Suli Paladin
Oops, looks like the forum ate my post on Saturday. It was something like this:
Suli Paladin
Varus moves next to Janira's unconscious body. Seeing she is stable, he prays for a Minor Blessing on his morningstar. Move 20ft, standard to activate my Holy Strike blessing. "Everbloom, grant me the strength to bring this beast down!" he shouts as he winds up his swing, preparing to charge forward.
Suli Paladin
Varus continues his treacherous jaunt across the log...
Suli Paladin
Without seeing a better option, Varus decides to try and balance across the log in front of him. "This is a terrible idea, but I don't see a more favorable path!" Double move for 40ft, ending halfway across the log if I don't fall in.
Completely surprised by his ability to balance on the log, Varus stops halfway across in total shock.
Suli Paladin
Not sure when I'll get a chance to post after this, but my turn will be the same regardless of what happens: Varus' Turn: Everbloom protect her!
Varus hustles forward with his companions move action, 20ft. "Milani, guide my strikes." he mutters under his breath as he casts Divine Favor. Please Lockwood me down four and to the left one.
Suli Paladin
"Please friend, if there is anything we can do to assist you with this, do not hesitate to ask. I know of loss, and am willing to help share this burden with you." Varus says to Uori. I know my companions share my sentiment, I just hope we can communicate it to Uori properly. After everyone finishes giving Uori their condolences, Varus prepares to return to the secret passage Markus was able to spot.
Suli Paladin
Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 "I don't know about the rest of you, but I am not familiar with Gillmen customs. Should we inquire with Uori as to how best send their spirits on?" Some may think it a waste of time, but I hope their spirits will find rest. Varus waits by the entrance they came in, hoping the others will return to Uori.
Suli Paladin
Varus hops around the entwined skeleton, moving towards the last unhindered opponent. "Well you seem a little *tied up* at the moment!..." When no one laughs, Varus sighs. "Maybe I should leave the jokes to Brob." Varus winds up, and takes a swing at the Red skeleton. Attack, Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10
Perhaps disheartened by his poor comedy, Varus swings wide.
Suli Paladin
Finally, something I'm good at! "Don't worry friends, we will easily destroy these creatures. They are nothing compared to the feared Aspis Dummy we already defeated!" Varus runs in front of two of the skeletons, attempting to smash one with his bludgeoning Morningstar. Attack, Guidance: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 = 21
Delivering a solid blow, Varus remarks "See? These things can't stand against our combined might!" Forgot to specify, attacking the Yellow skeleton.
Suli Paladin
"Well, hunting may be more my speed anyway." Varus shouts as he attacks one of the centipedes. Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
"Oh! Maybe I shouldn't hand swung so hard..." Varus shakes some of the squished centipede guts off his morningstar into the small city. Gross! Never do that again! Really? Where was that roll earlier?!
Suli Paladin
Oh good, he can understand us. I hope we can find a way to help each other. "Greetings Uori! This site is a great find for us. The circumstances of Aroden's death are still mysterious, so any information on him could be useful. Would it be ok with you if we sent back a few fellow pathfinders to study these carvings at another time?" Varus hopes studying this cave will not trouble the Gillmen. "Perhaps in return, we could try and set up a safer route for your people to reach the spring water, one with plenty of water pools so you won't risk yourselves so badly." I know none of this is really covered by the scenario, but this seems like someting Varus would try and set up. So don't feel like you need to spend much (if any) time on it.
Suli Paladin
How fortunate! One of the very creatures we were sent to investigate! "Greetings sir! As my companions have said, we represent the Pathfinder Society and would be honored to speak with you!" Varus exclaims, perhaps *too* enthusiastically. Diplomacy Assist (Untrained): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12
Suli Paladin
"Oh boy, this should be about as fun as that obstacle course" Varus mumbles to himself. Stowing his shield, Varus makes a quick prayer to Milani and attempts to climb the wall across the pit casting Guidance to help with the climb check. Climb check, Guidance, -5 ACP: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 - 5 = 20 "Now where was that luck during our initial testing?" Varus grins at his good fortune, and silently thanks his goddess. "And if there are no objections, I wouldn't mind holding on to that barkskin potion. But if someone thinks it will serve them better, I will not complain!"
Suli Paladin
Janira is right, there is little we can do against a monster like that. I just wish there was more we can do for her. Varus looks troubled, and says a quick prayer to Milani for Janira if possible, casting Guidance on her before she runs off. "I hate to leave her, but Janira is right. We can't stand against that thing. We must continue the mission." Gods I hope this is the right thing to do. Varus moves towards the cave, hoping his companions will follow.
