Vatale's Death
The earth elementals hit Vatale hard, driving him to his knees and the eagles continue to bite and claw at him. The second elemental's attack produces a sickening crack and Vatale falls to the ground beside Gyllir, joining her in death.

Arbiter:

Well that's 41 damage. So I'm done.

Well that's it for me. Good match, you have a wonderful strategy that I wish I had thought of. I've always liked summoning builds but it just didn't occur to me for this arena despite the clear benefits.

Male Elf

Round 3
Gyllir goes down from the attacks of the first Eagle.

Arbiter:

I'm not sure how to handle mount death in terms of Vatale ending up on the ground. I'm going to make a reflex save and a ride check here. I figure the DC for a swift dismount is 5 and if I have a good save maybe that makes sense but it's up to you.
Reflex Save:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Ride Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Looking at the results I'm guessing I'll make it to the ground standing. in which case I figure I'll go for E15 since Gyllir's corpse is taking up FG1415.
I'll just attack the eagle in E14 again.
Attack:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
In terms of damage I've taken I'm down to 16 HP.

Vatale gets clear of Gyllir as she falls landing on his feet in E15. The eagles while missing many attacks do land several, drawing lines of bright red across Vatale's arms and back.
He swings again at the eagle in E15 again but misses once more.
Attack: 11 Damage: 4 It seems I used all my good rolls somewhere else.
While it is unorthodox I don't think it should matter too much, it seems legal to me. I doubt I'll be needing that bow again anyway. At this point I'm just aiming to take down as many summons as I can before dying.
You're up.

Male Elf

Round 2
The birds tear deep into Gyllirs flesh as she screams in pain.

Arbiter:

Ride check to negate the claw attack dealing 6 damage via mounted combat.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 for a DC 19 check.
This leaves Gyllir taking 11 damage which puts her down to 1 HP.
I'm dropping my bow as a free action and unsheathing my Katana as a move action.
I will then attack the eagle in E14.
Attack:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Well then.

Vatale drops his bow and unsheaths his katana, swinging at one of the eagles and missing horribly. Well then, this is going swimmingly.
No movement, and no damage dealt. Unless the eagles can be hit with 9.
You're up.

Male Elf

Round 1
Vatale curses under his breath as he sees his opponent disappear.
Why do they keep doing this? Very well, only one of us is leaving lets just get this over with.

Arbiter:

Challenge against Jezebel as a swift action.
Ride check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 for DC 5 guide with knees check.
Ride to FG1415.
Ready an attack with a thistle arrow upon seeing Jezebel.

Riding out towards the center of the arena Vatale nocks an arrow and stops with the eastern wide pillar to his back.
Ride to FG1415.
You're up.

Male Elf

Well I'm happy to say I just finished my last exam so from here on out there shouldn't be delays.

Surprise Round
Vatale examines the strange six-legged beast, coiling Gyllir's reigns in his hand.

Arbiter:

Ranger's Focus on Jezebel's companion as a swift action.
Ride Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 For DC 20 mount as a free action.
Ride Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 For DC 5 guide with knees check.
Attack against the companion with a thistle arrow as Gyllir moves to HI1819.
Attack:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Damage:1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 plus bleed damage for 1d6 ⇒ 2 rounds.

Vatale leaps into the saddle and Gyllir runs along the wall of the arena to the East. Vatale, guiding Gyllir with his knees nocks an an arrow and lets fly at Jezebel's companion.
Attack: 25 Damage: 9 plus 1 bleed damage for 2 rounds.
Gyllir and Vatale end up in HI1819
You're up.

Male Elf

Initiative
Vatale strides into the arena beside Gyllir. His face is quite stoic but he does seem a bit perturbed by the six-legged creature.
Further description of equipment and such on this alias.

Arbiter:

Initiative:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Initiative = 23. So whoever has the higher modifier should go first. Mine is +9.
Also my apologies for the delay, my finals ate up the entirety of my weekend.

Male Elf

Sounding off at level 3.

Male Elf

Gyllir is war-trained but Vatale is just dead, he's not bleeding out. This fight goes to Johnny. Although this is interesting information for future fights.

Male Elf

I interpreted it differently, but that makes sense.

Male Elf

Quick question. How did you cast a spell and move 10 feet in the surprise round? If it's a class thing just ignore it but you should have started combat on A11 and B9 is 10 feet away.

