Vincent found the comment ridiculous as he was clearly plenty built. Sure he might not have looked it. But he was strong enough to do anything he would possibly need himself. I will keep it mind, I get a feeling that we might take you up on your offer very soon, but before any such business might occur, we would have to locate Ms. Blake, so it would greatly increase the chances of us needing your services if you could point us towards somebody who could help us locate Ms. Blake.

Its only kidnapping if we we use force, I wouldn't underestimate the power of simple charm. As for balancing the books, while noble effort it is also ultimately pointless as currently most of the federation wants us dead. I would appreciate somebody taging along, numbers always convey a message in these affairs. Maybe Ms Ishikawa would like to go for a stroll? Please don't take it as an insult but the metal bits are sure to make an impression, and first impressions are vital when in the business of negotiations. I might add dice to allies once I am sure we are not going to double cross them immediately

We are to arrange a meeting between our potential client and one Ms Tessa Blake as a means of proving our competence. Judging by the tone of the gentlemen I spoke to Ms Blake might be less then thrilled about the prospects of attending such a meeting. I would recommend we put some priority on this as the speed with which this is resolved will most definitely affect our future employment prospects with that organisation. On a side note in regards to the names Mr Eberhardt provided, not sure if this is relevant or helpful but the people I spoke to did communicate in that weird Chinese language among themselves.

So full of doubt Vincent sighs at the guard as he heads back to the ship. Destitution was never really a possibility Mr.Dwight, not with all the talent aboard this vessel. It would appear I found us a job with the local prominent citizens, real pillars of the community.

While I definitely could, between guns a space worthy ship and one of best merc teams in the sector I would be the most overqualified miner this side of the belt. Maybe the big man has a spare minute and some problem he needs fixed. I can wait.

When a man stands on a track you dont ask the train to stop. What happens next is entirely up to you. Since neither of you look like law abiding citizens, I would recommend you begin by telling me who is in charge around these parts and where would I need to go to introduce myself. And then leaving. Expeditiously. 10 minutes later Vincent was walking through the crowded street towards an unassuming building pointed out to him by his two recent acquaintances. People around here seemed more jumpy then he anticipated so before leaving the alley he loaded his gun just in case somebody actually called his bluff next time. Crime bosses categorize people coming to them in one of three groups: victims, partners or rivals. Confident but not threatening. Respectful not intimidated. Mutually beneficial. Easy enough. Dirg Six Fingers. I swear that sounds familiar Vincent approached two guys standing at the door. I am here to speak with your boss.

2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11 I am starting to feel bad for him Vincent was always ready to dodge a punch while talking as it seemed to be the time when most people tried to punch him. Maybe there was some kind of connection. He took several quick steps back getting outside his assailants reach They lack class... while raising the barrel of a revolver in level with the gamblers head. ...and generally are undeserving of the tittle. The coils running down the barrel hummed menacingly. Now how about we return to civilized conversation before I am forced to air mail your brains to the next town over.

But would it not be our duty then to help those around us to better themselves? Besides it is the 31st century gentlemen, all civilized folk play cards these days. So lets head to the watering hole and settle this like they do in the best casinos on Kadr. And while we are at it I would not mind hearing whats new around these parts, I have been a bit our of touch lately.

Gentlemen! To a third party observer, which in this situation I would consider myself to be, it would appear like you are at an impasse about the fate of this pile of money. May I be so bold as to venture a guess that this hostility is caused by an unsatisfactory conclusion of a gambling activity? If that is indeed a case then let me help you my friends as I do believe you are victims of a common misconception. This misconception being the believe that the aim of gambling is rapid exchange of items of varying liquidity, when in truth the only liquidity you should be worrying about is one filling your glass. Gambling is about human relationship. Good company, strong drink and the thrill of the game. So why don't we move this indoors? Stakes: Getting them to talk. Vincent spun around in his chair and stared into the void of space. While if Vincent ever wrote an autobiography today would definitely would fall under "s!!&" category, he couldn't say he was all that surprised. Sometimes when you get out of bed you just know it is going to be one of those days. Vincent looked around the hall of the establishment he called home for the last couple of month. While Baldur wasn't the best place he ever lived in, it was decent enough to spend his fortune till poverty forced on the road again, which at this rate would easily be half a year away. His thoughts were interrupted by the front door swinging open letting in four lawmen. Dont recognize any of them, must be out of town. Heavy armed, ready for trouble, rifles brand new, not normal lawmen must be from somewhere closer to the core. Best just keep my head down and... Vincent Tuff S&&% By the order of Earth Federation you are under arrest. Vincent slowly turned around cursing himself for leaving his gun in his room. The four lawmen stood around him with fingers on the triggers. They look more like feds. Must be a mistake, just dont do anything stupid. This must be some kind of misunderstanding. What I am being accused of. Must be a mistake, must be looking for somebody else, but they know my name, maybe clerical error High treason What? Cant be! If i just go with them I can clear it all up. Feds don't accuse people of high treason just to let them go. But I haven't done anything. Be sure to mention that to the executioner, maybe he will feel bad about it. Gentlemen you clearly have the wrong person. How about a little game of chance. Vincent slowly produced a large coin form his pocket, the room grew dead silent. Heads I come with you willingly, tails we all sit down, have a drink and sort this out. One of the feds was about to say something but Vincent already tossed the coin. For a second as it reached it's zenith all eyes in the room were glued to it, and then instead of coming down it exploded covering everything in thick smoke. Vincent darted for his room. A shot rang out wood splintering next to his head as he ran up the stairs. He threw open his door and grabbed his belt and backpack while unholstering the Chimera. Behind him heavy boots closing in, in front of him a window. Bullets or broken bones? Bones heal He put two rounds through the window and jumped. He expected many things upon landing. Being nearly trampled by a horse was not one of them. In front of Vincent was a cyborg girl, a guy who looked like a rancher and a horse with an unconscious old guy slung over it, the conscious humanoids looking like the gates of hell opened behind them. They couldn't possible be... After what just happened, you owe me big time Lucy Would you per chance happen to be on the run form the law , because if yes I would be overjoyed to offer my assistance.

