The girls continue to snicker as they accumulate dirt.
Woah! Sahlara almost loses control. Steady! Veera quickly shifts her weight to the right balancing out the wheelbarrow. Holding out an imaginary sword she points forward heroically. Onwards to victory! The two cousins laugh and smile together.

It is a nice town. I certainly prefer it to Magnimar. Here, I'm free, for the most part to pursue my craft, I'm a glassworker. And while I've been trying to convince Veera to make the move, she'd miss her libraries. Sahlara gives Veera a teasing look which She ignores for the most part. Oh, hello Miss Vespertine. I sent a letter back to my professor and hopefully, something can come of it. At the very least we should discover what happened to the expedition and ensure it won't happen again. Best not to make promises though. She smiles reassuringly and silently thanks that the conversation moves away from the obviously painful topic. As Sahlara hinted, I'm a scholar. You recognise Soralyon and his symbol. Know as The Mystic Angel, he is the Empyreal Lord of sacred monuments, their guardians and keeper of dangerous arcane secrets. While he is a lesser-known deity, he does have a noteable following amongst Magnimar's scholarly circles. Finishing off her mug Sahlara slams it on the table. Whew. That's a good idea let's head over to the festival.

Oh, it's the raucous one. Veera thinks as she turns to the familiar voice. I've been spending too much time in this place if I recognise his voice. I'm Veera and this is Sahlara. As the dark-haired lady makes her way around Sahlara thanks her, You're the best Ameiko. She passes her gaze over the newcomers. I think I vaguely remember you guys. Well, at least I can't forget a face like that. She waves flirtatiously at Darius. They both applaud Darius' performance. Ah, a Shelynite. That explains his skill. Veera muses mostly to herself. I'm a local too. Well... I've been here five years, don't know if that's long enough to count as local. Veera's my cousin, she's just visiting. I'm from Magnimar. Shall we sit with your friends? Veera moves over to their table, Sahlara following close behind. Veera notices Mia sipping on some tea and jabs at her cousin. Looks like someone knows how to celebrate. Oh please, she's probably on duty. You guys are all apart of the guard right? Sahlara gives their get-ups an inquisitive look.
She would have explained her research under professor Andrezi Moldovaci. She'd be hoping to find him alive but would say that whatever ruins caused his demise must be dangerous and her fellow researchers need be warned about them.
The two cousins sat down at the bar, Sahlara calling out, Two mugs of your best cider. Veera eyes her incredulously. Oh don't give me that look. Today's a day of celebration and that means alcohol, not tea. A server plops the drinks in front of them before quickly moving on to the next group. One can celebrate with tea... But- very well. She takes a careful sip of drink, a cringe striking her face, which makes Sahlara snort. An acquired taste to be sure. This isn't even the hard stuff. You should see some of the swill dwarves will chug down. When was the last time you drank? She eyes Veera suspiciously. I'd imagine... last summer when I was visiting you. She takes another reluctant gulp of liquid. Oh, you remind me of me when I first moved out here. Please, Veera rolls her eyes you've always had wildness to you. Yeah, but it was only a small wildness. Veera sighs sarcastically. And it's been growing ever since. Sahlara shoves her playfully.
@Mia, Veera would have mostly been asking about his last expedition, trying to sus out where he might have last been seen/heading off to.
@Mia Veera probably heard of your father and sought you out, asking questions about him and his work. For everybody else you've probably seen her in the rusty dragon inn usually reading or writing while drinking tea. I'll let you decide if any of you said hello to her.
Hello everybody. Excited to be here. Veera's from Magnimar but has spent the last 2 months in standpoint and has visited many times before. She's been staying with a cousin who works at the glassworks but otherwise has spent most of her time around the rusty dragon inn or poking around at the old light ruins.
Dreadful! Thanks to your parents. Sahlara, still halfway through taking off her coat, smacks a letter on the table forcing Veera to look up. Veera notices her parent's signature at the bottom. She laughs inwardly. They send her more letters than they send me. Veera responds in a calm and monotone. To be fair, you chose to work at the Glassworks. You should have seen this coming. Veera turns back to her work, garnering a nasty look from her cousin. I thought they were supposed to be the logical types. You know- like you. She exhaustedly gestures at Veera. How is my working there going to get them preferential treatment? Ugh! Sahlara plonked herself into the chair opposite Veera. Veera shrugs. Hmmm... They're more merchants than scholars. They'll take almost any opportunity. They likely see no harm in trying... Besides giving you a headache. Sahlara lets out a tired sigh. What about you? What are you up to? Just taking one more look over these rubbings before I send them back to the professor. Send them back...? Huh- yoooou're staying for the festival. Sahlara gives an excited grin. It's going to be great- wait, you said the professor was expecting you back next week. Eh... He can manage without me for a few more weeks. Veera waves a hand in dismissal. I'm his favourite student and it's not like I'll cease studying.
Maybe you could start as a regular shifter and then retrain into an oozemorph at later levels when you'll be able to use your humanoid form for longer? Don't know if that could work with what you had in mind for your backstory.
Introducing Veera. She's an elf arcanist originally from Magnimar where her family run a magic/potion shop. She's been staying with a cousin who works at the glass works in standpoint. She's a worshiper of Soralyon and acts something like an archaeologist. She'll focus more on utility and debuff/buff spells though she will still have some attack spells. |