Male Elf

20 damage kills Vatale. I think this is a win for you, I doubt I'm allowed to continue fighting through Gyllir. At this point it comes down to the ruling by the Arbiter.
Vatale takes the hit straight in the chest and falls of Gyllir, dead as a stone.
Well no matter what the ruling good fight, 42 points of ranged damage without attack rolls in 1 1/2 rounds is pretty damn impressive.

Male Elf

Round 1

Arbiter:

I'm pretty sure he has line of sight on me from A11 while I'm in HI1819.
Down to 0 HP. I'm disabled and have the staggered condition.
Ride Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 for DC 5 guide with knees.
As a swift action I issue a challenge to Johnny.
I move Gyllir to HI1718 by way of CD1718. That is the halfway point and where I make my attack from.
I take a standard action to attack Johnny, however, in my disabled condition I take one point of damage and get put to -1. I use Resolve as an immediate action and stabalize. I am still staggered.
This attack is made with a slow burn arrow.
Attack:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Damage:1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 plus 1d6 ⇒ 4 fire damage in one round.

Vatale cries out in pain but the sound of Gyllir's hooves starts back up immediately. Riding north Vatale fires a second arrow at Johnny. He wheels Gyllir around and heads back south.
Attack: 19, Damage: 11 plus 4 fire damage next round as the arrow tip detonates. I end up in HI1718

Male Elf

Surprise Round

Arbiter:

Ride Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 for DC 20 free action mount.
Ride Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 for DC 5 guide with knees.
Swift action Ranger's Focus on Johnny.
Gyllir moves to HI1819 and I make a standard action attack on the way with a thistle arrow.
Attack:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Damage:1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 plus bleed damage for 1d6 ⇒ 6 rounds.

Vatale leaps into the saddle and sits there for a moment studying Johnny. He then kicks Gyllir into motion and they move East. Vatale draws an arrow and takes aim, firing at Johnny before moving behind a pillar.
Attack: 18 Damage: 12 plus 1 point bleed for 6 rounds. Gyllir and Vatale end up in HI1819.
Your turn.

Male Elf

Initiative
Vatale strides into the arena, longbow in one hand and Gyllir's reigns in the other.
Full description in the alias

Arbiter:

Initiative:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Initiative: 26

Male Elf

Vatale stumbles in after his first fight. One hand holds Gyllir's reigns while the other is pressed to his gut. Instead of going to medical ward he heads to the stable. Taking off Gyllir's barding and saddle with one hand he gives her a full brushing. Once this is complete he drags himself to the medical ward, on the way his hand slips and some intestines fall out but he pushes them back in.

Male Elf

Well now that my first battle is done I guess I'm ready for another. Pending the official ending by the Master of the Pits of course. I have some equipment changes but they should be in momentarily.

Sound Off
Level 3

Male Elf

Calling you a human was a cruel insult brother and I'm sorry for that. You fought well.
Vatale crosses the arena and dismounts, unsheathing his katana and finishing Gin with the dignity he deserves.
My attack was a readied action for as soon as I saw you and I'm guessing your attack was the same based on your description, so I think they would have gone off at the same time. Even if they hadn't I should have been able to get the attack off.
Yeah I think this fight came down mainly to me rolling high and you rolling low. That said Vatale is amazingly close to death right now so it was pretty close. Thanks for a good fight.

Male Elf

AoO Resolution
Gin's blade cuts deep into Vatale's guts. Blood gushes out and after firing his arrow you think you see him push some intestines back in. He cries out in great pain and goes through every elven curse he knows. Yet somehow he remains in the saddle and barely conscious, his eyelids are drooping and he's swaying back and forth.

Arbiter:

So that attack puts me at -10 HP. I have a Con of 11 so I'm not flat out dead but I am very close. As an immediate action I'm using Unstoppable from my Resolve class feature (Samurai) and stabilizing. I'm staggered but I can take standard actions without dying.
Ride Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 for DC 5 stay in saddle.

Your turn.

Male Elf

Round 6
What would I have to fear? Has someone else entered the arena?

Arbiter:

Ride Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 For DC 5 guide with knees.
Ready an attack against Gin as soon as I see him.
Attack:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Damage:1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Vatale suddenly charges out from behind the pillar firing an arrow at Gin as soon as he sees him. Gyllir quickly eats up ground crossing the entire Arena.
Attack: 23 Damage: 12
This movement goes directly through your threatened squares so I'm provoking another AoO. This time we have all the rulings though so it should go more smoothly. Gyllir is heading to HI0203.

Male Elf

Oh, I forgot to put that outside of the spoiler. I'm at GH1920. Sorry about that.

