Using a strict interpretation of Hero Points, yes, you cannot use them reroll damage. However, I've sort of let my players use them for practically any dice rolls which now that I think about it have usually been checks every time. I really hope they have a boon that lets me reroll damage at some point. I'll bank the AcP for that if I can buy it!

I had some interesting fizzles in the Playtest with my wizard casting Lightning Bolt and Fireball at L5 and L10. I asked the panel at Gen Con about it and was told by both Jason and Mark not to expect to ever see Maximize as a Metamagic Feat in PF2.

He looks at Ezren. "Ezren, be sure to let us know all you can about anything else we run into. We don't want to create more of those monstrosities. This one almost killed us."

Is Valeros still Grabbed? I thought he would not have been since the closest critter is dead and the still living one is out of reach from Valeros.

If he is not Grabbed, Valeros picks up his longsword and uses two move actions to get closer to the thing. If he is Grabbed, Valeros will make attacks.

He should have made attacks last round if he was Grabbed and could Strike.

Valeros grunts in pain as the acidic constriction of the monstrosity easily penetrates his armor and burns his skin badly. He grits his teeth and makes a heroic effort to strike the creature as hard as he can before he collapses from the agony meaning if he is going down for sure next round.

Valeros realizes he is pinned by the creature and that his longsword's slashing capability will not be good. He recalls that the longsword can be used as a piercing weapon and hopes that does something.

Before he takes any action, I need to know if by being pinned he can attack without having to move. If he has to move to attack, then he has to attempt an Escape action. If he doesn't, then he will have to make a DC5 flat check to employ Double Slice as I'm sure that involves the Manipulate trait.

Valeros has a bad feeling about the extremely bad smelling narrow passage and decides the lesser horrors will probably be in the room. He backtracks and goes into it. Raising his shield, he plays the light around the room scanning it for danger.

"I really don't know that much about oozes. I hope my sword works on them. They ought to chop up real easy like, though."

He peers ahead in the room.

"Kyra, you saw the traps. Guide me through them please and I'll lead the way."

Following her advice, he makes his way through the room and into the sewers, sword and shield at the ready.

Valeros wrinkles up his nose. "That smells worse than Amiri's clothes any day! Why does it smell so bad down there?" Valeros draws his sword and tightens the straps holding his shield to his arm.

"Who knows what kind of creatures we'll run into down there. Hopefully, my sword will be enough to cut them up." He sighs. "I don't suppose you want to cast some light on my shield, Ezron? It's a bit dark down there."

Valeros looks for a way down into the darkness below.

Valeros looks over the facade of the building and remarks upon seeing the brand new lock, "Why would a brand new lock be on a deserted and ransacked building? I mean, someone could just go through the broken windows. I think we need to do some searching as we explore this place."

Valeros wanders about asking likely suspects if they have any information about the Ohrlavis. He uses his Diplomacy skill at first, but switches to Intimidation if he doesn't find much useful information.

Valeros waves Amiri into one of the bars for a drink. After their drinks arrive, he speaks.

"We need to find these Ohrlavis siblings. They have been trying to sell some Pathfinder Society works on the Open Road Pact. Also, they seem to be alchemists. Weren't some of the things back in the library about alchemist stuff? It's never been my interest, but I try to keep my ears open about the oddball stuff. You never know when you'll run into some crazy stuff out there."

He downs his mug of ale and waves his hand.

"I have a feeling we need to find the others and figure out our next move. That or ask about these Ohrlavis a bit in the area. Actually, now that I think about it, let's ask about these Ohrlavis first, and then go find the others. I want some definitive answers first. This Pact thing is really interesting. It's never been mentioned in the history of the Pathfinder Society. Imagine if we were the first ones to discover this pact of the Society's founders. We might even get our own Pathfinder Chronicle!"

He stands up and waits for Amiri to do the same before heading for the door.

I would like to see if we can find some more about the Ohrlavis. If we can't we can head back to find the others. Oh, and Valeros will try to find a jerked chicken vendor for a quick bite.

Valeros sheathes his sword and looks his shield over for damage. Finding none, he then looks at the stone shards lying about the area. "Somehow, I do not think these statues animated on their own. Someone or something must have enchanted them and sent them to attack us. Why?"

He looks at Ezren questioningly.

A crit hit means the damage roll of the weapon plus any damage modifiers except those triggered by a critical hit like extra damage from the fatal weapon trait is doubled. Any additional damage is added to the doubled damage unless specifically stated in the rules concerning that type of damage. So in this case you rolled a natural 20 which is a critical hit which increases the hit by one step to a critical hit for calculating damage. You roll the 1d8 and add your spellcasting ability modifier, then double the damage.