Suli Paladin
"Although you were threatening us, you were just defending your territory. You should not die for that." Varus whispers a short prayer to Milani and casts Stabilize on the white wolf. Thank you for guiding my strike, Everbloom. And for sparing this creature's life. "Alright friends, I think Janira is correct. Let's depart!" Varus makes to follow Janira's lead.
Suli Paladin
Frustrated with his lack of effect, Varus steps forward again and tries another swing 5ft step, then attack. "We can bring this one down!" Varus yells encouragingly to his allies. Attack, Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 1 = 17
Suli Paladin
Varus notices his position is detracting from his friend's attack. "Sorry about that Brob! If you'd like me to make room for other's attacks, please let me know!" Attack, Inspire Courage: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 9
After his attack, Varus quickly hops sideways(5ft step).
Suli Paladin
Varus steps forward behind the tree, hoping to surprise the white wolf when it approaches, then draws his morningstar to prepare for the fight. Move action to get up there, another to draw my weapon. Maybe I will get lucky and the wolf won't notice I moved here, giving me a chance to surprise it!
Suli Paladin
Sorry for not posting yesterday. That is totally my fault for forgetting to get on here. Back during the fireplace: "Like some of you, this is my first mission with the Society. But having grown up in Egorian, I have had some adventures there! It is a rough place for many people, especially halflings."Varus smiles sadly, hoping his halfling companions have never known the mistreatment that is common in Cheliax. "My family was not nobility, but we lived comfortably. Perhaps because of this, I was raised with a very different attitude than most of the children my age. So when I saw my classmates attacking one of their halfling slaves, I thought I had to step in. I could not understand why it was right for them to treat another creature so poorly. After the halfling got away, they explained that the entire country was on their side in believing it OK. I knew something had to change, so it was on that day I devoted myself to the teachings of Milani, hoping to one day overthrow a government that would tolerate such treatment in it's boarders." Back to the present
Suli Paladin
"Sadly this is my first mission for the society, so I don't have much of value." Varus quickly recovers and smiles to everyone "But I promise, I will help in every way I can. In this case, it means I can use that wand for you Markus!" Just let me know whenever you want me to use it. I can roll it or you can, whatever you prefer. "Since I have no shopping to take care of, I am ready to depart when everyone else is." Varus walks over to stand near Janira, waiting for her to give the word to leave.
Suli Paladin
I remember something about Aroden and the Starstone in regards to the island. But not the details. "Well, the island itself was... discovered, maybe... by Aroden. Did the Starstone lead him here?" Trying to connect what little information he does know, Varus desperately tries to come up with something plausible. Knowledge (Geography), Untrained: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 "As far as the mountains themselves, I do not know anything more than Markus." Oh crap, I never thought sleeping during geography classes would come back to haunt me! That was so embarrassing.

Sorry for the lack of posting today, I should be more available tomorrow
Hopefully no one was playing a devout Asmodeus worshiper! haha Turning to the new recruits that arrived during the fight "Hello all, I am Varus Teutoburg. It's a pleasure to meet you!" And joining the others upon hearing Rin's abilities "That sounds very intriguing. I have never had my fortune read before; count me in!"
Suli Paladin
"Nicely done Boris!" Varus yells. Then realizing it was a group effort, he hastily tacks on: "Oh, and everyone else, of course. The Dummy was no match for all... 13... of us." Hoping nobody realized how frightened he became when he realized it took over a dozen us to take this dummy down, Varus turns to head back inside the tavern. "Well now that it's over, who's up for some breakfast?"
Suli Paladin
Feeling heartened by Nella's invigorating power, Varus is more determined than ever. "Well friends, this is definitely the most unorthodox confirmation I have heard of, but if it means officially becoming pathfinders, lets do it right!" Obviously this is not actually the confirmation, but Varus doesn't know that! Varus attempts to aim his blow at the same time the dummy is busy dodging Semagoro's assault. Attack with Divine Favor, Bless, Inspire Courage, and Flanking. Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 18 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 13
Suli Paladin
Brob, I *think* the way we are doing initiative and actions here, your song is active as soon as you post it. Please correct me if I'm wrong GM, but I believe as soon as you have a "<=!" pointing at you in the combat table, you can act. So I think your post here has already happened.
Suli Paladin
I am really sick of this thing hitting me. Varus steps up to flank with Luthor (five foot step). Then with a quick prayer to Milani (swift action to activate Weapon of the Chosen), he takes another swing at the possessed dummy (with Divine Favor, Flanking, and Inspire Courage). Attack, Good Aligned: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 29
Weapon of the Chosen: When activated as a swift action, this feat allows me to treat my deity's favored weapon as magical and reroll a miss chance from concealment. Because I also have Improved Weapon of the Chosen, it also gives my damage one part of my alignment. In this case, I will make the damage Good aligned. I doubt this will actually change anything against the dummy, but I may as well get used to using it.