Male Elf

In that case the AoO misses Vatale and the rest of my turn takes place as described above right before the AoO.
You're up.

Male Elf

AoO Resolution

Arbiter:

So I'm not sure if he can take a swing at Vatale, if he can then a 19 misses. In case he is swinging at Gyllir I'm going to roll a ride check via mounted combat to negate the hit now.
Ride Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 as an opposed test to his 19 attack.
By the exact wording of mounted combat I have roll higher than his attack. So he would hit and Gyllir would go down to -3 HP.

So I'm not sure about the target of the AoO, I think that comes down to a ruling by the Arbiter. If it is targeting Vatale then it misses. If it's targeting Gyllir then it hits. I'd prefer to see this resolved before moving on since depending on the outcome it could have some dire consequences for me. I'm pming the arbiter now to alert him.
Also I have been rolling pretty good on damage.

Male Elf

Round 5
The blade slices across Vatale's chest, cutting through this chainmail and and leaving a deep gash that immediately turns a dark crimson.

Arbiter:

HP: 6 at this point.
Ride Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 for DC 5 stay in saddle due to damage.
Ride Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 for DC 5 guide with knees.

Vatale cries out in pain and swears a good deal but wheels Gyllir around and begins riding east.
This should provoke an AoO on Gyllir as he's moving more then 5 feet. I'm going to continue with the rest of my actions for now on the (questionable) assumption that you won't kill Gyllir with this AoO. If you do then I'll change them after it's all settled
Arbiter:

Moving to GH1920 and firing an arrow at Gin while doing so.
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Before disappearing behind the pillar Vatale turns in the saddle and looses another arrow at Gin.
Attack: 27 Damage: 12

Male Elf

Round 4

Arbiter:

Perception check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 since apparently he's singing.
Perception: 17
Arbiter:

I'm assuming that a 17 doesn't let me pinpoint him. So I'm just going to take another total defense action.

Well now you're just acting like a human. Vatale stays where he is.
You're up.

Male Elf

Round 3

Arbiter:

Perception Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Perception: 2
So I'm still confused as all hell in terms of where you are.
Vatale Shifts in the saddle but Gyllir doesn't move. God I hate waiting.
Arbiter:

Total Defense Action. I need to draw him out of invisibility.

You're up.

Male Elf

Round 2
Vatale grumbles to himself and knocks an arrow. Come to the arena they said. It'll be fun they said. Of course they didn't mention all the invisible people who try to kill you. Why would they? He kicks Gyllir into motion and heads to the center of the arena.

Arbiter:

Ready attack action to attack Gin as soon as I see him.
Move to the dead center of the arena FG1011.

Moving to dead center of the arena.
You're up.

Male Elf

Get ready, this is going to be hilariously pathetic.

Arbiter:

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Perception: 9

Male Elf

Round 1
Vatale smiles and kicks Gyllir into motion once more. They move north, leaving cover in order to get a shot at Gin. Heading directly north Vatale knocks an arrow and yells out to Gin, Only one of leaves alive, may the best elf win. Upon reaching the northern extent of the arena he wheels Gyllir back around and fires another arrow at Gin, retreating back to his original position.

Arbiter:

Swift action: Challenge given to Gin.
Ride check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 for DC 5 guide with knees
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
I'm moving to HI1718 by way of CD1718. I'm just moving north and then south in order to get an attack off and end in cover.
This attack (made at CD1718) is dependent on me having line of sight. I'm assuming that he took a 5-foot step to either A12 or B12. If I don't have line of sight I won't make the attack and instead I'll ready an attack for as soon as I see him. Movement will not change no matter what.

Attack: 22 Damage: 11
This attack is made at CD1718 which assumes you stepped behind a pillar to either A12 or B12. If I don't have line of sight I obviously won't make the attack but my movement won't change. I end up at HI1718

Your turn

Male Elf

Well looks like we still have pit 6, so lets do this thing. Want to just pick up where we left off, or should we restart from the beginning?

Male Elf

Sound off.

I'll fight Rolg in a challenge after this randomized round if he's up for it.

Male Elf

While it's not the ending I'd like I do feel a bit guilty about holding this pit up so it's fine by me. Maybe some day Vatale and Gin can finish this in a challenge.

Male Elf

It's fine, I completely understand.

Male Elf

Surprise Round
Vatale scrutinizes his opponent, seeking out weakness as he pulls absentmindedly on his bow string.

