that we can allow to happen and if you are indeed an ally in stopping that threat, then we welcome you and this 'Yamatsumi' you follow."

Virgils grip on his rapier loosens slightly as he takes a step back from the stranger.

"Exactly what quest do you think we are on? And how did you find your way here?"

There is a note of scepticism in the duellists voice as he appraises the clearly foreign attire. Allowing enough space to pass, Virgil gestures to the hearth, not keen to see anyone freeze to death in this frigid environment.

There's one more thing I wanted to discuss: since we've started one of my favourite PFRPG books has become available - Pathinfder Unchained. Since we're restarting, I'd like to submit to you the idea of including some Unchained rules in the mix.

The rules I'm usually using in my home games nowadays include:
- Background skills
- Skill Unlocks
- Stamina and Combat Tricks (the Combat Stamina feat is free for the fighter class)
- Wound Thresholds
- Poisons and Diseases
- Innate Item Bonuses (although not for armor/weapons, only for the other items - cloak, ring, belt, headband, amulet)

I've never tried Variant MultiClassing (VMC) but I understand it's a rather popular rule, so I'd be open about trying it out if you are interested.

Of course, adopting these rules would allow for a complete rebuild right now.

How many and which of these would you be looking to implement? I'm certainly not against the idea, but implementing all of them will involve a lot of learning on my part as I've not really researched the variant rules. I'm quite happy for a rebuild as a few of the new books might call for the odd feat or skills review on Virgil.

Virgil grimaces at being referred to as a nobody, even if it is done with the best intentions. He quickly moves his hand from the hilt of his rapier with the guards arrival and nods along with Stian's comments.

"We'll be no trouble sergeant."

Virgil places his hand on his rapier as his eyes narrow.

"Don't be a fool Emil. Put the crossbow down or this ends very badly for you. I'll only ask once."

I'm not going to use Diplomacy as Emil threatening me kicks in my Pride flaw until he apologises. I'm using Intimidate to force him to act friendly towards us.

Upon entering the town, Virgil finally sheathes his rapier, breathing a frosty sigh of relief.

I never thought I'd be so happy to be in such a small, isolated place.

As they pass the townsfolk the duellist smiles at them, glad of alittle attention outside of his immediate peers.