Seeing the Aspis Dummy approaching his new friends, Varus moves forward and prepares to fight. "I do not know what is controlling you now, but you will not harm my companions!" Varus maneuvers around the barrels in front of him, then casts Divine Favor giving him a +2 luck bonus to attack and damage because of his Fate's Favored trait.
Suli Paladin
Beaming at the opportunity to discuss his patron, Varus excitedly turns to to Boris. "Oh, you aren't familiar with the Everbloom? Milani is the most amazing goddess! She is the patron of all those struggling against tyranny! She will help any just rebellion fight their unjust oppressors! And as the sister of Iomedae, they often help each other be an even greater force for good!" Varus blinks, realizing he had forgotten to breathe during his entire oration. Laughing, he puts his hand on Boris' shoulder, "And her dental hygiene is immaculate." Realizing he has been talking too much, he says "Oh, I have a riddle for everyone, though it is a bit easy:
Suli Paladin
Boris, I'm fairly sure you meant me by the young Chelish man, but may have lost track of a person or two in here. "Well met Boris, I am Varus Teutoburg, proud son of Cheliax... Although maybe a little less proud with the current ruling class... but regardless you are correct: it is quite nice being out of class. And while I cannot speak for Sarenrae, I do think Milani is smiling on us all." Varus makes a face of slight distaste when he mentions both the current Chelish ruling class, and Sarenrae. But both pass quickly, and he seems to be very pleased to meet everyone. "My head is still ringing from that obstacle course, but if I can think of a good riddle, I will share it!"
Suli Paladin
Thinking back on the teachings from the Milani Temple, Varus tries to recall anything related to the riddle Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Varus' Thoughts:
The "pious men" line clearly refers to paladins. And it may be little more than a guess, but "faced the test of sun and stone" sure sounds like the Test of the Starstone. And her crusade against the Whispering Tyrant might be what the line "Vanquishing the mage of fright" is referring to. And "Why did he die?" is probably about Aroden, the god that died. Yes, that settles it. The answer is Milani's sister and Aroden's old herald, Iomedae! Varus starts beaming with pride at his deductions. He starts scribbling on the paper, then hands it to Janira. "That was a tough one, ma'am, but I think I might have figured it out."That was an awesome riddle! Way to go! Having finished, he approaches each of the newcomers and introduces himself, genuinely excited to meet so many new people."Hello, my name is Varus Teutoburg. It is a pleasure to meet you!"
Suli Paladin
Smiling with slightly red cheeks, Varus shakes Markus' hand enthusiastically. "Nothing hurt but my pride. I think I will take Janira's advice and choose my meals more carefully. At least you had a good run at that course. Maybe you can teach me a thing or two about being so agile." Laughing earnestly, Varus is feeling better about his display. While I may have looked silly, I hope these kinds of games will keep everyone's spirits high. And maybe my display will encourage others to do better on their attempt. "Now if you'll excuse me, I believe I have some straw from that dummy in my hair." Varus steps back to tries to fix his disheveled appearance.
Suli Paladin
"An obstacle course is not my strong suit, but it's all in good fun!" Please don't let this be too embarrassing! The Cunningly Placed Bar Stool Climb, DC 10: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2 -- More of a vault than a jump… Trying to vault over the stool, Varus forgets he has his shield strapped to his arm. He is unable to get it out of the way as he runs up to the stool, and instead ends up smacking the stool across the tavern. "Oh dear... We'll pretend I meant to do that!" Obstacle course Perception, DC 16: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 -- Figure out the easy way through. I don't see any discernable pattern in the obstacles... I know! I will treat it like the stool! Varus barrels forward at full speed, hoping to ram through everything in his path. Unfortunately this slows him down significantly, but he just presses on. The Combat Dummy AoO vs 19: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 -- Try to duck under it. For this one it attacks you with its spinning arms. "Ha! There is no way this dummy can hit-"The dummy's arm smacks Varus right in the face, swiftly shutting him up. The Mad Dash to the End Constitution, DC 12: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 -- Fit enough to have a final burst of energy. Annoyed by his previous failures, Varus is determined to do at least one part correctly. He digs deep, and sprints with all he has left, repeating an inspiring mantra:
He regrets having that ale, but fortunately keeps it down. "Well, that was about what I expected. Anyone else care to take a turn?" |