Speaking of which, does this fine vessel have a name? As for the money, well thankfully we have a horse, we could make a killing in moving cargo, or if we have enough starting capital we could always try gambling. With everything that happened to us today I think we are owed some luck with cards.

Vincent placed himself in the copilot seat liberated by Crow primarily to prevent his return into said seat as Vincent had some doubts about his ability operate this vessel, it also happened to be on the opposite side of the room to the horse. Well the criminal element is not the one trying to kill us so I doubt Aether could be worse then where we just came from. Besides I have been there before, lovely place, great people and you should absolutely try those pasty things they make. Most of us do seem to claim innocence, not quite sure about the older gentlemen here as I have trouble understanding most things he says although if he is the renegade terrorist element trying to bring down the federation I think Terra can sleep peacefully. Vincent considered something for a moment looking over fellow runaways. I dont suppose anyone has experience with this sort of thing? Running from the law, clearing ones name of treason charges. I mean if it was petty theft or drunken disturbance I might have been able to do something but high treason is a bit above my pay grade.

Vincent piped in from the side of the room where he was valiantly supporting one of the walls. Ok, this is getting a bit confusing. Can we do a show of hands for any crazy renegade terrorists on board, since some of us are clearly here by mistake, so the sooner we get this sorted out the quicker those esteemed individuals can carry on toppling the federation or whatever it is you people do and the rest of us can try deal with clearing our names and stuff. Names Vincent by the way.

Vincent peered through a hole in the wall taking in the landscape flying by, the monotone humming of the mag rail soothing the waves of pain attacking his skull. Hiding in a cargo train was not his preferred way of travel but beggars cant be choosers. Returning to his improvised chair Vincent spun his new hat in his hands, slowly tearing last nights memories from the drunken haze, attempting to reconstruct events that lead him here. Breaking into mayors house proved easier then Vincent anticipated, especially since nobody was actually in, both the mayor and his bodyguard too busy dragging poor old Dev to prison and thus unable to stop Vincent from triumphantly returning to the bar with his spoils. Their efforts somewhat pointless since not five minutes latter Vincent put his shiny new holoseal to use and signed Devs pardon. In the next couple of hours the new acting mayor appointed Lord Pawsington as town official ambassador to Terra, made whisky a recognized religion, declared 12th of march "The Banana Day", banned the word "banned" and set up the Ranchers Internal Affairs Committee tasked with rooting out the seeds of treason from towns bovine populace. Sadly Vincent's rule was cut short by the arrival of the lawkeeper and his deputies. After that just flashes of a mad dash through deserted streets towards the rising sun and the leap of faith from an old water tower. The now mayor in exile sighed deeply and after tucking a jack of spades, that he produced from his pocket into the side of the hat, returned it to his head. The train was slowing, a sign that they were about to pass through a town. Vincent got up ready to disembark the weight of the holoseal pulling down on his jacket. One day he would definitely return to his town. Sorry for a wall of text i still like to pretend that i am a writer from time to time.

In any given conflict, you can roll each of your Stat’s dice only once. In a gunfight, we roll Acuity plus Will— but we both rolled our Acuity when we were just talking, and we both rolled our Will when we started punching, so having my character raise the gun wouldn’t give me any new Stat dice. Page 41 As far as I understand nothing ever gets rolled more then once inside same encounter.

After some complicated science me and Ben established that when you preview the post with dice in it the dice stay the same when the post is made. So the issue is kinda resolved as you can escalate make the dice post preview it and then add the the actual turn stuff.

While some would probably say that alcohol was the catalyst for the chain of events that followed, Vincent knew he was in full control of his faculties as he climbed on the table to declare his intentions to everyone present at the fine establishment he found himself in. How could he gain the favor of the crowd and especially the still nameless barmaid who as of five minutes ago was Vincent's one true love? Well by sneaking into mayors house and nicking his hat of course.