Arbiter:

Swift action Ranger's Focus on Gin.
Ride Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 For a DC 20 to mount as a free action.
Ride Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 For a DC 5 to guide with my knees.

Suddenly Vatale leaps in the saddle and kicks Gyllir into motion. Gyllir trots to the right (left from Gin's perspective) while Vatale knocks an arrow and lets it fly at his opponent.
Arbiter:

Gyllir is moving from KL1112 to HJ1819. Attack is made half-way through move at IJ1415.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Arrow: 24 to hit and 13 damage. Movement is to HI1819.
Vatale and Gyllir end up mostly behind a pillar.

Male Elf

Initiative
Vatale strides into the arena, Gyllir's reigns in his right hand and his bow in his left. His eyes immediately lock on to his opponent.
Full description of Vatale and equipment is on this Alias.

Arbiter Only:

Initiative 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Initiative: 22

Ready to enter the ring.

Male Elf

I think it wasn't just your luck but also my complete and utter lack of luck. Hopefully next time we meet I'll be able to put up more of a fight.

Male Elf

Yeah, I'm super dead now. Thanks for a good match.
And nice crits, the first one almost had me and then the second put me around -40.

Male Elf

I was worried something like this was going to happen.
The pilum flies true and pierces Vatale's chest. He cries out as it travels through one of his lungs and bursts out of his back.

Arbiter:

Well 21 damage puts me at -5 but I'm using Resolve as an immediate action to stabilize and remain conscious. However, I am now staggered.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 for a DC 5 Ride check to stay in the saddle. +10 from ride +2 from military saddle.
So despite being in the negatives I should be conscious and Gyllir should finish his move to KL1314.

With the tip of the pilum now lodged in his chest Vatale unleashes what you assume is a string of the most foul elven curses. Despite having a javelin in his chest he seems to be clinging to life and not only does he remain in the saddle but Gyllir continues moving. Upon stopping you here Vatale call out, Good one dwarf, but I'm not done yet.

Male Elf

Arbiter:

Using a standard action I'm readying an attack against Bruno on sight.
Then I'm moving Gyllir via my knees 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 for DC 5 Ride check.
We're moving to KL1314 sticking to the lower wall of the arena. It's a double move so if I see Bruno the attack will suffer a -3 penalty.

Riding out from behind the pillar Vatale and Gyllir head to the right along the lower bound of the piller. Upon seeing Bruno he lets loose a third arrow.
Spoiler:

To Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Vatale and Gyllir end up in KL1314. And that arrow had 14 to hit with 13 damage. This just really isn't my fight, I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

Male Elf

Arbiter Only:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 For DC 5 ride check to guide with knees.

Vatale nocks another arrow as he kicks Gyllir into motion once more. I accept your challange! Only one of us will leave here Dwarf. As Gyllir begins galloping to the left Vatale takes aim and lets loose another arrow at Bruno.
Arbiter Only:

My acceptance of challenge was a swift not free action and was my declaration of a challenge as per the Samurai class feature.
Gyllir is double moving to HI0203 imposing a -3 to all attacks. The arrow is shot half way at HI1011
To Hit:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Damage:1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Movement ends at HI0203. This second arrow also had a 12 to hit so I'm assuming it missed again.
The arrow veers left and clatters against the arena wall. Even at his distance Bruno can hear Vatale cursing.

Male Elf

Yeah, sorry about that. HI1819 not HJ1819.

Male Elf

Vatale strides into the arena beside his mount. He glances with disdain at his opponent, although it's quite obvious that he's a pompous ass. He holds a longbow carved from a dark wood, a quiver of matching arrows is slung across his back. He wears parade armor with an armored kilt.
His mount, Gyllir is a midnight black horse clad in studded leather armor. The equipment on both appears new and unbloodied.

Arbiter Only:

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Initiative 17
Vatale's eyes focus on Bruno, boring into him as if to seek out every weakness.
Arbiter Only:

The eye focusing is Ranger's Focus on Bruno as a swift
Ride check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 For DC 20 check to mount as free action.
Ride check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 For DC 5 check to guide Gyllir with knees.

He leaps into the saddle in one quick motion and kicks Gyllir into motion, she trots to the right (or the left from Bruno's perspective) while Vatale knocks an arrow and lets it fly at Bruno.
Arbiter Only:

Gyllir is moving from KL1112 to HJ1819. Attack is made half-way through move at IJ1415.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 to hit
If I succeed Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Vatale and Gyllir end up in HJ1819. Also that arrow had a 12 to hit. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that doesn't do anything.

Sounding off.
