Female Human Technomancer 1
Valtri didn't think of herself as the conservative type, but what with one thing and another, she was getting a distinct sense of culture shock. That would be difficult to hide, so she might as well lean into it. If there was information to be had through swaggering, Max and Celebryn (and possibly Rukh) probably had that covered. She could sit back, observe, and possibly catch something the face people, in their commitment to conversation, might miss.
Valtri shook her head to the servor, conjuring the weak smile of somebody feeling out of her depth. Under the guise of not quite knowing where to look, she swept her gaze around the room, casing the joint. That was the term, she was sure.

"Any style tips for the assorted hangers-on?" Valtri asked mildly. She would be just as happy not to be occupying the centre of attention. Less chance of being recognised from having her image plastered across the infosphere.
"And do we have a plan for after we get in?" She was, frankly, at something of a loss on that front. Pumping staff for information seemed more likely to trigger a confrontation than anything else.

"Stunted rockball cyclones," Valtri groaned, shielding her eyes from the light. "This direnimbus hangover had better be worth it."
Gathering her faculties, Valtri mentally debated the merits of working out what was or wasn't her clothing before discarding the idea in favour of seeking out hydration.
This done, and having given the others the opportunity to similarly restore themselves as best they might, she turned her attention to holoprojector. "I daresay this is what we've bargained for," she observed. It would be helpful to know the details of that bargaining and what was on the other side of the ledger.

"I for one would like to see the situation resolved with a minimum of further bloodshed," Valtri said sincerely. In the interests of diplomacy, she held off on elaborating on her opinion of the shootout.

Valtri found herself a seat and lifted her own glass in a toast before sipping a little more hesitantly. Strong liquor was rather discouraged back home - railings or no (and it was often 'no'), it was all too possible to stumble off the edge of a habitat.

Valtri wasn't overly enthused about traipsing through Level 21 Crew territory, but they were hardly going to unravel the reason for the battle at the docks without encountering one or both gangs at some point.
For now, Valtri stuck reasonably close to the group, seeing what the occasional local had to say as the group progressed.

Valtri was happy enough to listen to Max's overview. There would probably be no stopping him from engaging with the Hardscrabble Collective with the cheerful enthusiasm of somebody who had met kindred spirits. Valtri intended to keep an open mind on the matter. Whether or not they were the wronged party, it did seem they'd helped set the stage for the shootout, and that didn't endear them to her.

"Acting defensively might include sending suspicious visitors to ping the core," Valtri said, employing what was probably a euphemism of some kind, "We should be on our guard."
Max was probably right that they were the people to start with, though whether they'd want to share their story with meddling outsiders was an open question. None of the group struck her as having an 'in' with asteroid miners, though perhaps she was wrong on that front.

"Valtri Cloudfall, of Asthium," Valtri said when the introductions moved around to her, "I second looking forward to working with everyone, though I wish we hadn't begun on such a tragic note."
Valtri was sufficiently sensible to leave well enough alone when it came to the infosphere's reporting on her. No doubt the news cycle would move on with its characteristic swiftness. Best to assume she'd be recognised if she turned up on the gangs' respective doorsteps, though.

"A couple of possibilities occur," Valtri said, "Either one side has done something to tick the other off or make itself an attractive target, or the docks have become prime territory to control - smuggling opportunities, perhaps."
Prime territory or not, this kind of open warfare was surely counter-productive. There'd be eyes on both factions, and on the docks following the brawl.

"Thank you," Valtri said simply, helping herself to some nibbles. It had been a while since her last meal, what with those hab-sinking gangsters and the aftermath of the fight.
There would be a pitch coming, she was sure.

Valtri, still organising her own belongings, let out a faint sigh at the conversation unfolding. Trying to get Duravor's belongings was definitely crossing a line. Thankfully, it looked like cooler heads were going to prevail, though she stood ready to add her own .02 creds if it seemed necessary.

This was perhaps one of those situations where succeeding was its own punishment. Valtri had expected something a with a little less likely to disorient and smother people. Though in hindsight, in the event of a fire serious enough to activate the system, that was probably the lesser evil. Shipboard fires were not to be trifled with.
For now, Valtri lifted up her collar to cover her face and set about trying to figure out if there was a way to clear away the foam. She wasn't going to do that immediately - the gangsters could suffer the consequences of their actions for a little while - but it would definitely be best to be ready to undo her handiwork, rather than risk suffocating the very bystanders she'd been trying to help.

Amidst the confusion, Valtri slipped over to the console and set about activating the fire suppression system. How hard could it possibly be?

Turning to Max, as the closest person, Valtri told him, "I have a plan, but I need a few moments uninterrupted at that console." Trusting the ysoki to back her up, she broke cover, advancing towards said console.
She refrained from pulling her weapon just yet. Given how focused the gangsters were one each other, she might be overlooked in the confusion, but she probably wouldn't be if she started shooting at them herself.

"Raft-burners," Valtri swore bitterly, upon seeing the violence unleashed upon innocents. Absolom Station, it seemed, had as many reckless outlaws as any distant and unclaimed planetoid. "Over here!" she called, waving to the nearest bystanders, "Take cover!"
The occasional smoke bomb wasn't going to appreciably disrupt the shooting (particularly considering she didn't have any). Instead, Valtri cast her gaze across the docking bay in search of something she could shoot to unleash a cloud of billowing smoke. A fire suppression system, perhaps.
Female Human Technomancer 1
On the one hand, Valtri displayed the good sense to find cover. On the other, her attempt to break up the firefight was not the most realistic.
"CEASE FIRE!" she bellowed, "Cease, you warbling balloon-poppers! Do you want the gendarmerie down on your heads?!"
In times of crisis, those around her might discern that Valtri's vocabulary was perhaps a step or two sideways of the average.

Valtri was less sanguine about their ability to slip around behind one of the groups. Conflict, in her experience, had a tendency to spill outwards.
Was a fight about to erupt? It seemed a good enough possibility that Valtri sought out her own piece of cover to assess the developing situation from.

One young woman had to be reminded a second time to return to her seat. She'd been gazing at the station with a wistful smile, as of somebody momentarily lost in memory. "Yes, of course," she said, ambling back to her seat to await docking.
One of many travellers, practically dressed in layers which could easily be adjusted for a variety of planetary environments.

I think I should be set. Might take another pass to be sure.
Putting in my own submission, details under the profile.
Quite interested. I'm looking at reworking a new background for this character profile. Will put it up sometime soon.
Just throwing my hat into the ring for consideration. Background and such are in the profile.
Still working out what to spend the cash on and typing up the background, but otherwise the character's done. If we do wind up going with gestalt, my second class will be oracle, with the fire mystery.
